Don't Look Up (2021)
Don't let critics undermine this cautionary tale!
Don't look up is a pertinent Satire for a misinformed apathetic society mindlessly consuming palatable misinformation. Many critics are oversimplifying the plot, saying its about the climate crisis. It is foremost about Misinformation and the mishandling of societal wellbeing. It is about media & social media consumption and how those who defend reason, facts, and science are treated as a pariah in favor for light hearted frivolities. It showcases many of the missteps taken during recent presidencies, a global pandemic, and the numerous climate disasters of recent years. It is a cautionary tale, reminding us that peer reviewed facts should not be dismissed & profit driven corporations do not have humanities best interest at heart. And lastly it reminds us all that we really do have a great thing going on, and like every civilization before us, we risk losing it all if we continue ignoring our codependence on our planet and each other for survival.

Smart modern cautionary tale for civilization
Asimov left us wanting more and this show is above expectations. First, I want to commend the retelling for taking a story devoid of a female presence and injecting powerful female leads. Thank you. All set design, costuming, makeup, and visual effects are beautifully futuristic, classic, and dystopian. A story about history and civilization at it's core is now a riveting drama about power, truth, endurance, perseverance, and humanity. I can't wait to see more.

Best anime to live action adaptation
Truly impressed with how this story was told, this is mostly an action adventure (and a period piece), and it is a thrilling ride. Rewatching the whole series again I just have to say Sato Takeru performs this character to perfection. Shy, bold, agile, flexible, disciplined his performance is humble, impressive, and thrilling!

Heartwarming romance between capable adults
The first thing that struck me about this show is that each character is independent, mostly self aware (of course there is room to grow) and making course correcting choices for a work/ mental health balance. Our leading female, Hye-jin is self-driven, stubborn, and self-accomplished. Our leading male, Du-sik, is a savant jack of all trades choosing to live a simple small town life filled with meaningful relationships vs a profitable city career. The episodes are still being released so there is more to unravel, and of course a love triangle, but this show is filled with tender moments, hearty laughs, and a harrowing sorrow for what is beyond our control.

Blood gore and social commentary
This k-horror is a must see. Lots of blood and death this tale is not for those with weak stomachs. But this tale delivers more than just shock value. It's a commentary on high stakes gambling where there is no risk greater than death. Children's games harken innocence while greed and sacrifice decide each players fate. The "VIP's" are the weakest link, depicted as caricatures of selfish rapacious greed; but even with their one dimensionality there is a lot of social commentary to consider.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Reality is a pill thats' hard to swallow
It's hard for me to find a single shortcoming for this production. Costume, hair and makeup, set design, writing, cinematography, editing and of course performance all synergistically deliver a powerful story about an introverted orphan girl with an affinity to chess and her relationships with peers and her adopted parents. This story unabashedly shows substance abuse on several levels, but more than that it shows unrelenting perseverance and a pursuit for freedom not in spite of social stigmas but as a logical alternative to them. This show may also inspire you to open a chessboard and play! A 2020 must watch.

Start Up is a RISK worth taking
I personally think this is a must watch story, part of the kdrama renaissance where traditional tropes are modernized. Startup introduces some basic language, hurdles, and challenges revolving around starting a business and pursuing and idea/ dream. The "why" do this needs to be answered by these ambitious youths on a personal and business level. At times the drama is predictable with a formulaic romantic triangle and underdogs fighting systematic oppression and stereotypes, but overall the story is endearing and wholesome. Ultimately, a feel good story where people do better when they work together. And though dreaming for a better future is not always a profitable model, it might be risk we can all manage.
