Agneepath (2012)
Disappointing!
I really don't know what Karan Johar was thinking before making this one. Being remake of a classic, this film was already under pressure. I felt that some of the characters were overwritten & some of those shouldn't have been there to begin with. Hrithik Roshan was OK! The director could've used Sanjay Dutt better, Priyanka Chopra has done another one (after Don 2) where she didn't have much to do. The film would've been much better off without her character. Katrina Kaif tried hard but she just wasn't vulgar enough for the solo song. Aggressive pelvic movements alone don't make a hit item number. And lastly, Rishi Kapoor is simply awesome in this movie. His portrayal of a Mumbai smuggler was very convincing. He should get a Filmfare Nomination for this role.
If you have songs in the film, they should be good to hum! In this film I couldn't find even a single good song which whenever appeared, only hampered the storyline. In the end, I just cannot ridicule this movie enough which, at best, can be considered as an attempted insult to the original. Agneepath, the original, is like a cherished piece of furniture and this one is just a pile of 'saw dust' in front of it.
Sarkar Raj (2008)
Falls short of Greatness
Though i never really had much expectation from this movie, it really delivered at some levels. The Background Score, narration, ambiance, and a strong storyline. This movie continues with the journey of Shankar Nagre to becoming a full fledged Godfather (aka Sarkar of Maharashtra,India). The first half of the movie dwells into the deep rooted politics and the problems that it brought along for the Nagre family, giving a feeling that it could proliferate into something massive. Unfortunately, the plot starts to cool down from thereon and does not turn into the same exhilarating second half that the first one had. Direction from Ram Gopal Varma is good in this movie which should be a relief for his fans as his last few attempts did not go down too well with the critics and casual moviegoers alike. Overall, i would say that Sarkar Raj has everything a good movie should have, but just falls short of becoming that extra special. I give it a weak 7 / 10.
