Funny yet serious Tom
22 June 2004
This was a good movie. Tom was funny yet serious, and oh so enjoyable. The accent made you forget he was Tom Hanks, and he became Victor. The ensemble cast work wonderfully together. Catherine was beautiful, but her character was a wimp. This was the only disappointing part in the movie. I would give it 5 out of 5 stars, and look forward to seeing it again. I am glad to see this as it is a movie I can recommend to others. This movie is a romantic comedy, but also just a comedy. I think young and old, man or woman will enjoy it. Lots of laughs in the first half, and then the interaction between all the characters builds (especially between Zoe and Paul) to a nice finish. Go see, enjoy!

Language a TURN-OFF
29 March 2004
I knew that this movie would have language that would not be acceptable to many people being a Coen Brothers movie. I did not expect that every other word out of Wayans or Simmons mouth would begin with "F", "B", or "N". I was embarassed and upset by the foul language. Hanks performed well as the eccentric character, full of himself. Ms. Hall steals the movie, but I think is much too strong for the "little old lady" she is supposed to be. I love the music track, but it is destroyed by what is said by Wayans. I was disappointed and did not have a good feeling upon leaving. I know it is R rated, but it still went too far. Maybe the DVD will be edited or it may be the first Hank's I won't buy!!

Superb

A great movie with very little dialog because the major actors are so good that facial and body language relays the torment of the wounded souls and the satisfaction of the evil ones. The child is well played against the stars he will one day join in acting history. 5 stars!

Old-west Scrooge
7 January 2002
This was a very good re-telling of the "Christmas Carol" story. I really liked the slight changes in the end and think others will as well if, like me, they take every opportunity to watch Scrooge! Take a chance on this one and live a little.

A star in the making
27 September 2001
In this movie, Tom Hanks shows what he will go on to be as he matures in his craft. As he matures as a loving son, you can watch his eyes to learn what he is going through and becoming. He shows that the star quality and work ethic existed long before most people recognized him for what he is: a WONDERFUL, FULFILLING ACTOR. I did not like many of his early movies until, after falling in love with him in The Green Mile, I went back and watched them with open eyes. This movie gives glimpses of what is to come. Thank you, Tom Hanks, for being such a giving actor.
