All My Friends Hate Me (2021)
What do you see when looking at your yourself?
This movie is interesting showcase of a man crossing the 30 years mark and looking at his life, exposing his past actions and judging himself -maybe for the first time- on what he achieved in life.
I liked the mix of satire, horror and comic thoughts as it shows life's raw experiences, and how terrifying to look back at them after they are buried deep within our psyche.
I was not sure what the homeless scene meant, is it a reflection of how he see himself? Or his paranoia from the unknown.
Wether the friends characters were real in the movie or its all in our hero's head, in the end we are just scared little children that want to cling to a hopeful future.
Sharp Objects (2018)
What's up with B-rolls TV?
This series like most of mystery series in recent years, is extremely slow paced, dark cinematography, 80% B-Rolls and 20% of actual dialogue!
B-rolls suppose to be a filler and used scarcely, not most of the time, it makes the viewing boring and uninteresting, there is obviously a market for it, as some people like this style.
I have nothing against the actors or the story, the acting and directing is top notched, but I can only watch it with fast forwarding 80% of the time..
Black Moon (1975)
My interpretation
This movie has so many absurd and strange scenes there are probably lot of different interpretations, I do have one that hit me close to the end.
The main girl is basically a human that is growing up, not a child and not an adult, a teenager. The genders war is the universe which humans live in, very violent and deadly when you live alone without community.
The farm is the human civilization, we see the children naked, pure without shameful thoughts or deceit, they also have pure love to each other (the scene where a boy and girl sing the love duet from Tristan Und Isolde), and they play all the time and stare at things with wonder.
The adults are more complicated, sometimes they are very aggressive towards animals or towards each other, sometimes they are soft and nice, they care for the elderly.
The old lady is the elderly people, they believe in imaginary things and talk to animals (maybe reference to religions and superstitions), and they are very dependent on adults that they have to suck the milk out of women to survive.
The unicorn is the most interesting character, he is the poet, they philosopher, the wise person who everyone see as ugly and unfriendly because he figured life is absurd and worthless.
We see the girl react to all these characters throughout the movie in the same way a teenager react to the people in society, probably the only thing missing from this is the sexual energy that appears to be absent, but, I would not mind that, its still very interesting experience to watch the movie.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
Boring
Exactly like Better Call Saul, boring, slow, nothing happen, no character changes or development, no twists, no drama, no story, no plots.. just boring scenes and lazy dialogue to milk money from the franchise.
Breaking Bad was completely the opposite of this movie, which is why it was great show, what happened to the creators? why do they have lame spinoffs that hugely disappoints? I am really puzzled..
Special Correspondents (2016)
Feels like the movie was written in the bathroom
I love Ricky Gervais, the Office and Extras are one of the best comedies I have ever seen, they are intelligent, funny and dark, the characters he build have real average human dimensions, it connects with our daily struggle and touch our aspirations to become better human beings...
And he tried to do the same thing in this film.. and the overall plot is OK, but the characters are not well built, they are one dimensional and they barely connect with us or each other.. feels like Ricky had a constipation and wrote the script in the bathroom to pass the time..
He can do much better, and he did..
Ayoub (1983)
An excellent movie
Ayoub is a solid good movie, I think it was the first movie where Omar return to Egpt after decades to participate in an Egyptian film with Egyptian cast. Although some argue that Fouad el-Mohandess performed better than Sheriff in this film, Omar sheriff gave a brilliant performance, especially at the end. The story is about a retired guy who wanted to publish his biography which upsets lot of rich and corrupt people in government. The movie was directed with a strong french style, this is not common for Egyptian movies as they tend to be more commercial and melodramatic. I certainly give this movie 10 rating.
