The Sopranos: University (2001)
This episode hits different
I'm not sure what else to say about this episode that hasn't already been echoed by the others who posted but this episode actually gave me an uneasy feeling after viewing.
The uneasy feeling it gives, to me atleast, is due to the young 20 year old stripper. Her performance is what really makes this episode hard to watch but at the same time hard not to. She's grounded and real. You see her flaws but you also see her hope.
It's hard to put in words but this may be one of the best episodes of this show I've seen, it's shows so much raw emotion from start to end and per usual, perfectly edited, great score and amazing writing couple with amazing acting.
Very few episodes of any show have left me more with a pit in my stomach than this one after viewing. I'm starting to see why this is often referred to as the best tv show ever made.
Halo (2022)
It's ok
As someone who has played all the games since they first came out this show is very loosely based on the video games.
This Kwan chick should have never been introduced. Her storyline is pointless and boring, people came for Master Chief and he takes a backseat in a few episodes of his own show.
He should have never been without his helmet. The Mandalorian has shown that you do not need to see the leads face every 5 minutes to still have an amazing show. This was a huge oversight.
I gave this a 6/10 because the visuals are really good and the few (very few) action scenes they have are really good. And it's cool to see the live action equivalent of all the equipment like their guns and vehicles.
My recommendation for S2, if it gets one, don't focus on secondary characters as much, show chiefs face less, and put in more covenant battles.
They have tons of source material. Use it.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
A slap in the face. We waited YEARS for this garbage.
Ever since the prequel trilogy people have been waiting and begging for Ewan to reprise his role as Obi-Wan. Well much like the new trilogy, Disney found a way to ruin it completely. It's so disappointing to wait so long for something and to have this non sensical garbage be the end result. I would've rather them not made the series and wondered "what if?" vs "WTF?!."
Obi Wan isn't even the main character in his own show! I would've been all for having him go through the ptsd for a few episodes and having conflicts pop up from being hunted and then rediscovering his Jedi vigor and getting his pep back.
Having a young Leia is just dumb, nobody wanted that, same with a young Luke, nobody cares. And yet she gets more screen time than Ewan.
Reva is a terribly written character and whatever the chicks name who plays her has zero acting chops. Her lines come off as dull and boring. And yet she seems to be the MAIN character.
The writing feels like season 8 of Game of Thrones, lazy. So many plotholes and nonsensical moments. Also we are mid season and barely anything has happened.
I very so sorry for Ewan because I really like his movies and him as an actor and person are both great. Disney did him dirty with this show and I for one will never forgive them.
The only reason I gave this show a 4 instead of 1 is because the visuals are good, and even though every second of this show sucks, seeing Ewan as Obi does make my little nerd heart a little warm.
Attack of the Hollywood Clichés! (2021)
A cliche itself - The pandering Netflix original
Are you a white male? Boy do we have a show for you! This piece of garbage is so far skewed to the liberal Netflix point of view it's almost unbearable.
Continuing their tradition of White man bad, women and people of color better this isn't about movie cliches so much as it is about creating a false narrative about racism and sexism.
Don't waste your time on this.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Poor writing really sunk this show....again.
This whole season is a slow burn to an anti-climatic ending. Fans of the original show will be happy with some nostalgia but ultimately left disappointed. This mini series suffers from the same fate that Game of Thrones S7-8 suffered. Dumb/Lazy writers. Good acting and a amazing score (music) wasn't enough to save the dropped storylines, plotholes and just general laxed writing.
I won't get into any spoilers so people actually read this. Just don't get your hopes up. If you were looking for the spark Dexter proper had in S1-4 then you will be let down, hard.
Anyone giving this show a rating higher than a 6-7 is doing it purely based on what the show was and not what this show is. Heck I even gave it that high of a rating mostly because of what the show was.
Warrior Nun (2020)
Could have been so much better but still has potential.
This show reminds me ALOT of the last 2 seasons of Game of Thrones, in terms of bad/lazy writing but good acting, good cinematography, good effects and an interesting story. Idk who hired the writers for this show but they and the writers they managed to scrape from the bottom of the bucket need to go.
I was expecting more fighting nuns since you know, the title, but almost the entire first half of the show is some CW level cringe teenage angst drama.
The finale is the only episode that actually feels right for the show and then it just ends.
Something kept me drawn into this show, the acting, the gorgeous female lead, what little action there was, and curiosity as to what would happen. This show could be a banger and imo a top hit on Netflix but man they need to do some work with S2, starting with new writers.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Don't listen to these dumb 1-3 star reviewers, this movie is meant to be fun
Clearly all the top "helpful" reviewers are dumber than what they claim this movie is. This movie is meant to be fun, not over the top plot and character development, not award winning. FUN, there's so many movies that come out that take themselves too seriously this movie doesn't. This movie has blood, guts, action, zombies, funny moments. I swear people leave bad reviews just to leave bad reviews, in an attempt to be edgy and justify that they just can't sit back and enjoy a movie that you don't have to think much during, just enjoy.
Everyone on here expecting Shawshank Redemption level writing from a guy who is known for his beautiful visuals and effects.
Just watch it for yourself and don't listen to the idiots who just put bad reviews for the sake of trying to be relevant.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Watch the original and stay away from this one
Let's face it, this movie sucks. There is no tournament style setting. Boring pointless main character who isn't even in the games. Scorpion and Sub Zero costume design was bad. Acting was terrible. Even the cgi was bad. All in all this movie fell short in every aspect. The only redeeming quality was that some, not much but some, of the fight choreography was decent (first scene)
The Sinner (2017)
Lone Starr!!!
I didn't realize Bill Pullman had this kind of range, admittedly I've only seen him in Space Balls (he seems the title) and Independence Day. His ability to play this secluded, closed off, but still emotional character is amazing. He lacks the words most times to express how he feels but makes up for it in his actions and facial expressions. He plays this guarded detective very well.
Season 1 was phenomenal, it's dark, it's gritty, it's not your typical show that USA network usually puts out.
I'm almost done with Season 2, while not as good as S1, still very good.
From what I've read people think the show steadily declines with S1 being perfect, S2 being good, and S3 being not so great. I'll let you be the judge.
I can say this show is definitely worth watching and investing time in.
Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (2021)
Good for background noise, Bad for actually viewing
If you need something to play while you are doing something or just want some background noise this is a decent program.
If you want something to watch with zero distraction, stay away.
It's basically a bunch of episodes of YouTube personalities you've never heard of saying what they think may have happened, mostly for exposure and clout.
After the series ends you know no more than when you started.
All in all this is a huge waste of time and money and really just a quick cash grab for Netflix due to the pandemic and people having nothing else to watch.
Death to 2020 (2020)
Self entitled pandering preachy virtue signaling garbage
This is such a biased "film" it really sheds some light on how radically liberal Netflix has become. The whole thing is clearly far left leaning self entitled garbage.
The comedy is biased, the "actors" are biased.
Do not watch this and hopefully they won't make any more brainwashing rhetoric aimed at the left agenda.
Holy crap what a waste of money this movie was.
Ghosts of War (2020)
If you like Black Mirror you will appreciate this
You can tell by the reviews a lot of these people have never seen the Black Mirror series or anything similar. Everyone is complaining about the ending and I guarantee it's because it wasn't a happy feel good yay moment. It's not meant to be. It's meant to piss you off. This movie had a HP Lovecraft supernatural feeling to it and the whole time I was wondering if this is based off one of his books or something, that's how good it is at sucking you in and making you think what's next.
I gave it a 8. The acting was good. The writing was good. The ending may not be what you expected or even hope for, but it too, was good.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
DC ruins another one
In all the ways you can think of, this movie is bad. The action choreography is slow, and underwhelming. The plot is dumb. The only and I mean only thing that made this watchable are the acting chops of Pedro Pascal and Chris Pine.
I don't even know where to begin with how bad this was. She overuses the Lasso which she hasn't done in any movies. She can fly in this one but not in BvS or Justice League. Oh she can turn things invisible now too even though this took place before the other movies.
Just a mess of bad things that have become the standard for live action DC.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Good premise, bad execution
If this movie would've been entirely of George Clooney pushing through his terminal illness to save the little girl this would've been a 7-8 star movie. However it is not and they are trying to do too much. Past, present, visions of a fake daughter. Not great direction. You start the movie following solely Clooney and if you watched The American, this guy can be in a movie literally doing nothing and it hooks you. So the first half of this movie is great, you're rooting for him to save the girl and get her to the base and get her picked up. But then the story shifts towards the people in space and from there frankly the movie just sucks. I'm sure the book it's based on did a much better job of intertwining the stories and whatnot but the second half of this movie was a mess and then it ends and you feel cheated.
Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling (2019)
Netflix force feeding Virtue signaling once again
The movie was ok until Netflix does what it usually does and push this agenda of accept everything everyone believes and thinks otherwise you are wrong. Basically called out all the fans for watching this show out of nostalgia. Saying hey don't be nostalgic and change is good while creating a movie that was only wanted because of nostalgia. So sick of this stuff being crammed down our throats.
Batman: Death in the Family (2020)
Recap of the Red Hood animated movie
Don't waste your time and money on this. The Death in the Family portion is a 30 minute recap of Under The Red Hood. The other short films aren't worth it. Just save your money and either rent or buy Under The Red Hood. Really disappointed I bought this before even looking into it. Usually DC is on point with their animated movies. This is not one of them.
My Spy (2020)
Fun and Funny
I hate that people are being critical of this movie for the sake of being critical or edgy. This is a classic tough guy meets kid movie. Will it win any awards? Probably not. Will it be a lot of laughs for your kids? Yes. Will you as an adult laugh? Yes. There is a perfect blend of funny for kids and funny for grown ups. My kid and I both watched and loved this movie. It's a modern Pacifier and even more modern Mr. Nanny. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants just a lighthearted, fun movie.
