Campioana (1990)
Feel good movie.. Show your kid..
This is yet another sport movie. That's a compliment.
Two small town girls in Romania aspire to get into and succeed in a top gymnastics school. After a lot of struggle, they win a competition in the end. That's the story.
I never tire of this theme. You can never tire of a theme whose keywords are struggle, hardwork, success, innocence, mentorship, friendship and so on. These are exactly the kind of stories i'd love to show my kid.
Another point is that these kind of movies should have only one kind of ending. The one where human spirit alone triumphs. Not the most skilled or the most talented or the most intelligent, but the one who exemplifies the best quality of mankind-struggle. This film shows that hope and perseverance win. In the real world it isn't always like that, but kids need to know that there is always hope.
Some call it corny, but if The Godfather(where a socially enabled psycho is the hero) is an example of a 'original' film, i'd gladly watch corny movies for the rest of my life.
The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising (2007)
What a terrible movie..
So, I was bored one day, was flipping channels, and I came across this movie. The opening camera shots of England suburbia were, to my jaded eyes, stunning. So I stuck with the movie. And then Amelia Warner slow-motioned in. I was glued to the screen. The bus scene got over. I was feverish. Amelia Warner was so stunning. I removed the batteries of my remote and hid them. That was how I lost my happiness.
The Good: the cute little sibling, Amelia Warner, camera work, and the sparse visual effects.
The Bad: The old ones' crap acting. The lady kept trying to look under her spectacles. Got irritating.
The Ugly: Corniest dialogue in any movie, EVER. The Chosen One was specially chosen for his lack of acting skills. He just doesn't understand dialogue delivery or expressions. And the scene where he tries to charm Amelia by levitating the fork.. Phu.. The only time in her career where Amelia looks graceless. And it's not her fault.
Ultimate error: If I had Amelia Warner in my cast, i would use her in every second frame.
The Bourne Identity Crisis (2003)
No brains
Whoever directed this movie hasn't got an ounce of creativity. You think parodying a movie is smart and highly creative, yeah? For a few silly laughs, you make fun of a good movie and get appreciated by some immature characters on the way. Wait until you direct an original movie(if you can)and see how it feels when someone parodies it.
I mean, what's wrong with the Bourne movies? If you don't like serious thrillers, you should watch insipid, tasteless comedies like American Pie. Hell, i just got sick of watching all those a jokes. Why don't someone parody such movies?
I cant find any character fault with Bourne. He's not like James Bond. So whoever parodies can better attend a creativity course or two.
