Catscratch (2005)
Very Cute Cartoon
"Catscratch" is a cute cartoon. I think I like it because it reminds me of "Ren and Stimpy" -- but its humor is watered-down in comparison. "Catscratch"'s humor is just crude and violent enough, like "Looney Tunes", to keep a viewer's attention. "Catscratch" is not overly shocking or offensive.
The premise behind the show is that 3 cats suddenly inherit a fortune from their deceased owner. They get the mansion, the money, and the butler. The lovable characters Mr. Blick, Hovis, and Waffle possess the same brotherly-camaraderie that the three stooges shared (Moe, Larry, and Curly). Mr. Blick is the Moe character, Hovis the Larry, and Waffle is the crazy Curly doppelganger. The hijinks they get into are hilarious.
I love the little newts that sing the theme song introducing the show. They make me want to sing along.
Grim Tales (1989)
Excellent TV show
"Grim Tales" was an awesome TV show! I used to watch it when I was 8 years old. I never understood why it came on SO LATE at night--around midnight on the BRAVO channel. Rik Mayall is hilarious! If you've ever seen the movie "Drop Dead Fred", you know he is a comic genius. His facial expressions and range of voices give him full ability to tell Grimm Fairy Tales effectively. Each show he would narrate a different fairy tale, like Rapunzel, The Three Feathers, etc. Although the narration stays true to the original stories, he makes full use of improvisization and modern adaptations. In between his narration they sometimes show animations and have little plots going on with Rik Mayall and the crew, or his chicken chair. I hope they make a DVD
The Tragedy of Macbeth (1971)
A very realistic portrayal of the way things were.
I have just finished reading Macbeth in one of my classes and we saw this movie as a visual. Roman Polanski's version of Macbeth is very truthful in its portrayal of midevil Scotland. Blood and gore are not spared because it was a war filled time. Beheadings, bear-baiting, and superstitious beliefs were all common place.
The actors and actresses were well chosen for the parts, especially Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. The witches are a riot! All the characters stick strictly to the original script of Shakespeare's play although the sililoquies may stop and then be picked up again later. The Porter scene is just as funny as it is intended to be and the murders as gruesome.
I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to have a better understanding of the play Macbeth or just want a good drama to watch. This movie is not for the squeemish at certain points, but after these climaxes the movie calms down again. Roman Polanski did a wonderful job.
