Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Blurry mess
Zack Snyder has peaked after his masterpiece justice league Snyder cut, the city of the dead movie was extremely boring and had his new style blurry backgrounds, in rebel moon I thought zack might have a come back moment, while the story line is ok and interesting enough, the performance is lacking and worse is that he took the "blurry visuals" that he came up with in city of the dead to the next level. Literally every scene is entirely blurred other than the character that is speaking and certain objects, everything from people in the background, foliage, nature, trees, sky is blurred in a "fish bowl" style lens which makes it extremely unwatchable and beyond ridiculous. What is zack snyder thinking here??? Every scene is ruined by this blur which takes away from great details in the scene and is painful to the eyes. This is why I only give it two stars, big fail from zack.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Good movie overall but not a masterpiece as many claim
Don't get me wrong Oppenheimer is a good solid movie, but it does suffer from major problems that Nolan is incredibly stubborn about since Tennet (I consider tennet a satire on Nolan's own work, the movie was a total joke)
Now comes Oppenheimer, you can tell immediately as the movie starts Nolan has put in a solid effort and hard work here, the visuals, lightening and cinematography immediately come off as top notch. The storyline is well written and presented, but then there are many problems with this movie such as
- it's loud, and I mean, extremely loud, lawsuit material loud, I could imagine number of hearing loss caused by this movie it is not necessary at all. Nolan increasingly is turning up the volume on his movies
- the soundtrack is amazing however in many parts it seemed overused and doesn't fit in the scene at all, was completely out of place. You'd have a seen with mediocre dialogue and this extremely high pitch overly dramatic and impeding doom music play but really thought big is happening. And you had the tennet style reverbs play at almost every other scene and twist it got old, why use tennet style soundtrack , make something unique like Nolan previous movies.
- the third act was totally unnecessary and long, it did get boring. They spent way too much time on the silly security clearance thing, yes we know the government and intelligence agencies are corrupt we see it to this day with trump and others being unfairly convicted. Ok we get it but don't spend an entire hour on it. Reminded me a bit of sully it seems very much inspired by sully the movie
- the performance went from really good to really bad throughout the movie, there was clear inconsistency. The sex scenes are super cringe infact in one scene you can see the lady is humping his leg, it was so badly edited.
Overall I cannot give this movie a masterpiece label, due to this issues. I do hope however Nolan keeps making movies, i do love his vision and mind. I guess tennet taught him a lesson and he seems to try harder now. However I don't know if we will ever see Nolan make something legendary, his last masterpiece was dunkirk and that was his peak.
The Watcher (2022)
Keeps you hooked till the end but suffers from plot holes
Overall a decent show if you're after a thriller mystery, I personally love this genre and wish we saw more movies and shows that do this. It's really well written with good pacing until about episode 6 when it just starts to get silly and makes no sense, but I sort of understand why they did this since it was loosely based on a true story, the case is unsolved afterall so you cant really put a conclusion hence why it ended the way it did. Lots of plot holes too and the whole private investigator plot and character was stupid.
I still recommend you watch this show purely for entertainment purposes.
Spencer (2021)
We really don't need another Diana movie
You can tell this movie was purely made as an attempt by producers and directors to win an Oscar, there is always a line up of such movies every year purely made for Oscar nomination.
Kristen Stewart, while incredibly beautiful, has zero resemblance to princess Diana, her acting totally fails to capture Diana, she tries really hard but she is clearly not up to the task. If you want to see perfect casting for diana checkout the tv show called the crown you will be mindblown
The soundtrack is also bizzare, use of film noir jazz music everywhere made no sense and felt so weird, again. Watch the crown and see how good of a soundtrack they have for that show that perfectly captures the royal family
Really bad movie, totally unnecessary.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
JC once again pushes the boundaries or CGI, but movie suffers from many missed opportunities
Don't get me wrong, go watch avatar 2 it's great, for the visuals alone it's worth it. However a few hours after you leave the cinema you'll realize just how forgettable the movie is.
The plot is a repeat of the first movie, and at its core it's silly, but that's not really what the movie is about, the movie is mainly about family and "save the whales". The first one was protecting forests, this one is about saving the whales. (Which to this day suffer cruel hunting and extinction). While forgettable the story does a good job at keeping you entertained and pushing its core message.
The visuals are incredible, James Cameron has finally managed to push the boundaries of movie graphics once again, the characters move in accurate human like animation, while motion capture has been done since ages, never to this degree of detail and accuracy. The environments, colours and lighting are beautiful to look at. There is a big problem however, in its 3D format the movie suffers regularly from judder, this is a big distraction and very poor outcome considering the amount of work they put into the movie. It's such a shame James Cameron would not pick on this
The soundtrack while great, was poorly used in the movie, this is a missed opportunity because they could've created really memorably scenes and taken the movie to another level had they used the soundtrack better.
I really wanted to give this movie an 8, but I cannot because of the shortfalls in plot, writing, faulty 3D visuals judder, poor use of soundtrack and an overly lengthy third act.
The Crown (2016)
Masterpiece show , one of the greatest of all time
This show is incredible so well done in every aspect. They creators do their best to make it as accurate as possible which is very reassuring. Very interesting storyline to see how the royal family operates and the challenges they face and how disconnected they are from reality and the public.
The cinematography, soundtrack, performance , writing is all AAA, and honestly I can't wait until the next season is released, it's just such a good show and I hope Netflix keeps fund it, and more importantly I hope they go all the way to the present day including the death of the queen and coronation of King Charles.
Dubai Bling (2022)
Dubai has lost its culture and identity
This show is proof that Dubai, once a great cultural Arabian hub is now a wannabe western state.you go to Dubai local people pretend they Americans and British they all have fake British's md American accents. The country also gave up its Islamic culture in order to be relevant to the world, the fact this show was even allowed in Dubai tells you the direction that country uae has gone. My advise to Dubai media industry is to go back to your roots and show the world your culture and stop trying to be a western country, you sold your soul it's not worth it. Everyone in this show is the worst of the worst on this planet, pure materialism and no class.
Bridgerton (2020)
Makes no sense, only hyped by the media so others feel obliged to like it
This entire show is a mess and makes zero sense, it's a fantasy and the demographics absolutely don't exist in reality. People need to stop calling it a period piece as if it's a reflection of real history
It's a fantasy world, and a terrible one.
Bumblebee (2018)
Very surprised at low rating, this is the best transformers movie
Bumblee bee hands down is the best transformers movie, it's pays respect and homage to the original 80s transformers. The movie focuses more on plot and storyline vs messy action scenes.
Robot designs are clean and make more sense and closer to original transformers, michale bay designs while cool were overly complex and in action scenes looked way too messy and bulky.
I am very saddened by the fact this movie didn't do too well financially, maybe because it was branded as "bumblebee" rather than use transformers title. If they simply went and put "transformers: bumblee origins" or something people would've known, most ppl I speak to don't even know this movie exists!! It was also very poorly marketed, When I first saw it and told my work colleagues and friends no one knew about it!
I would prefer we see sequels based on this version of transformers than the Michael bay ones.
The Batman (2022)
Visually stunning "Detective Batman" movie, with some missed opportunities
I have to say, this is the best Batman movie made in terms of visuals to date, it's incredibly good to look at, stunning, and the soundtrack compliments it very well.
The storyline is very well written, this is more of a "detective Batman" where a considerable amount of the movie is spent on detective work. This is not a Nolan "epic" , the story is smaller in scale and focuses on crime scenes and solving riddles
There are some missed opportunities, for example while the action is short and sweet, I think there was a lot of opportunity to include more raw violent fight scenes along with better use of Batman gadgets. There is also missed opportunity with the soundtrack, while the main theme is awesome and powerful, the music that's used in between falls flat and is very generic. Also some dialogue is very boring and felt like filler, the entire romance between bat and cat was forced, i have no idea why they keep attempting it, they should just drop the whole romance factor and focus more on actual plot or add some more action.
I truly loved the bat mobile, and the car chase scene was great and realistic esp adding on traffic in the chase scene made it more realistic.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Great movie but should've spent more time on characters
Excellent and very well done movie, but the key here was psychological torture and torment of rose is hasn't been depicted properly, the whole premise was that Phil torments her to the point she loses her ability to play the piano and then turns to alcoholism, but we never really see the high level of torment he applies on her, we just see some snarky remarks that he makes a couple of times and annoys her with his banjo but that's it, next thing she's gone mad drinking booze all over and her son goes on a dark genius (and successful) quest for revenge in order to rescue his mother.
I think the movie should've spent more time on Phil's torment of Rose and showed exactly why and how she went mad and started boozing to the point her son felt the need to kill Phil.
Kidô senshi Gandamu: Senkô no Hasauei (2021)
Incredible atmosphere and animation, only gundam fans will understand
First of all the animation, cinematography and atmosphere is incredible. World design is 10/10 and pretty decent writing and storyline. The night scenes were amazing and having to see mecha fights from perspective of people on the ground was very cool and you really feel the scale of it
Clearly only for gundam fans if you're new to gundam you'll probably be scratching your head.
I really enjoyed this movie but it has one major problem, the gundam fights and designs. Unfortunately you can barely see the gundams the director chose to keep them off camera for most of the movie and then in the end when they are fighting it's all happening in a flash, the gundam design actually looks horrible, possibly the worst gundams design so far, they took a very unusual route with the design making them look with big spikes and dragon like but it was poorly executed. And it's like they don't even want you to see them because the camera is mostly zoomed out and the fight is happening all in flashes , at some point you can't even tell which is which. This is very unfortunate as something gundam series is good at is showcasing the awesomeness of the gundams but we never get that opportunity here.
The Serpent (2021)
Amateur camera work and cinematography, horrible acting
Acting is horrible very amateur and cringe
Camera work and cinematography is one of the worst I've seen, there is no flow between shots just random cuts of different angles
I have no idea why people rating this so highly , people have such low standards !
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Snyder is back! And This movie is his best creation yet
Wow the movie is mind blowing epic! Justice league went from the worst superhero movie ever made to one of the best super hero movies ever made! All thanks to the Snyder cut
The action scenes are slick and pure zack Snyder goodness, he really brings out the kid in him when he does the super destructive action scenes
I'm so glad zack Snyder was finally able to achieve his vision, this is what he really wanted us to see. The movie is incredible, my only complaint is the picture format 4:3 which is a square box in the middle of the tv, very poor choice. regardless the movie was so good that it didn't distract much.
Tenet (2020)
Nolan's only bad Movie, but it's really really bad! They even stole from Netflix Dark!
Wow what can I say, Huge Nolan fan but I am so disappointed and I fear Nolan may have peaked and it's all downhill from here, hopefully not and this is just one bad movie fingers crossed, although he seems convinced this is his greatest project so far (it is the worst)
Tenet has a promising concept but all we got out of it is "cool looking" rewind action, and it does feel like the whole thing was done just as an Nolan experiment on how rewind action would look like.
This was also clearly Nolan's attempt at a James Bond movie, the boats, exotic locations, scenery shots, lonely abused woman, cartoonish Russian villain, but it was so poorly executed. He always wanted to direct a James Bond movie so this was him executing that vision and failing so hard.
The acting and performance is so bad and amateur, just couldn't stand it. In some scenes it's so horrible and laughable. The main actor is such a bad casting, his voice is so soft, he is short as a hobbit, and has no personality, no charm, the movie tries really hard to sell us that he's a charming smart secret agent, but he fails to deliver any of that, no wonder all he got was a friendzoned kiss on the forehead.
The editing maybe the worst and most bizzare I've ever seen with lots and lots of mistakes, a lot of conversation scenes feel like they have been shot separately with as they never show them in the same shot, the camera keeps jumping from person to person in seconds, looks like a high school film project
The movie cost $350 million apparently with nothing to show for. Many of the effects look fake and exploding buildings clearly made of styrofoam.
The soundtrack was non existent, it was literally the trailer music just played constantly in a loop, so annoying, I really hope Nolan brings back Hans zimmer. Speech is hardly audible every actor is whispering it's so bizzare to watch
I won't spoil it but the ending is so bad and laughable, that final battle scene is so poorly scripted, everyone running and shooting in the air what a joke! most of the movie and plot is so badly written but I gave it a chance only for it to end in such a terrible way, anyone following the Netflix series dark will understand the ending is stolen from the plot of Netflix show Dark
I really hope Nolan listens to his audience, his next project is a remake of memnto completely unnecessary, which is why I fear we may have seen peak Nolan
Transformers: War for Cybertron (2020)
Very lazy animation poor voice acting
The animation is really bad, not old the frame rates are jittery, the animations are horrible they don't move like robots their body actually moves like human skin and muscles very very bad. Environments are bland and lack any creativity or imagination. Voice acting is horrible and cringe hard to watch this!
So sad being transformers you'd think they would go all in insuring high quality product
Der Untergang (2004)
Great movie, but wrongly humanises Nazis
Well made and directed movie, but makes significant and unforgivable error of humanizing nazis. I studied WWII history really well and make no mistake the women played an equally evil and dispicable and white supremacy role as the men yet women are shown and sweet innocent angels who didn't know better. I can only hope the makers of this movie had no sympathetic views of the third reich who were responsible for the deaths of 80Million human beings
Space Force (2020)
Wow they've really messed it up half way through the show!
At first when I saw first two episodes I came to imdb and rated this show 8/10, was laughing out loud loving the show excited to keep watching. But the half way through the season the show's quality and humor takes a dive. It literally turns to a family drama and the attempt of at humor gets so bad you won't even be smiling.
Once I hit episode 8 show became unwatchable and gets way too serious With family drama and the side characters from space force just get stupid doing boring unfunny scenes
I wish the "makers of the office" stuck to The format they are familiar with, very disappointed with this show
Dorohedoro (2020)
Unique Anime with bizzare psychedelic worlds
Loved this anime, Totally surprised, also learnt it's based on a cult hit manga. Great animation, unique art and worlds, kick ass sound track, engaging storyline.
So happy Netflix is pumping out more and more anime, I feel like Netflix has finally turned things around and hired the right ppl in their anime team who are picking up really good Anime projects
Keep them coming Netflix !
La casa de papel (2017)
Incredible first season, falls apart towards the end of season 2
The first season of this show is a hidden gem on Netflix loved it and couldn't stop watching, however the writing starts falling apart towards the end of season 2, that's when it starts getting ridiculous, specificly motorcycle scene Rushing unscathed into the royal mint midsts of sniper and machine gun fire is when the show jumps the shark and then the plot just gets worse and worse and even gets boring.
As a result I have decided not to watch this show beyond season 2
The Witcher (2019)
Extremely overrated, terrible writing
Terribly written, jumbled up timeline with no explanation made it a mess, dialogues are awkward cheesy , overuse of F word , poor sound track, bad acting with exception of Henry Cavill the Akward F words not his fault just bad writers
Visuals are great in some scenes and terrible in others
Storyline is a big mess, timelines were all jumbled up u had no idea unless U read the books there was no reason to do this other than make it appear like it's a complex story. It shouldn't be. Characters are so poorly made and ruined by political agenda of the writers
Overall big disappointment, 4 stars for some enjoyable scenes and Well done action
Cike Wu Liuqi (2018)
Suprise Anime Masterpiece !
Wow what a surprise, thought This will be a bore fest, boy I was wrong!
I love how basic the storyline and premise is, nothing too complex just the barebones and that's the highlight of this anime when others try to hard to go through a web of a plot that goes nowhere. the animation is very cool and constantly transforming from rough to very dynamic fluid action animation accompanied by great Kick ass soundtrack
This anime will make you laugh, make you emotional, make you cry, make u cheer. just overall great in every way
Also my first Chinese anime, good stuff! Good job Netflix bring us more of this!
Polaroid (2019)
Electricity wasn't invented according to this movie
Every scene has the lights off, house light off, school don't have lights even police station light was turned off except a desk lamp, streets have no lights, there is no such thing as electricity in this movie such a badly shot movie with horrible storyline
Westworld (2016)
Totally Fell apart towards the end of season 2
Season one was amazing one of TVs best shows ever, writing, cinematography, characters, dialogue, everything it was a masterpiece and Jonathan Nolan really proved he can deliver on his own without his equally genius brother Christopher Nolan
However half way through season 2 is where this show collapsed, the story made no sense and ur face palming by the end of the season
Season 3 picks up again with a new blade runner style and starts of well loved the new spin on things, but again falls apart after few episodes with the latest episode being unwatchable, I probably won't finish this show beyond episode 8
Either Jonathan Nolan isn't involved as much anymore or they tried to milk the show beyond what it should have been and no amount of good writing would save this. With the current situation I would say should have left it at season 1 and moved on
I look forward to Jonathan Nolan's future projects but I've given up on westworld
Too Hot to Handle (2020)
Started off really well but ended up being about 1 person
Loved this show at first don't get me wrong but half way through the show becomes entirely focused on the most annoying character Franchesca and her puppy Harry. Ok she is hot we get it, I feel it was really unfair and huge missed opportunity not to give other participants enough time to develop their own stories and relationships, feels like the producers made a decision to dump everything and make it all about Francesca. Even when they got the new surprise guests, they still found a way to make it about her by getting kori to ask her on a date. By the end of the show u even forget there are other participants other than Harry and Francesca, the others clearly are frustrated by this aspect, the very last scene before end credits was Harry talking about how he wants to sleep with her
Even the Jesus dude had enough of being ignored by the show and left early on by himself
