Daria (1997)
It's hard to get hooked, but it's worth it.
I wasn't a big fan at the beginning, but I must admit that the show has its charm. I liked a lot the last 2 seasons and the movies, it has good humor, pretty funny characters plus good social criticism. It's not for everyone but it's worth a watch. Only problem is lack of character development, it's minimal and doesn't usually carry much weight, but it's passable for the era of television in which it was born. My rating is 7/10 because the first few seasons weren't that great and it took me a while to get hooked on the premise, plus Daria isn't the most endearing character until you get deeper into the series. Still not a big fan but I enjoyed my watch, I don't know if I'll rewatch though, maybe only a few episodes.
Jane Lane best character <3.
Manifest (2018)
Good idea, just not for an entire TV Show
Just finished the 8th episode and nah man, this show is stretching real hard the premise of the series.
The first episode is decentish but the rest of the episodes is just boring and tedious, I get it, writers need to let know the audience that our characters have emotions, they had family, drama happens, etc.
The point is that the show focus on the drama (not good drama btw) like 35 minutes of the episode and the actual plot is only 5 minutes of ambigous hints just to avoid audience dropping the show. Acting is below average, things happen just because the script needs it, everyone on the shows feels miscast, pacing is awful because barely something happens and I'm saying this after watching 8 episodes. The only good thing is the premise/idea, imagine this if it were a movie or a miniseries, god could've very good and interesting, but I guess we got this boring show instead.
3/10, don't waste your time. Watch something better.
Emily the Criminal (2022)
Aubrey Plaza is great, the movie not so much.
This movie could've better, the plot had potential. At least Aubrey Plaza and some scenes are worth it.
The plot is about our protagonist Emily (Aubrey Plaza), she works as a part-time delivery person for a catering company and lives in a shared apartment to save some money. She eagerly fills in for interviews in various firms, but wherever she walks in, her past conviction is questioned, and that spoils her prospects of getting a job.
Aubrey Plaza is very good, one of his best perfomances, but the rest of the movie...no. The rest of the cast isn't likeable, acting is average, plot is good at times but the rest of it is just very unbelievable, they make you wanna think "hey she's on money trouble because of the debt in college" but no, she's not. At least the movie doesn't make it feel like that, they only make you know that the debt exists but that's it, there's no real pressure that makes you believe that she needed to enter the criminal world. And the ending is just meh, nothing amazing and nothing disappointing. In general, the movie is a BIG meh. Not good, not bad, just meh. Watch it only if you like criminal plots and Aubrey Plaza, otherwise, pass.
