Freaks (1932)
Powerful and profound; a movie that I will NEVER forget.
Powerful and profound; a movie that I will NEVER forget. The writer was telling a story (the people in 1932 apparently didn't get it!) that side-show "freaks" are very human, too. In society, they would likely have been ostracized and been very lonely, but in the side-show environment, they had the companionship and comfort of each other. Together, they were like one big family--a family who looked out for and fiercely defended one another. It also taught that evil and horrible deeds can result in evil and horrible payback. The ending shocked me; quite the surprise. Well worth seeing.
The Unknown (1927)
Interesting plot; powerful acting.
Intriguing story; lots of turns to the plot; movie definitely held your interest and kept you wondering what would happen next.
Compelling and powerful acting by all characters, especially Chaney, who conveyed such emotion in his face, particularly in the scene where he's just returned from the surgery where he willingly allowed his arms to be amputated, only to find out that his love obsession planned to marry another--one with arms.
Where Are My Children? (1916)
Surpassed my expectations; very powerful and will never forget it.
I saw this silent movie late last evening on Turner Classic Movies. It surpassed my expectations (especially being that there was no sound and that it was made in 1916!); I could not take my eyes away. The interesting concept of "the place where unborn children are" was very powerful. The emotions portrayed in this movie very very strong; excellent acting by all. It is a movie that I will never forget, am still thinking about it today-it was that moving!
