Andor (2022)
Amazing Storyline and Directing!!!!
THIS is OG Star Wars. Andor is the first show Star Wars show that is intelligently written. If you are an old fan of Stat Wars, then you will be able to greatly appreciate the show.
The Director definitely did his research and/or is a genuine fan of Star Wars. From the beginning, he put it in his contract that he would not put in any Disney "fan-service" in his TV show. That's why you don't see any clowns honking their red noses at the screen every 5 seconds.
The writing is amazing! The world building is unmatched. The character development is immaculate. All I can say is that this writer and director has made me a lifetime fan of his work. Even outside of the Star Wars universe, I will be looking forward everything he releases.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Pacific Rim is a better movie
From reading other reviews it sounds like they got some of the philosophical aspects of Goszilla correct, but that doesn't excuse such a crappy final product.
The human drama was so poorly written, yet it dominated the entire film. The writing was terrible! Why was the crappy drama 70% of the film (and I usually like drama) when this was supposed to be a monster fight movie??? The monster fights were probably only 20 minutes of this 2 hour movie. There were 17 monsters, and only 20 minutes of fighting??? How do you fail that much?
I consider story to be the most important aspect of any film. And that is why this movie was such trash. I wasn't expecting any story, and that would have been WAY better! The story/drama was so poorly written. The directing was so poor. I feel sorry for the actors who had to work with such a piss poor director.
Conclusion: Go watch Pacific Rim. You will hate yourself less afterwards.
Wotaku ni koi wa muzukashii (2020)
Deserves a 5.5/10
If you enjoyed the manga and the anime, then you will readily enjoy MANY aspects of this film!
I was really loving this film! Then, about 2/3 into it I was slightly disappointed. It is a DECENT adaptation of Wotakoi, and the two main actors really show the lovingly-awkward-chemistry that Narumi and Hirotaka have with one another. They spend the first half of the movie establishing their relationship, and I LOVED every second of it. They priced together stories from the manga that felt cohesive, and it had really good flow!
However, this movie only focuses on Narumi and Hirotaka's relationship, and that is where it fails a bit. I think if they had brought Kabakura and Hanako's relationship into the film at the halfway point, I probably would have given this an 8/10.
Because the plot mainly focuses on Hirotaka and Narumi by themselves, eventually the writers ran out of the useable source material. They added new drama in their relationship that wasn't necessary (or well executed) in my opinion. Hanako and Kabakura are in the movie separately in a few scenes, but they didn't add very much to the movie.
I really enjoyed the casting for every character, except Kabakura. The acting was much more tolerable than most Live-Action adaptations. Actually the acting was pretty good! It didn't feel like they were actually pretending to be cartoons. The acting was on par for your average asian comedy.
The movie was a musical. I am a big fan of musicals, and I have pretty high standards. Wotakoi LA did pretty good! The composing, lyrics, and dancing were excellent! I'll have to watch it a second time to really give the music parts a better analysis.
In conclusion, it was a lot better than I expected! The first half of the film is worth it by itself that I'm going to rewatch it at some point. So, if you liked the anime, give the Live Action a try!
Dolittle (2020)
This movie made me feel...nothing.
The writing was so flat. It is like they wanted to neutralize it for the kiddies. I didnt laugh, cry, worry. The theatre was mostly quiet, with a couple giggles out of the kids behind us during those obvious, this was setup to make kids laugh, kind of moments. And too much was crammed into a very short movie.
The movie could have been better if:
1. They had made multiple movies, and
2. Fired whoever directed this one.
A bummer, cuz I was hoping it was going to be a bit better.
Just Mercy (2019)
99% Accurate to the Actual Events, and that is what is important.
I just saw Just Mercy and it was the most powerful movie ive seen in many years. Injustice has been running rampant as recent as 1993, and we need to face it. Dont turn a blind eye to this movie's story. It is 99% accurate to what actually happened and it is a painful, but it also a triumph over evil and racism that deserves celebration. The acting was phenomenal and Jamie Foxx brought tears to my eyes multiple times while i watched: he deserves an Oscar for that performance!
Anyway! Go see Just Mercy! It will not disappoint.
