Murdoch Mysteries: My Big Fat Mimico Wedding (2018)
The Beauty of This Show Lies in its Variety
It is a rare show that can have the main characters partake in heavy episodes involving serious themes (death row, terminal illness, child abuse) one week and outright silliness the next, all while playing true to their individual personalities and quirks. While the mystery was a bit thinly veiled in this episode, the comedy was outstanding in its pacing and the interaction of the actors. Murdoch Mysteries is a wonderful gem because the characters are interesting, complex and imperfect; none is purely good ... although some are purely bad. They are outstanding representations of humanity and the fact that they can occasionally pull together an episode akin to Monty Python is okay in my book.
Foyle's War: High Castle (2015)
Love, love the show, but....
As usual, a wonderful glimpse into another time, with Foyle demonstrating the best of human nature. My only complaint is with the portrayal of the Clayton delMar character. His attempt at an American accent and demeanor is very distracting to the story and inaccurate to the extent this story reflects the activities of Standard Oil Company. Note to British actors/casting directors: most Americans do not affect a Texas accent and swagger. In this episode, it would have been more accurate for delMar (as the son of a rich industrialist based in New York) to have the "General American" accent. I watch a great deal of British-based television and it makes me a little mental that the Texas accent is the "go to" form.
