Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
This just makes me sad...
Boring, uninspired, contrived piece of trash. What makes me most sad is the thought that Netflix probably canceled something I enjoy to fund this garbage.
Is Snyder even capable of original thought? I knew going into this that it'd be bad, I mean, Snyder's track record isn't great. But this is on another level. Bad script, bad acting, boring pace. In typical Snyder fashion, he relied on visuals so much he forgot to give it substance.
The movie bounces from recruit to recruit with little to no back story. It's as if he just expected viewers to care about who these people are but forgot to give us any reason to. But it's ok, because they look cool.
Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 (2020)
Frustratingly annoying...
I'll start off by saying, I LOVE everything Ghost in the Shell, up to this point... Even the 2017 movie was kind of alright in its own way. But this was frustrating. I'll get to why in a second.
Firstly, I love the character design and think Ilya did a fantastic job. The characters all look great but I really wish they had stayed away from the CG though. I don't hate CG, I just don't think they did that great of a job here... The look is kind of ok, but then the motion and facial expressions are meh... kind of reminds me of the old Reboot cartoon which was over 20 years ago... Is this really as good as it could have been?
But what was most frustrating though was that it takes half the episodes to actually get to something worth watching. It finally starts to deliver what seems like an interesting story and then just as it peaks, times up. That's 12 episodes done... Ok sure, there'll be another season, which is awesome. I get more GitS. But this story should have been told properly and finished so the next season could be something new rather than just finishing up from this season.
I want Netflix to release an American/Japanese co-production of a live action GitS, similar in style to Altered Carbon... Now that'd be crazy.
Enter the Anime (2019)
worthless...
This was annoying to watch. They chose someone who knows nothing about anime, to direct a film about anime.... fine... But she kept going on about how confused she was about everything. Even after conducting interviews with people, it would switch back to her voice over and how she's still no better off than she was before... completely disrespecting the interviewee and whatever insight they may have offered. Not to mention, every anime talked about was a Netflix anime... so the whole thing is just a sad attempt to draw attention to its own content... Maybe she was just too lazy to go out and speak to anyone that wasn't on the list she was given by Netflix...
