Frágiles (2005)
Not bad, not great, but not bad
It was not bad as far as ghost stories goes. Not exceptionally scary although Charlotte is pretty grotesque looking. The atmosphere in and around the hospital was sufficiently spooky and the leading characters were engaging enough. I wasn't keen on the scene when Calista was on the second floor running down the hallway with Maggie and the corridor was crumbling around her. It was a bit overdone, and almost felt like the director was trying for a cheap thrill. I think in ghost movies you can get maximum scare out of much less. There aren't a lot of great ghost story movies out there so beggars can't be choosers. It was watchable and much better than I thought it was going to be. It is considerably better than the Darkness.
Malevolence (2003)
Very Average
I think the biggest problem with this movie is that it portrayed itself as more than a slasher flick. As a result it wasn't a good slasher flick nor a good serial killer thriller. It wasn't very scary and the killer wasn't a very interesting character. Even in traditional slasher flicks, there is some insight into the mind of the killer. There was none in this movie. The film maker obviously did not do much research into the psyche of serial killers so he wasn't able to convincingly put this story on screen. The acting was bad too. At least with traditional slasher flicks, you go into the movie knowing exactly what you are going to get - a cheesy American horror movie with lots of blood and stupid naked teenagers. They are entertaining for what they are. This was just disappointing.
The Brown Bunny (2003)
No it's definitely the worst movie ever....
I'd love to give this movie a -10 rating, unfortunately the drop down box doesn't have that option, so I have to be generous and give it a 1. The movie consisted of 5 minutes of watching guys on motorcycles driving around on a track, 65 minutes of a side view of a greasy haired guy driving through the country, about 5 minutes worth of dialog and about 5 minutes of Chloe Sevigny performing oral sex. The characters were completely no believable or real. There was no plot, no dialog, no emotion, the "twist" was pretty obvious. It was impossible to feel the "pain" of the main character because by about 10 minutes into the movie you just don't care. It was like he was on a road trip and just forgot to turn his camera off. JT
