Weekends (2017)
Genius, oscar nomination well deserved
This was an unpretentious, beautifully constructed short film with so much descriptive visual language that any spoken word would have been overkill.
I was transported to a time and place and feeling that was both breathtaking and heartbreaking.
Investors, influencers, invisible hands, whomever's reading this, please give this person more money to make art, it'll make the world a better place.
Spoiler: I cried like a toddler with a severely skinned knee at the end.
100%: Julian Edelman (2019)
Weak Try for Novice Film Makers
Firstly, I'm a Patriots fan and a huge Julian Edelman fan born and raised in New England.
Knowing the Edelman story was as incredible as it is, an undersized player making it in the league and eventually getting super bowl MVP, I thought I was in for a treat. Spoiler: it sucks, I was bored within 10 minutes.
I'm a huge fan of Smoothietyme and Burgertyme, and all the social media stuff, and I love documentaries, so this doc seemed like a slam dunk.
Unfortunately, as I began watching my mood turned from gleeful to extremely disappointed. How could the writers, producers and director blow such a potentially straightforward, uplifting, and inspiring story?
Julian should find someone else to tell his story, whomever made this really muffed it up.
Whoever gave this a good review, please tell me why, I struggled to even get through the thing it was so boring.
If I were to choose a high point, Frank Edelman seems like a hell of a guy, would have loved to learn more about him.
Hope Julian's next movie venture isn't such a bust. Thanks for reading.
