Arcanum (2009)
What is the Arcanum?
I usually don't write comments, but seeing that this film is awaiting votes and I am probably one of the few who has seen it, I figured I may as well.
I saw a work in progress at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal in July. Fantasia is a cool film fest and this is a cool film.
It is reminiscent of films by Jodorowsky, but a lot more accessible. More sci-fi-ish too.
The film basically explores the workings of the mind by using the medium of film/video as an allegory - that's my interpretation. It intertwines this concept with the narrative, which I found kind of cool, and although I don't think that the work in progress made that clear, I'm assuming that the final version will.
This film is definitely in my top 10 of indie films. Most indie films all feel the same - but not this one. It just seems like it stands apart - that said, it's still an indie film. If you are only used to Hollywood films, this storyline won't please you (although the images and music might still).
But if you are tired of Hollywood, yet don't want to see some lame art-house film, then this film is just right for you.
