Wrecked (2010)
Enjoyable if you enjoy this genre of film.
I went into this movie knowing vaguely what it was about, and I was really interested in seeing the delivery. I am a big fan of films that has a set listing of primarily one location, and also films that delve deep into the human condition. Movies such as Phonebooth and 127 Hours really succeeded in this aspect, at least in my opinion. So if this is something that also interests you then this movie wouldn't be a bad viewing for you. Adrien Brody has always been an actor I enjoy watching, he really embraces his roles to me. His performance in this film did not disappoint.
We wake up with him in the front seat of a wrecked car in the middle of the woods, confused, lost, and with no recollection of previous events. So in a sense we are in the same boat as the main character, and that is an interesting perspective.
The filming was well done, acting was great as always, the scripting and plot were pretty excellent. I felt like all the reactions displayed by the main character were extremely realistic, and the emotions conveyed really hit home.
The problems with this movie are the same as most every movie that you actually enjoy, whether that enjoyment is something you expected from the film or a surprise. The ending left way to many questions, and that made the movies overall appeal spiral downward. Now anything and everything you enjoyed about the movie becomes questionable because pieces are missing. There we're a couple twists and turns here and there that caught me off guard, but a lot of that becomes moot when you are left with a handful of questions. I'm sure a lot of filmmakers and writers are okay with leaving you with a cliffhanger ending, and I am okay with viewing one, if it is warranted. But when it just leaves you more lost and confused than you were previous that doesn't add anything to the film, it just takes away from it. Needless to say I was disappointed in the end, pun completely intended.
RECOMMENDED WITH CAUTION (If you like this genre of psychological suspense films then rent it or watch it on Netflix, don't buy it.
Pelt (2010)
Completely and utterly okay.
The filming was meh. The casting meh. The acting meh. Special effects meh. Overall the film was just that so, so. I do give it an A for effort though trying to be more than just a horror film full of hot teeny boppers with no brains. It has multiple attempts at some emotional moments, but then it goes back to the same old being chased here and there, but I do commend the effort. I'd say it gets a 3 at best, and thats because I round up. Most of that number is because of a brief moment between two characters that as I stated previous was at least an attempt to make this movie more than just ANOTHER horror movie. The acting and casting wasn't all bad, and Amber Bollinger is ridiculously attractive, like can't look away hott. Also something else I really appreciate is that there are no boobs, I mean I love boobs as much as the next guy, but anymore they have become their own character in horror films nowadays. They need to start calling them Whorror films really. But anyways that was a breath of fresh air to be honest.
Overall this is a netflix movie, that's where is currently resides, and rightfully so. It is mediocre in all aspects, leaves you with way to many questions like: Where did that person go for so long? What is the killer's motive? and so on. These are just a few examples of what i was left wondering.
NOT REALLY RECOMMENDED (Late night netflix movie to be played in the background.)
The Karate Kid (2010)
I hate a Remake that is literally the same film but worse.
I grew up on the original Karate Kid trilogy and I am very disappointed with this film. It is the same EXACT story with many scenes that could be viewed side by side with the original and the only real difference would be that they have a better camera in the new version. Jaden Smith is eh as an actor and Chan was really slumming making this movie. I used to think that when an actor went to commercials their career had gone south, but I guess this is the kind of thing they will start doing when they lose it. This movie is only good because it just brought back memories of the original. The dialogue is very dumbed down and the acting is meh, this is all done because it has been turned into a children's movie instead of left as a teenage movie where it should be.
