One Piece (2023)
Has its flaws, but still a lot of fun!
As a fan of the anime, I was a little sceptical when the news broke that there was going to be a live-action adaptation of One Piece. The trailers didn't exactly knock my socks off, but of course I had to watch the show to get my own impression. And admittedly, some of the costumes look like cosplay and some of the fights, especially the fight against Captain Morgan in the first episode, lack the lightness we know from the anime. Of course, this is only to be expected, as this is a live-action adaptation and therefore not fully comparable to an animated production. Still I thought the fights were lacking a little bit in general. In the end, however, I surprisingly had a lot of fun with this series, and that is mainly due to the fantastic actors, who have a wonderful chemistry with each other and embody their roles very well. The show also manages to find serious and emotional moments in between the many action-packed and funny scenes. Some of the visual effects are also worth seeing. If the few obvious flaws can be ironed out, then this is a very promising series. More of it, please!
