Mary's Incredible Dream (1976 TV Movie)
7/10
Bizarre, yes, but I liked it
18 August 2005
I remember watching this on TV when I was in high school. I thought it was very strange, but I also liked it very much. In fact, there are images and moments from it that still haunt my thoughts today. Especially a dance number in which Mary and several other women were wearing sexy Nazi SS-style outfits. Very hot! When the video for Golden Earring's "Bullet to the Bone" came out years later, the women dancing in it reminded me of this TV special.

At the time, I did not realize that MTM had a background as a dancer, and this special really broadened my appreciation for her talents.

I wish I could see it again. If it ever became available on DVD or VHS, I'd buy it without hesitation.

Deadwood (2004–2006)
Best drama series on television
14 June 2004
This amazing series is the best drama series on television. The writing is great, the acting is uniformly outstanding, and the setting gives a pretty good feeling for what life was probably like in that era.

There are some historical inaccuracies, and some changes have been made with regards to actual events, but these are forgivable given the resulting quality of the series.

I'm sure that some are shocked by the language and nudity -- this is not your typical Western -- but considering the setting and subject matter, for me they lend authenticity to the show. Maybe people didn't really talk like that in that time period, but it would not be surprising if they did. And since two of the main locations in the series are brothels, well, nudity is to be expected.
