The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)

Well done, Stuart Townsend!

An entertaining and well made movie. I enjoyed the chemistry between Mina Harker and Dorian Grey the most. The actors who played these parts were excellent! The movie sparked such an interest in my son that he read the classics that the leagues characters come from. That is why I give this movie a 10. Any movie that makes you want to read the book is a winner! Mina Harker is played by Peta Wilson and Dorian Grey is played by Stuart Townsend. I also recommend that you see Stuart Townsend in "The Queen of the Damned" and "Trapped" and "About Adam" and "Head in the Clouds". I would like to see him in many, many more movies.

Stuart Townsend is a marvelous actor!

Stuart Townsend and Vincent Perez had good chemistry with each other. I enjoyed watching them act because they became the parts they played and were believable. I think this movie was visually more stunning than Interview with a Vampire. I like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, but as vampires they looked malnourished and seemed uncomfortable in their roles. I would like to see Stuart Townsend in the role of Lestat in future movies. I give QOTD a 10 for the music as well. But the soundtrack is performed by other artists and not the same singer as in the movie. Just listen to the DVD. I also recommend the DVD widescreen version over the full screen.

What a Girl Wants (2003)

What Every Girl Wants..

She finds her father after a journey across the ocean which turns into a journey to find herself. A great movie for family movie night! I saw this with my daughter (8 yrs old) and we both loved it. I was so glad to see a movie for the whole family rated PG!! We also recommend "The Importance of Being Earnest" with Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon. And, while your at it, see "Pride and Prejudice" with Colin Firth, another of our family favorites!

Hostages (1992 TV Movie)

An Eye Opener

This film helped me understand what went on during this crisis. I recommend it to anyone wanting to gain insight into the event as well as reading the books that have been written about this ordeal. I thought the actors portrayed the actual hostages with a strong desire to get it right. Excellent job by Colin Firth and company!

Dudley Do-Right (1999)

A great family pick!

I grew up watching the cartoon as a child. I found this movie to be very funny and wholesome. It is hard to find entertaining movies that both adults and kids can enjoy together. Not only did Brendan Fraser portray a believable Do-Right, he also, with the help of his sidekick (that comic Monty Python man, Eric Idle), makes a GREAT Do-Wrong (said with a French accent). Even better, Alfred Molina is hysterical as Snidely Whiplash!!! It is clear that he enjoys pouring on the smarm for the "bad guy" role. I don't believe anyone could have played a better comedic bad guy that he does. There is a real need for quality G-rated "family" movies and I believe this film fits the bill!

A Walk on the Moon (1999)

Takes you back to the Sixties!

First, the music is what made this movie for me. Second, the performances by the main actors are so believable and touching. I think the story's a little far fetched, but within bounds because it has a good ending. (ALTHOUGH..., the blouse man IS very tempting. Viggo Mortensen's sexy performance of the blouse man is worthy alone of watching! Also see Viggo as Aragorn in "The Fellowship of the Ring" movie and its sequels. Excellent!!)

Shakespeare in Love (1998)

Excellent acting and choice of actors!

Two of the actors surprised me, although(I rarely find it so) I loved everyone in the film. They were G. Rush and Colin Firth, because they became their character so convincingly. I didn't even recognize them they were so well disguised! All lot of actors could never melt into character as convincingly as these two actors do. My hat goes off to them both!!

A Month in the Country (1987)

Excellent performance by Colin Firth.

Colin Firth, as Tom Birkin, has me truly believing he IS Tom Birkin. The physical, mental and emotional trauma of war and what it does to those who survive are mirrored on Birkin's face as he attempts to get on with life and complete his assignment in the little town the story takes place. The scene where the reverend's wife is taking Birkin back to church by way of the wood is one I will never forget. It sums up the message of the story in one shot! Birkin's reaction was so similar to my own.

Jim Carter (who has also appeared with CF in The Hour of the Pig and Shakespeare in Love) is also a real treat. A Month In The Country has a lovely cast and some top notch performances. This is one of those movies worth searching for!
