The Blacklist (2013)
What could have been.
What started as a great series with unique concept and excellent casting in role of James Spader, turned into long, unimpressive string of bore.
Seasons 1-5 are quite good. 6-present is horrendous. Storyline has advanced about 3 inches in these past 3 seasons. Show creator has no idea what to do with the story, and that's not an opinion, that's a fact proven by the show creator bailing from the show after promising us a "big answer" in the season 8 finale and giving us literally nothing.
Normally when I've invested so many seasons into a show, I will just stick with it to the end even if it's gotten bad. But after that slap in the face in the s8 finale, I'm done with The Blacklist.
No pay off and poor, sloppy writing to find cowards way out everytime completely ruined an otherwise good watch.
Argylle (2024)
No words to describe
Yeah, it's exactly that for me. It's good film and genuinely baffling.
First of all, whoever gave Henry Cavill that haircut needs to be checked. Secondly needed more Henry then what we got! And more interaction with John
Thirdly, every 30 mins there was a twist, like it would suddenly jump to another gear every few minutes, did not expected the story to actually go the way it went, which was pretty cool, but confusing as it felt like film was undergoing sort of teenage identity crisis or something.
Lastly, that nerd out long haired Henry Cavill was peak.
Still don't know how to explain it, was it good? Yeah kind of. Was it bad? Yeah. It's in middle somewhere.
A.P. Bio (2018)
Jumped too soon
This such a funny and original show, it brought the much needed refresh and originality which many don't have.
And to top off, it was genuinely funny with a very well casting.
Jokes landing, each episode was great, especially the 1-3 season. They were fantastic, each dynamic, each plot was lovely and very well done.
But then season 4 happened and then cancelled. Season 4 felt so rushed, completely disjointed from the first 3 seasons.
I was really digging the Lynette-Jack dynamic and she wasn't in S4 due to IRL issues and was replaced with Jack with another relationship and telling that things with Lynette didn't work out.
Don't watch S4, 1-3 are perfect.
Band of Brothers (2001)
A Memoir of Heroes
Words fail to describe the love for this series. A marvelous part of TV history that deserves all the praise it gets.
It's different from many other WW2 television, the way it shows the bond between the Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division and how they suffer through all during their campaign.
The losses they suffer, battles they fight, horrific events they come across, it portrays to maximum.
These lads didn't had it easy in WW2 and it shows it to great effect, the prelude interviews by these veterans is a welcome addition that adds much depth and reality to show itself.
The battle cinematography adds to much suffering.
All in all, a legend set in stone for heroes, RIP to legends of Easy Company 101st Airborne.
Loki (2021)
The God of MCU
S1 was one of best things of multiverse saga, S2 is one of, if not, the best things Marvel has ever produced.
While S2 picked up slowly from the S1, it took the ball and knocked it out of the ball park. The shift of theme from S1 and S2, that uptick in seriousness, those moments in S2 which even elevated S1 elements.
Breaking the series finale curse, Episode 6 of S2 is one of best TV ever created, a phenomenal piece of visual and creative story telling.
Tom Hiddleston is just an absolute fantastic actor. Already great as Loki, elevated the character to mountain of greatness.
9.5+ Rating for me!
Mr. Robot (2015)
Why isn't this talked about enough? I will never know
This a fantastic, mind blowing, story telling, gripping, twisting, heart setting, breath holding of a masterpiece.
The series delves into how modernity influences maladaptive behavior through the clash of an artificial environment and primal instincts. It seeks to convey the struggle between fulfillment and a character's inner motivations. Technology serves as an analogy for the quest for meaning in this artificial setting.
At the heart of the story's exploration of identity are themes that resonate with me long after watching. It examines how identity can form as a defense mechanism and persist to the point of causing harm, such as addiction to fill an emptiness or dissociation from trauma. These coping mechanisms shield us from the outside world but can eventually define us.
What sets this series apart from others is its unique aesthetic quality. While a highly stylized piece can sometimes compensate for a lack of substance, this series distinguishes itself by consistently delivering exceptional visuals, editing, and a powerful soundtrack, creating a mesmerizing and experimental style.
Season one manages an equal parallel between plot and character.
The second season, breaking the pattern of the show in its entirety, focuses almost exclusively on character, exploring the themes directly and without shying away from their implications. It is the most complex season by a mile, and experiments freely with style in such a way that makes it stand out, and compound in quality from the rest of the show, especially given the dark, elegant, careful nature of every other season, making this one have what will probably be the most rewarding rewatch.
Season three returns to the plot/character motif, while raising the quality ten folds. This has the most perfectly rated episodes thus far with half of its episodes.
And finally Season 4, a perfect ending. It starts with beauty and ends with it. Heartbreaking. Inevitable. Mesmeric. Shocking...perfect. (Disproportionately the greatest season of TV I have ever witnessed.)
Modern Family (2009)
My happy place
It's such a fantastic sitcom, probably my favorite comedy show ever. It gets everything right. It is one of those shows where I can put it on while I'm winding down for the day. There are no moments that make my anxiety spike, it's wholesome and cute. That show is my happy place. It makes me feel safe.
The writing is amazing, it's funny but also has depth, the cast is one of the best out there which provide well-rounded and likeable (even relatable) characters who actually learn and grow. Genuinely makes me laugh and most of stories and topics that come up naturally, anything hardly looks forced.
More than that, I really like that it depicts people who, while flawed, are a healthy and supportive family who love each other.
Just such a fantastic, warm and comforting show.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
Steamrolling the expectations
I mean I wasn't much sure of how the movie would be. Turns out it's a fantastic addition to fantasy genre.
I mean, it just feels like a feel good, hearty and warming film with bright comedy and just good story telling. It just perfectly captures that experience of role-playing as your fantasy characters.
The performances was cast were great for me, not any negative there. Oh and I loved the Soundtrack.
The CGI, is what I loved, I felt it was colorful and rich with magic, the special effects really produced magical scenes.
It is by no means, a fantasy marvel and masterpiece, but it is still a fantastic film in the genre which highly deserves the praise it gets.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
This is how you up your Game
GOSH! This is fantastic!
I still cannot get over the Animation, beyond good! Love how it just changes with background. It just perfectly blends in with the crazy multiverse theme. It's so good and it conveys everything, the emotions, the step to seriousness and everything. Every single scene makes you to look at it with high focus in case you miss something.
The artwork is fantastic. Massive step up from previously awesome ITTS.
The Soundtrack man, it is up there with the very best for me. Just so so good.
The Easter Eggs are all abound, which makes it more exciting.
The Story and the direction they took was much lovely!
Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008)
Just Simply Great
Yeah, there is just so much to talk about. So much that makes this show great. What Starts as light children show really become one of best things to ever come out of Star Wars.
The Arcs were excellent like the Mandalore Arcs, Yoda one, Maul one, Mortis one and so many others which made it wonderful.
New characters introduced really made it a proper setup for so much up ahead, and the deaths of characters like Commander Thorne and his troops, Fives, "Oh the nightmare..... I am Free" was such a masterpiece.
One of the greatest, most heart wrenching things that Dave Filoni accomplished with the Clone Wars series; he "humanized" the clones. Watching Order 66 being carried out before watching the Clone Wars, it was tragic, it doesn't really evoke any real emotion to see the "pre-stormtroopers" gun the Jedi down. But after watching the series all the way through, especially the last season, it puts that segment of RotS into an entirely new perspective. He gave the clones life, in a way that the movies couldn't; he allowed us to see them as what they really were, men.
Not just faceless, unfeeling soldiers like the droids they fought, but men who felt like other men did, the same emotions, anger, fear, sorrow, regret, joy. Dave Filoni forced us to realize that many of these clones considered the Jedi as their friends and trusted allies, and how much it must have torn them up inside to have to turn their weapons on them. To this,, I simply say, Thank you, for giving us another perspective that we didn't know we needed.
The connection we as the audience have built with these characters is truly incredible. And the connection we have built to the story. It isn't perfect but it's beautiful from the highs, lows, laughs, tears, and it's flaws. That's what makes it's special.
So So heartbreaking and wonderful Masterpiece.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Have you heard the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One?
As much flawed as first two parts of the prequel were. This hit the nail on the head.
Everything was perfect, the settings, characters and the execution. Each played the part perfectly, all that setup from previous two films, paid off brilliantly here. It set up everything for Star Wars for the original trilogy.
The life and character it breath into already excellent original trilogy, the layers it added on top of already brilliant characters. The depth it added to the story was expertly done to perfection.
Anakin's love, his life and sufferings, his obsession with Padme and how it ultimately drove him to what he wanted to prevent. Will never such thing again, marvelous to point of finest cinema.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2011)
The Nostalgia of my childhood
I know I am very late to the party and I am disappointed with myself that it took me so much time to finish them all. Watched the first 3 when I was 8 years old, loved, always stayed with me.
But never watched the rest, just strayed away.
Yet when I finally watched it, I did not believe why I waited so late to finish it all. Personally one of my favorites there ever will be, not many or hardly any will ever top this is special genre.
I loved the trio dynamic of 3 friends, I loved the friend relationship between Harry and Hermione, just was far better then romantically one, all 3 had one of best on screen chemistry and dynamics.
Some special characters deserve shout out, Severus Snape was the highlight along with Voldemort, Dumbledore and many others.
The story spanning over 8 films was just great for me and finale was just as good, the setting, cinematic, atmosphere were also breathtaking.
All in All one of greatest film series to be ever produced.
Justice League Unlimited (2004)
The Series that told the Original Story
I have loved the new DCUAOM, it is much a much darker universe, embodying the character of DC. However despite how many excellent pieces they produce, it still pales in comparison to JLU.
A proper Justice done to Justice League with excellent execution. It makes up where the modern movies lack, where there is some quite a lot.
Most obvious one is the range of superheroes it introduced, rather then being stuck to same ones, which we have seen over and over again, characters like Vigilante, Vixen, Shining Knight, Question and several more were introduced to casual audience, and each of them was brilliant in itself.
Another thing I came to love was the depth in story it told. A random scene between Vigilante and Knight about Clint Eastwood movies, was it necessary? No, did it add depth? Yes. It told a great other side of heroes, providing excellent depth to each of characters, something which I woe for in modern DCUAOM, where there is a lack of.
This was my childhood and I loved it when I watched it as kid, still love it to this day.
JLU will always be pinnacle of DC.
Justice League Dark: Apokolips War (2020)
A terrifiingly impressive, gripping, dark & unforgettable conclusion to the New 52
What an end to DCAMU, a brilliant saga, dark, harrowing and overall an experience like no other which DC perfectly delivers and does justice to the the term dark story line.
The whole thing was glorious and depressing. By the end, there was nothing left to save. Earth became a dying world and Superman was delusional enough to believe they could salvage it. The movie was extremely brave and told a story where even the best efforts of heroes are not enough.
Overall, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is a fantastic conclusion to DCAMU's Justice League Dark saga. It's a thrilling and emotional ride that will leave viewers satisfied and in awe of the incredible storytelling and animation. Highly recommended for fans of comics and animation.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)
A Whisker-Raising Adventure
The movie had no right to go this hard. DreamWorks outdid themselves by raising the bar here, showing the other animation companies how to get things done. This film is surprisingly much darker and impactful masterpiece that showcases the animation studio's incredible talent and attention to detail.
The animation in this film is nothing short of breathtaking, with a combination of vibrant colors and stunningly realistic movements (with shades of AOT type animation) that are sure to leave us in awe, sure did to me.
The story is equally impressive, with a rich and complex narrative that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.
But what truly sets this film apart for me is its villain, Death. He is one of the most ice cold and memorable animation villains I have ever seen, and his impact on the story is nothing short of awe-inspiring. His presence in this film is so imposing even though he doesn't have that much screen time he feels like he's there all the time.
Also his whistle is crazy and genuinely terrifying and his dialogue is also superbly written intimidating lines which add to the tension and drama of the film. Just wonderful wonderful writing for him.
All in All, the movie was just that good. A cinematic art and must watch, especially for animation fans. It's a shining example of DreamWorks exceptional storytelling and animation to produce such a quality animated movie in 2023 where others are producing subpar animated movies.
The Pale Blue Eye (2022)
Melancholy, uncanny & morbidly good
This narrative is told with a very good plot and is much more mature and realistic than one could anticipate.
With the setting in the 1830s, which I believe should be the subject of more films based on both period itself and the genre, the atmosphere and setting are excellent. I would love to see more supernatural murder mysteries set in the Victorian era because there aren't enough of them.
The cinematography is superb, and the brooding, ominous, melancholy, dark, yet revealing atmosphere perfectly suited the narrative's tone.
The main benefit is also the production. I genuinely appreciated the director even though the pacing was a little slow because no single scene in the movie was tedious.
After a few lackluster performances in films like Amsterdam, Bale provides an extremely understated yet captivating performance. Henry Welling, however, was the standout in my opinion because of his great portrayal of E. A. Poe and his lighthearted demeanor from the start of the film.
Overall, it didn't live up to my very high expectations and might have benefited from greater direction and tempo, but I still think it is worth watching.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
A Mix of everything
If everything was based around on single story movie, this would have been a average/passable of 6 rating. Story was bland, fell pretty much flat.
But thanks to some magnificent nostalgic, some brilliant revelations and an terrific finishing to some character arcs and the excellent ending. It's pretty good imo.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013)
Light hearted, funny, delicate and exceptional comedy
One of my favourite comedy shows. I love the light hearted comedy in the series. The long running jokes and puns are hilarious and delivery is spot on. Most of all the Real time movies based dialogues are one of my favourites.
The characters themselves are lovely with perfect castings to perform them and the character development during the seasons is extremely good. Samberg and Fumero are great at their roles. Braugher, Terry, Truglio, Chelsea and Beatriz are at their top selves too.
Lastly, the way this show highlights the norms and prejudices that exist in society is just wonderful. Like the problems Women face in daily life (He Said, She Said episode) was one of my favourites highlighting everything. Then Holt and Terry showed exemplary the way that Homophobia and Racism exists!
Shooter (2016)
Gripping, Serious and ForceFul
Loved the show from start to beginning despite some lost of interest Midway into season 2.
First season was as usual good and basic of Bob Lee Story. Framed for murder and he comes back. But the beauty was that how they continued the story for people who didn't read the books but only watched the Mark Wahlberg movie.
The Characters were brilliantly intertwined from one season to another and mini details were great.
In the end a good series and worth a watch
Forever (2014)
Simply Great show
There aren't many shows which hook you up from the first episode, but this show did just that.
A great show in its own.
With great concept and smooth story
Prodigal Son (2019)
Quite a Good show in its own
Combining the elements of psychology, cops, detectives, Murderer minds and Entertainment coupled with some good story telling elements.
It's a great show and I loved it, especially some story elements that ran along a couple of episodes which made it look good and had some good intriguing elements.
Good number of surprises and a decent end, which could have been better if Episodes would have been 22 as intended.
Nonetheless, worth a watch. Can't wait for next season.
