Gisaengchung (2019)
Absolutely incredible.
I've never been moved by a movie more than this. At times I was shouting at he screen and pulling my hair, practically jumping out of my seat. If you have ever wanted to know how to build tension in a movie in a subversive way, this would be the guide.
Don't even get me started on the cinematography, either. From the physical symbolism to the beautiful shots and angles the composition was majestic in a way. Like watching a master hunter track and slaughter it's pray, the viewer, who is completely unaware of what is about to unfold.
Not to mention the statement it's making about the class pyramid. The ending illuminates that part of the film perfectly; it feels as though it all comes together then. The story, the statement, the cinematography, and the symbolism. It all creates that beautiful ending that helps the audience truly piece it all together.
What a masterpiece
A Look Inside 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' (2004)
Beautifully Intimate
I loved this movie. It was everything I didn't know I wanted in a film. Those awkward moments and painful memories were really brought to life in a brutal way that I empathized with which left me with a strong connection to Joel. To counter that too, the happy moments where Joel remebers everything he loves about Clementine pulled at my heartstrings in a way most movies fail to do and it made the ending so impactful. I loved the cinametography; transitions were beautiful and practically seamless and the surreal imagery really made me fell like I was in someones mindscape. The morals that you can take away are wonderfull and I wish more movies were this meaningful and deep.
Donnie Darko (2001)
I loved this movie. (Directors cut)
This movie was so powerful. The deep and confusing plot was easy enough to follow but engaging enough that it involves you in the movie and you can really put yourself in the place of Donnie. The plot is a creative take on alternate timelines and it makes the movie very interesting the way it unfolds. I love how the plot takes you on an emotional roller coaster full of grey moral areas.
