Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
The Ending!!!💩💩💩💩
I was actually enjoying this film until the last 20 mins when Sally Hardesty arrived into town to confront Leatherface. Up until then I appreciated the new social media age angle and the over the top gore. I can turn a blind up until a point on credibility in horror films but the final act is so preposterous and downright stupid that it completely destroys the film. Honestly, who actually came up with this and thought it was a good idea. What a terrible waste for poor old Sally as the idea was initially a great one (although borrowing heavily from the resurgence of Jamie Lee Curtis in the new Halloween films).
Army of the Dead (2021)
Great fun
What a wonderful night out! Best zombie film in years. Great stuff Zac.
Sharp Objects (2018)
So Much Promise
A great show with wonderful performances most notably Amy Adams let down by an unrealistic and deeply unsatisfying final episode. Suddenly an 8/10 is now a 5/10 and makes me wonder why I bothered.
The Bounty (1984)
Masterpiece
What an amazing film. Terrific performances by all involved, a mesmerising soundtrack by Vangelis and an incredible truth based tale. Well worth checking out and vastly underrated.
Apostle (2018)
Disappointing
The two main problems with this film are the premise which has been done much better in other films (most notably The Wicker man) and secondly the awful performance from the lead actor Dan Stevens. From the very start his frowning, stand offish and dodgy vibe make him stand out a mile in this cult and he would of been discovered straight away by someone as shrewd as Michael Sheens character. Realism straight out the window. This over the top acting is at odds with all of the other actors who turn in measured, solid performances. Such a disappointment from an otherwise talented director.
Joker (2019)
Profound. True to the core.
The worst part of having a mental illness is people expecting you to behave as if you don't. Wow. What a truthful statement. The reason this film is so controversial is the fact that the general public dosent like a mirror being held up to the minorities who share the bus with them, who work with them and who walk by them in the street unnoticed. Embrace those around you who struggle with the everyday and remember to include them. We are all worth something.
The Beach Bum (2019)
Vacuous Dribble
Not even a trace of a logical script to be found. What a vanity, self indulgent piece for all involved. We have all been made with this one.
The Last Outlaw (1980)
The defining Tale
Forget all other reincarnations of Ned Kelly's story, this is the real deal. Matter of fact, truthful with great performances and written by the definitive expert on the subject, Ian Jones. Deserves a lot more credit. Highly recommended.
