The Year of Living Dangerously (1982)
Amazingly horrifying
I thought this was a wonderful, yet disturbing film. THe portrayal of Indonesa was outstanding, and as someone who was there during that time, quit accurate. I loved all of the scenes with Linda Hunt, what a talented actress. It impresses me to this day how well choreographed and acted the scenes with her in the slums are.
Mel and Sigorni did a good job in their romantic relationship, but the movie shined in all of the parts involving the political and human suffering of that nation. All of the minor characters did a superber job, especially the American and British reporters. I also loved the soundtrack, way to go Jarre!
All in all, this is a wonderful film about a terrible time in Indonisa's history. Inteesteing to see the Vietnam era shown in a different country, yet with similar struggles.
Curse of the Starving Class (1994)
Have you read the play?
This message mainly goes out to satisil2. Have you read the play? Nothing happens. That's it. It just goes and goes and goes. . . Not to say I didn't enjoy it, I'm quite a Sam Shepered fan, myself (for a real thrill, watch True West)but that's how his plays are. It's more about the characters than the plot. Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it. Pretty good depiction of the dirt poor (or starving class, as one may call it)
