The World Is Not Enough (2000)
Bond is back!
Sometimes, in a tricky situation, I ask myself "What would Bond do?" Apart from the fact it has resulted in me getting slapped by lots of women, and a lot of broken bones, it been quite succesful. Anyway, on with the review.
After the downright AWFUL "Tomorrow Never Dies" game for the PSX, I wasn't particularly looking forward to the next installment. But I can safely say it beats TND in almost every way! This game returns to the first-person format of Goldeneye, after TND failed miserabely with a third-person view, and it works perfectly. It actually makes you feel like you're in the shoes of the great man himself. There's also plenty of guns, gadgets and beautiful women to play with, as well as lots of cutscenes from the movie, which blend in really well. The graphics are some of the best I have seen on any Playstation game as well. But now I must be the villian and point out the games bad aspects. The main problem is that it tries too hard to be a game that it's not. A classic example of this is the fifth level "Night Watch" where you must slip around Electra King's mansion in the small hours bugging telephones and tracing evidence. There's no real problem with that, except that the game tells you to be sneaky and use stealth on your enemies (which you can't kill) but this is a first person-shooter, not Metal Gear Solid!!!!!!! You can't BE sneaky, the game doesn't allow for it. It a shoot-em-up, plain and simple. Don't listen when the game tells you to be sneaky, just run out with your guns blazing and you'll still get through. A few other little gripes I have is that it's very awkward changing weapons, which should be quick and easy in this type of game. You can't re-enact that classic boat chase on the Thames (a real disappointment) and there's still no multiplayer, which could have worked well. Plus it could still be slightly longer. But despite these faults, the good points outweigh them. It's no Goldeneye, but an enjoyable enough shooter which is definetly worth buying even if your not a big follower of the guy who never has a problem with the women (so why aren't I as good as him.........)
+ Well Presented + Excellent graphics + A good range of weapons and gadgets to play with + It's Bond!
- Still not long enough - Tries too hard to be something it's not - No multiplayer!
Overall: 7 out of 10 (This was a review of the Playstation version)
Halloween (1978)
THE horror movie
Halloween is a classic horror movie. The story starts back on Halloween night, 1963 in Haddonfield, Illinois. There, a small six year old child by the name of Michael Myers brutally murders his fifteen year old sister for a then unknown reason. He is then locked up in a maximum security prison for fifteen years. We then cut forward to October 30th 1978, when Michael's doctor Sam Loomis is driving with a young assistant nurse to the prison where Michael is being held to pick him up and take him to court for his trial. But Michael escapes and makes his way towards his hometown of Haddonfield to go after his other sister Laurie Strode (played brilliantly by Jamie Lee Curtis). He then stalks Laurie and her friends throughout the day and as soon as night falls, the horror begins. He brutally murders three of Laurie's friends and a guy called Bob before going after his sister. This is the night HE came home. I won't say anymore so that I don't spoil the surprise for people who have not seen it, but this is one of the greatest movies of all time. It's not at all gory, but it's ability to shock hasen't worn down even after all these years. It will scare you out your wits, especially watching in the dark. Halloween has had countless sequels, but none of them even come close too the first film. I have seen this film many times, but it still scares me every time I watch it. A movie that no fan of horror should be without. Buy it today! You won't be disappointed! 10/10
