Cop Car (2015)
10/10 for acting, script, storytelling, cinematography...
What a feat to create such drama and depth from such a small cast, seemingly simple story and virtually just one location. A study in what good filmmaking can achieve.
The wide open landscapes the characters inhabit contrast with the Small lives they come from. The innocence of small-town childhood stumbles upon a pit of small-town evil.
Amazing performances from children and adults.
Don't understand how this film is so underrated on IMDb . Hopefully time will prove this to be a lasting classic. Maybe those who expect cookie cutter action characters and plots from their formulaic thrillers, or believe only in disneyfied or wiseguy TV children are the doubters here.
Anyway - read no spoilers and enter the world of this movie with the openness of the kids Who wander haplessly into this story.
DreamKeeper (2003)
Fantastic epic storytelling at it's best
Totally gripping; the story weaves between ancient myths and legends and present day reality.
The characters are engaging, the acting is great, and the special effects are phenomenal.
I was reminded what special effects are really for - used right, they really bring a story to life, enhance it, engage your imagination and convey more than could be done any other way.
This film stayed with me for days. Full of depth, wisdom, action and adventure. a must see.
(I also recommend the "making of" that accompanies the movie).
Forbidden Love: The Unashamed Stories of Lesbian Lives (1992)
An important, fantastic, funny, moving, very memorable documentary.
I saw this when it was released and never forgot it, most of my friends also remember it clearly! It is a wonderful glimpse into the lives of lesbians in the 50s, in many ways different from now - the hidden=ness and secrecy, the butch femme culture - and in many ways so the same - who was going out with who, when, how they fell in love, broke up, wove their lives and made family of their friendships.
Highly recommend it as an uplifting piece of Lesbian History, and a vision of what we younger lesbians may look like as we age. DELIGHTFUL!
