Solum (2019)
A Gem. A Surprise. Pure Sci-fi.
The reviewer that described this movie as "no point, bad acting..." is a moron and probably thinks the Real Housewives of Atlanta is fascinating.
I was more than pleasantly surprised by this movie... The premise is haunting and beautiful and horrific and scary as hell. Anyone that enjoys post apocalyptic stories will enjoy this. Anyone that likes aliens in their sci-fi will enjoy this. Think an adult hunger games with a winner's trip to eternity. Sure no laser guns Star Wars fans...just arrows and sticks and rocks!!!
Next. The acting is phenomenal for a bunch of unknowns. Kudos to the director. Usually a b movie has c acting. This has a acting. Hope that makes sense.
Next. The effects(very light touch) are soooooo perfect(I'd describe them, but it would be a spoiler)
Next. Filmed in one of the most beautiful places on earth...I googled it because I want to go there.
Enjoy this.
In the Dark (2019)
Hilarious and extremely quirky group of characters
Everything is funny. The dramatic scenes are always balanced with a hilarious line or sometimes just a funny look.
I won't delve into the characters or storylines, but every character is a show unto themselves. I discribe this show as Sherlock Holmes meets It's Always Sunny meets Scooby Do meets How to Get Away with Murder.
It's that good!!!
The Vanished (2020)
Was this supposed to be a comedy?
The Vanished is classified as an action/thriller movie, which it is, but why was I chuckling throughout? There is nothing funny about the underlying subject matter, yet the couple's actions and dialogue were consistently comical. Fargo kind of funny.
Watchmen (2019)
+8 stared? Who is watching Watchmen?
The show is not worthy of a review. Seriously, if you are a fan of the comic or movie adaptation ten minutes of the first ep will be enough to tune out. Don't believe me? Go watch it.
Now the reviews. These people watching and reviewing Watchmen can't be taken seriously. My guess is that they are new to Watchmen and have no prior applicable knowledge in which to accurately review this show with context. It would be like me jumping on a honda rebel motorcycle and saying "wow this is great" having never been on any motorcycle and not knowing Harleys, Triumphs, and Indians exist.
So, in short if you are too young to know any better...have at it.
Outer Banks (2020)
Quarantine Suprise
Like you, I've been holed up binge watching Nexflix and Prime. I've watched everything under the sun. This had just come out on Netflix and I started watching it. I never stopped.
It is a fun and enjoyable show. The casting is extraordinary...every actor hits it out of the park.
The story moves along at an engaging pace to the end, yet looking back, every episode could stand as a one off...on it's own. It's a remarkable accomplishment and kudos to the writers.
It's hard to categorize the genre. It's rated m, but no nudity or gore. I see no reason why a 13 year old couldn't watch it. It's funny, has many mini adventures, many misadventures, romance, shipwrecks, storms, fires, gunshots, keggers, jail, boys save girls, girls save boys, parents are devil's, parents are angel's, treasure maps ...and the show has fun doing all of it.
Perfect for a quarantine.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Easily the worst Star Wars movie. Sad really.
It is almost heart breaking to see such a brilliant franchise die before my eyes. Where can this go from here that is not completely contrived with absolutely no tie to the original trilogy? The best thing that could have happened was to have Rey take the Sith throne and Ben become the risen Skywalker. This was rubbish. Disney and their over indulgence of cute creatures also is such a take away from a once mature space opera. JJ Abrams should be done in Hollywood.
