A Christmas Reunion (1994)
The title is not quite appropriate
a Christmas Reunion is a treasure in my video collection. A story of two parallel lives in the past, the middle generation has passed away and there's no connection, between paternal grandfather and grandson.
Both stories contains a marriages which were contrary to the families involved. In the first the parents died in a car accident. In the other the father died in the war, and the mother when the child was born.
Almost half the cast has made this movie only yet the result is extraordinary. Being a romantic I had hoped for a total reunion, as the title imply, but this ending with its promise of something better, is even better. This film is a story for a pass-time, but can also give something to reflect about.
Of course it is strongly recommended to all.
Screen Two: Close Relations (1990)
Love between brother and sister who didn't grow up together
This is a story about love between a brother and a sister who meet for the first time at their father's funeral. They didn't even knew about the other's existence until then. He is fifteen years her senior and went to sea, as their mother got pregnant with her. This is the story about their hardships due to the reaction of the people around them. In the end they got their right to live together, as they both get sterilized. Thrilling story about incest or not, when they, as said before, did not know about the other. The story is told in a flowing manner and the questions will still linger in your mind when the movie has ended.
Ådalen 31 (1969)
Definitely not a waste of time!
Dramatized story about strikers, black-foots, saw-mill-owners and the military in a small Swedish town in 1931. The military was sent in to stop the strikers that were marching towards one of the mills. Due to inexperience and nervousness in the commanding officer, the order to fire was given and five people were killed. From then on Swedish military has been forbidden to act against civilians, until this summer, when a new law was passed in Swedish parliament. This law permits the police to ask the military for help in terror-like situations, with commanding chief of police as supreme commander. The film is a fairly true revue of what happened that day in 1931.
