A fantastic movie
8 August 2006
How someone can NOT like this film is beyond me. The emotions the lead character goes through feel completely genuine. This is one of the best movies about dying that I've seen. The lead actor is awesome, and the emotions and physical transformation he goes through are very realistic. This movie was out for about 2 weeks here in California and then it disappeared. Maybe it's too depressing. I don't know. It will make you think though, and occasionally, it will make you laugh, because when you know you have nothing to lose, you speak your mind, as the lead character does.

A great film.

All Politics Aside, This Is An Excellent Film!
24 December 2005
All politics aside, this is an excellent film on every level. The story (mostly true events) is gripping, the acting is excellent, especially Eric Bana, and the cinematography is awesome. The time period the film takes place in is recreated meticulously. When the film started I was trying to analyze it as much as possible, shot by shot, but as it went on, I was sucked in, and forgot I was watching a movie. The scenes of violence are haunting, making you feel like you're watching a documentary. The Munich airport massacre, and the female assassin's comeuppance are especially eery. Spielberg gets political... and he does it well. This is his best work since Schindler and Private Ryan. Bravo.

Simply The Best Comic Book Adaptation Ever
14 July 2005
Being a fan of Nolan's previous work, I went into this with high expectations, and yet somehow, my expectations were surpassed. My congratulations to the entire cast and crew for making such a phenomenal film.

It all begins with the story. Nolan and Goyer didn't just adapt from the comic book, they re- imagined and re-invented Batman and his world while staying true to it. I might even say what they did was in some ways better than the comic book. Things in the comic book that would probably seem preposterous in a live action film are brought to life in an intelligent way, like the reason for the costume, and the reason for the villains and their costumes. I won't go too much into the story, because I think it's best for people to go into this film knowing as little as possible.

Christian Bale IS Bruce Wayne, and IS Batman. It will be hard to ever see someone else play the role. The look on his face when Joe Chill walks out of the courtroom... That demonic voice he gives Batman... The way he tries to hide his pain when he's told that "the apple has fallen far from the tree"... an incredible performance. The rest of the cast is fantastic too, with Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman dishing out some great humor.

And the film looks great. Gotham actually looks like a real city (with nods to Blade Runner), the lighting is nice and contrasty, and Batman is believable as a flesh and blood character. Even the flying scenes are handled nicely. It's hard to talk about this film without giving things away. If you haven't seen it, please see do. You won't be disappointed. I'd like to thank Warner Brothers for letting an intelligent and talented filmmaker make this film without much interference. Please make more like this one.

Phenomenal.
29 March 2002
In my humble opinion, "Blackhawk Down" was the best film of 2001. I'm surprised that Bruckheimer didn't do more of an Oscar campaign with this film, as it's one of the best films he's ever produced. ALL POLITICS ASIDE, this was one of the most realistic and gut-wrenching war films ever made. It simply makes you never want to go to war. If you know anything about filmmaking, then you know what it takes to helm a film of this scope and to get it right. Ridley Scott should be very proud.

A plot like a strainer. Plain Bad.
15 January 2001
A film with a bad script, bad directing, bad casting, bad editing, and some ridiculous scenes. Don't waste your time with this one, all those who contributed to it, have done better work elsewhere.

Grand Prix (1966)

Absolutely the best film about car racing ever made.
5 January 2001
Grand Prix is an awesome film about a season in the life of a handful of Formula One Racers. The best thing about it is its authenticiy. Real locations, real races, real racers, and real speed. A lot of this film was actually shot at 150mph! James Garner and Yves Montand actually drove their own race cars during the filming, and were at speed with all the stunt drivers. The scale of this film is enormous. As big, if not bigger of an undertaking than Titanic. One of Frankenheimer's best films. I'm surprised it's not talked about more. You MUST see it widescreen. No pan and scan
