Just plain Fun!
22 April 2024
Completely unfamiliar with the video game, have followed Wade's career however, and as usual he delivers carrying the heart and soul of the series.

No spoilers here.

Good old fashioned classic tale, sorta Good vs. Evil, but who actually are the good guys or the bad guys?

The authors do a great job engaging their politics within the scenery set designs and experiences of the individual characters as opposed to preaching and ramming silliness down the viewers throats.

They present a most unforgiving world, which removes a lot of modern silly wokeness and pronouns when survival is the base necessity... They show that stuff gets tossed to the wayside... in season 1 anyhow.. This Allows the viewer to make up their own inferences and ideas as the story kinda S L O W L Y unfolds.

Yes, I get it... ya'll be watchin' and flippin' through your phones... but the story eventually begins to move along and percolate nicely, into a good old mystery...

Gorgeous set designs and use of classic music in the first few episodes to beautifully exemplify the disparity of their past vs. The future we and they are presented with... The entire production is beautifully stylized, the film, the costumes, the plot oh MY!

Every detail in their world is superbly presented which makes the world presented believable!

Every actor do their characters justice.. all skilled, from bit players to scene stealers, they give their characters depth and we can feel their desperation in such an unforgiving world.

Ate season one UP like popcorn!!

Looking forward to an engrossing story line, so sit back, open your mind and get carried away into a fun filled action packed distopia!

Rod Sterling would be proud!

A movie for Psych 101 class
9 April 2024
What was the purpose of this movie?

Certain people need to dress in drag to step up... Adam did it his way, exposing how cruel powerful men can be... One forced themself through this tale to understand how truly sad it is. Many are not as fortunate as Jill. Their innocence although annoying can be easily devoured and silenced by a greedy brother who can have her sacrificed and shut up for good, through submission.

Adam seems almost too careful in his slow build up in exposing powerful predators.... He seems to have tried to create a true to life morality tale based on the creepy underbelly of most high powered industries ... well... Many who live in the "real world" have seen/ experienced many a creepy greedy brother offer up their innocent sisters/ daughters/ wives in Sacrificial fashion when pressed for that extra dollar or bump up in stature for greedy powerful overlords.

Being naive at any age in the wrong place , one can be unknowingly offered up in a creepy awkward frightening position such as Jill. Most of us have been there in one way or another... Many don't need this reminder or morality tale.

This is a classic unspoken tale in which people who have survived through it do not share, if they get away unscathed.

Sandler exposes what happens in every industry.. tio clumsily... predators/prey... He shows hypocrisy is alive, what happens every day if one is fortunate to not have family.

Its a sad story, no one wants to re-live if they've ever experienced.

One wonders how many are fortunate enough for this 'happy ending'.

No thanks.

Why the Hate?
8 April 2024
Who ARE these movie critics? Why the hate? Such an hilarious play on sex workers with a great excuse for cadtvand crew to hit Amsterdam. Great production values, set designs, costumes and soundtrack. Never over the top but played with fun and all cast exudes joy with tongue in cheek attitudes.

No one ever expected to be taken seriously about 'Man -whoring" and the award sets are hilariously creative.

If you can laugh at these jokes.. well.

I don't even recall swearing in the flick.

This production demonstrates one dan be creative, and funny without mega-vulgarity...

You wanna come home and chill... Let the night go by without media slamming you on the head about this or that. Escape with Rod and his crew to Amsterdam.. Lit or not its just escapism and college guys humor before Porn turned many into... well... Its just fun.

Silly Fun...
8 April 2024
Watched without any expectations... Thus a nice surprise... Silly old school sophomoric male humor. Not as vulgar as the mid 2,000's snd forward.

-An average decent hearted looser get involved in goofy sex situation and the rest follows.

Not an award winner, but is a good rollicking time with old school make college humor, situations. Cast and crew seems to have a good time, no one acts over the top, tight editing, decent dialogue, set design and a good Saturday afternoon- time killer or if bored to death one evening.

No severe darkness, or dark subliminal messages, no political commentary... fun soundtrack...just goofball fun.

Well lit, lighthearted lampoon.

You want darkness, despair, not here... Straight up fantasy even granny will scoff at but still secretly chuckle to.

A good afternoon classic.

Sandler and his crew kept this from grossness and vulgarity.

Comedic Genius
7 April 2024
Don't understand the poor ratings. If one is a Sherlock fan, this spoof is sheer joy. Great set designs, costumes, acting.

Spot on humor IF you are a lover of Sherlock Holmes flicks. The dialogue is well written and quite funny.

No one is expecting an Oscar winner here. Tight production, great camera work... The leads fly head first into their characters, something many don't do these days. Over the top fun, silly and tongue in cheek.

Top notch supporting cast, and cameo's you can see and feel the cast and crew having fun!

Sure its too long, byt who cares? The talent is too good... 3/4 through the leads break in to well written 'broadway style' song... and it works!

Producer Garcia always gices us great comedy...

I guve it a 7 it will last the test of time....

Good film could have been Great...
9 March 2024
Good story and production values.... it needed one more pass through the editing department, felt like forever to get to the point... The first hour, is a tad too bathed in Rembrandt- esque imagery... Cinematography was gorgeous, yet too heavy on the dark ink side. First hour was tediously slow, when Mother said from now on they will 'speak english' they did not... leaving a whole group of viewers getting lost here, literally in Rembrandt -esque extremely dark corners of New York City Slums, Offices, The Vatican and such... one could not appreciate the work that went in the the tediousness of set and costume design.

Once the painfully difficult to see grindingly slow set up moves forward the cinematic colors lightened a bit, FINALLY english was spoken consistently and Mother hit her stride.

So much to say about her, too much time wasted 'setting up the story, Left us wondering HOW did mother end up making herself a world wide success?

We were given but a glimpse of this unassuming powerhouse... The movie left us inspired as the audience cheered and whooped loudly on her comments and successes... Will give it good marks for acting, set designs, cinematography/special effects... a clunky slow start...so prepare yourself to admire the artistic efforts.

All leads and character actors did superb jobs with what they had... Men did not wear their Top Hats indoors, but I believe this was done in order to demonstrate the type of immobile stalwart characters Mother was dealing with.

Well worth a leisurely viewing overall and inspiring noteworthy subject.

Excellent writing!
4 June 2023
Oh my! Fell into this by accident and could not stop laughing! Anyone, ANYONE familiar with Elizabethan, Gothic writings will appreciate the antics which ensue. Excellent writing and directing. Where this gem came from I don't know, however the entertainment value is high as this sort of drama is usually heavy and dry.

The character development is superb, the cinematography and set design immaculate to the period. The actors are at the top of the game.

Upon initial viewing I thought the story to be a serious one reminiscent of "Moll Flanders"... very cruel etc. However once realizing it was comedy, relaxed a bit as the sight gags and use of language grew increasingly ridiculous and fun.

Am savoring each episode once discovering there is but one season.

Julia Davis does "Rebecca" proud in her writings and personification of Elizabethan era dialogue and characters.

Thanks HULU.

A Classic which Resonates well into 21st Century
27 January 2023
As many of these movies age... the historical value of these stories come in to play that much more. King Vidor does an excellent job with an excellent cast.

This story could have gotten super-sappy and preachy... Yet the way the director controls the narrative allows us to understand the intensity of purpose which drove the main character to defend his position.

If other claim the flick is a " morality tale" etc. Well... whenever lives are concerned ( as one is portraying a dedicated person) in the characters situation it is valid.

There was a time when persons took their careers, professions seriously... Vengence: this ain't. Then again... this movie is portraying life in the early 20th century. Give in, and enjoy the time travel with Mr. Vidor...

Stands the Test of Time
7 January 2023
Wow, no vulgarity, or brutal beatings... Forces to brain to focus on the dialogue and the acting. The film demonstrates the frailty of the human condition relies on compassion and sincerity. Rule by intimidation, fear and the sinister cruelty of "Groupthink" has not changed over time.

The most frightening aspect of the film is viewing this in 2023! A film made in 1940...anti-war propaganda... Some may say... however what is "Pro-War"? When is war a good thing?

When do "orders" become more important than human relationships?

In the blink of an eye... Lifetime friends become enemies, the elderly are preyed upon for believing in compassion and logic... Does love or cunning Conquer all?

Well, a bit of both perhaps... The ability to remain level headed in times of stress and physical harm... A great film... timeless too.

People will laugh at it in this day and age... but those few who have experienced such things know the sting, and the subtlety of a good movie.

Family Friendly...Easy Gentle Story...
26 November 2022
So it's not an accurate adaptation, 'Nuff said.

If you enjoy beautiful cinematography, art design, musical score and well written dialogue this foots the bill.

Gorgeous musical score combined with an original take on Mark Twains classic... this comes in as a second to Mickey Rooney's Huck.

The director is well versed and experienced in setting the tone for the film with excellent imagery the music compliments the story, never overpowers it, allowing the dialogue and acting to guide us along the Mississippi.

Gives us a taste of the old world with accurate dialects, subtle acting and cute little "ditties" of song which give us a feel of the importance of the rhythm of the world at that time.

The challenges of the period are front and center, presented in beauty and subtly.

Highly underrated classic.

Just Fun
31 October 2022
Ryan is back to square one similar to the first season of AHS. Great set designs, atmosphere, costuming and character actors. This is a story folks, a pleasant waste of time. It's based on fact, which ( in case you didn't realize) did s identified as fiction. I don't care one bit about the real events. A pleasant mature distraction, similar to old school (classic Twilight Zone) Little to no violence, character driven, good dialogue and story. Almost family friendly except the useless F-Bombs. Well done play on "appearances" and speculation, so don't expect jumps or super scares. An attempt by the Moguls themselves and criticizing consumption that falls a bit flat... but still a pleasant ride along with this family on a Sunday afternoon binge.

Why Most productions in this day and age are dragged out who knows?

This could have been a great little 1:30 minute movie, or one hour episode, but...easy enough to follow while surfing the web.

Perhaps that's why most new shows are dragged out to death and slow as spit.

Well written, well directed distraction.

Holocaust is no joke, nor a Melodrama.
14 April 2022
Friends, the subject matter was handled very well. Dr. Perl worked on her own redemption, something we all need do in this day and age.

The acting, cinematography, set design, costumes well done. In my lifetime I have lived with people who were at the "camps", heard the stories every one is compelling in its own way.

Some found redemption, some questioned why they survived well into their old age.

These stories must be shared and NOT FORGOTTEN. Yet, sadly by the overall rating this gem of a film presented, by its score, many can barely relate to the trials of complete subjugation and the lengths people go to stay alive.

This was a well done and ultimately positive movie.

Excellent Cinematography
15 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ben, Adam, Matt... Adam being the best male actor... Jodie Comer the Best overall.

These guys are not the most stellar actors other than Jodi and Adam. The dialogue is stilted, underestimates it's viewers...first the writers attempt to engage in dialogue close to the period ... and end often with the the actors yin a poor imitation of a "proper" English dialect with well written prose such as : "I'm Broke".

Too little worthwhile dialogue.. and the actors are stiff beyond belief. The dialogue isslow the violence excellent, cinematography, costumes, setting all great as well....but just go watch RASHOMAN for overall excellence in timing, delivery and story engagement. Have to give Mr. Scott Props though for a great attempt at bringing us a beautiful looking movie...along with a great attempt to catch lightening in a bottle with an attempt to remake RASHOMAN in a European setting.

Scary Stuff

When one has elderly relatives or is aging out, this movie does not seem so stupid! The actors were excellent... a bit dragged out, could have used more editing... overall the creepiness of the movie and the "New Normal" pushed this in to creep-out territory for me... could see my trustworthy elderly relatives being hijacked like this.

Who ARE you Haters? Ever watch Sci-Fi from the 1980's?
25 May 2021
OMG! This movie was such a total throwback/homage to the great sci-fi/horror flicks of the 1980's. It was a fun ride the moment we boarded the ship. Cinematography was good, sound editing good, script total take-off fun! To give This movie such a poor rating means ya'll is just too serious! Willis is hysterical as the whisky swilling dude. If you enjoy old school (1980's) sci-fi/horror this is watchable. Grab your stuff, pizza and popcorn and enjoy the ride, a good fun ride!

29 April 2021
As good as the original, supporting actors do a great job, Eddie and his crew have a great vibe going. The high rating because it moved right along, no foul language, a sit back and relax no-brainer comedy. Costume and set design was excellent, a simple fun story line whew one can tell everyone on set was indeed having a good time. Easy watch, non-political plain fun.

A simple story with simply divine easy performances.
16 April 2021
A high rating due to the excellent performances of what so believe to be Eleanor Powell's best and most natural stylings in her film choreography. The infectious music and additional spectacular dances by the Fabulous Berry Brothers and a sneak peek of Doris Day ( like where's Waldo) makes this light story sail by like a warm breeze in the winter. The Talent the character actors, the songs... Top Notch. Made in 1941 one of the last well done Musicals before the fall of the MGM system.

Interesting But......
20 February 2021
When I went to Wikipedia to research Werner Von Braun after watching the second episode, I asked myself why the authors of this series used real character names, when we discover that the REAL CHARACTERS and what they said and did in REALITY were far more INTERESTING in and of themselves?? It would have been much more Science Fiction AND reality based than this big hot mess of a Soap Opera. For this series... TRUTH is Stranger than FICTION!

With time this movie has aged well and eventually may end up a Comedy Classic. No abusive foul language, a real "Feel" for NYC in the early 2000's full of hope and promise and brightness. The cinematography is great, the supporting cast of actors give 120% well acted, edited. Sure a few clunky spots but overall... it is a fun, funny movie.

FINALLY
30 December 2020
Finally, a genuine love story after all the garbage from the mid 2000's. No major political statement or bias or activism. A beautiful story of people living their LIVES falling in love... during a chaotic time. Oh wait, most eras in the 20th Century were also tumultuous. This is what most folks who survive these times do. LIVE THEIR LIVES. A long overdue window into the life of the character Sylvie in "everyday" 1950's.

Reality CAN be overcome...
25 November 2020
I have known many people with stories like this. Why the hate? This story parallels so many Americans whose livelihoods were taken away, who are struggling to survive and those who have the fortitude to overcome. A positive tale.. and a story that repeats itself everyday... which makes the USA unique... This is AMERICA... one that can OVERCOME. I commend my friends and associates I met in college and life that overcame similar odds.

Engrossing Acting From Angela and Lawrence!
16 August 2020
Wow re-watching this film for the first time since 1993! Ms. Basset and Mr. Fishbourne/ Director, costumes, choreography... so overlooked to win no awards! Angela Basset's metamorphosis From an innocent to a woman focused on a path is amazing! The story and acting grab you the minute you start watching and one almost does NOT want the story to end. This is a MUST SEE... TCM your next movie Classic is waiting to be picked up! The movie holds fast and steady 26 years later! A true classic.

All bets are off...
5 August 2020
Thought this was going to be an enlightening movie about Curie and the hard work and difficult life she and her partner led in discovery of the elements. Instead, it was a drab poorly edited story implying the discoveries were used primarily for destruction. IF one wishes to watch an engrossing COMPELLING account... suggest "Madame Curie" with Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon (1946) to get the feel of the periodcandvthe intensity of Curie's devotion to her work. This production was poorly edited moving all over eras without allowing you to relate or understand a scientists true vocation.

Something Missing
21 June 2020
OK, so the era was maybe early 1990's but Zoey's tone was just too offensive to carry the film. Literally no softness to relate to. Working class Buffalo poorly represented, directing was good, pacing good... dialogue was spotty... up and down, too much unnecessary profanity in place of decent dialogue. It had good potential, but felt like a practice movie at best. Good that it got produced but... a good movie to waste a rainy afternoon by at best.
