The Ark (2023)
Holding Out Hope (And It's Only Been One Episode)
Having only seen the first episode and looking forward to watching more, while not an amazing pilot, I am interested in seeing where it is going. For me, a good sci fi show needs to have compelling speculative science and be driven by the characters, human or otherwise, which this certainly does. The premise is nothing groundbreaking, but still compelling (for fans of Movies like the Martian or shows like The 100 it's fun to add a group dynamic to struggles of survival in space). The characters are well cast and have the potential for some fun chemistry, it's always hard to tell in just a first episode, but I look forward to the cast playing off each other more as the plot develops. The CGI, while not the quality of for instance a show like The Expanse is actually pretty decent and innovative, which is really all you need for, there's always going to be a certain level of suspension of disbelief, especially with the budget of a tv show (if you want beautiful Science Fiction CGI I would give this show a pass and either go for a movie or try out Apple TV's Foundation). Overall, it's only been one episode, and I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that the show develops in the next few episodes :)
Leverage: Redemption: The Rollin' on the River Job (2021)
Don't Call It a Come Back
Another phenomenal episode of the Leverage Revival and the most incredible thing is the ability to keep the hopeful tone of the original show within an accurate portrayal of the context of today. New character Breanna in particular shines while finding her spot in our rag tag crew this episode
- balancing the thin line between relatability and realism with big shoes to fill.
Leverage: Redemption (2021)
Still Stealing the Show!
This is how you do a revival! Perfect for original and new fans alike, a perfect welcome and welcome back! The characters have continued to grow since the previous seasons while still being the thieves we know and love!
The Old Guard (2020)
Fun Summer Action-Fantasy Film With Heart
The Old Guard did a great job mixing Action and Fantasy in a modern setting, quality writing (or at least some fun dialogue in the midst of a decent amount of gore), and a delightful ensemble cast. Myself and my entire family absolutely loved this movie and would definitely recommend it to anyone with some time on their hands and an interest in an enjoyable Action-Fantasy film!
Roswell, New Mexico: Sex and Candy (2020)
98% Amazing, 2% WHAT!!!
Phenomenal episode that further developed both relationships and character arcs. The episode kept me on the edge of my seat and felt far longer than its hour run time. Immensely pleased at this furthering of the plot and only more excited to see what's happening next week!
Pandora: Shelter from the Storm (2019)
The first fun, family friendly Sci fi show on TV in far too long
This first episode of the CW's Pandora provides a compelling introduction to a fun, family friendly new science fiction show. While certainly not groundbreaking, the newly introduced protagonist and main cast are likable, the graphics and CGI are visually appealing, the setting is somewhat novel, and the suspenseful premise is well established. I have high hopes for the future episodes of the CW's first foray into "hard" science fiction! If you have the time and enjoy the CW's other programming, science fiction, or fun tv shows I would definitely suggest giving this a watch!
