What We Do in the Shadows (2019)
Very Very Funny. Season 1 Great. Season 2 Even Better!
You can't find shows like this anymore! Thank you FX! I laughed so hard watching every episode of season 2. All of the main characters are very likable and the chemistry among them is insanely good.
The humor and satire in this show on the vampire genre is pretty creative and original. So many laugh out loud moments.
Kudos to FX for continuing to make entertaining shows focusing on characters, story, dialog, humor and originality. Especially in this agenda driven times and networks ruining our fundamental enjoyment of shows & movies with their PC & liberal non-sense.
Chang'an shi er shi chen (2019)
A Stunning Achievement
This an epic 48 episode movie. Story, dialog, cinematography, action sequences, music, intensity, costume, set design, explosions, suspense, drama, acting, character development, all on a stunning level like you have never seen before.
The Chang'an in poet Lee Bai's poems are presented so beautifully on screen here. It's like a time-machine that takes you back to this ancient world to experience all the beauty, culture, joy, sadness, loyalty, and betrayal it has to offer with its heroes, villains, and the in-betweens.
Zhang Xiaojing is a real Tang Dynasty superhero in recorded history. The actor who portrayed him went through major changes from his usual image and style and spent long hours training in combat for the show and did an incredible job.
Those chase/combat scenes intertwined with the outdoors Chang'an Idols showdown were absolutely amazing. The humbling and self-reflecting moments with the emperor were also some of my favorites parts of the story.
When the show is over I felt like I woke up from a beautiful and adventurous dream and yearning to go back to experience it all again.
Into the Night (2020)
One of the worst ending I have ever seen
This show started off interesting and entertaining despite all the plot holes, then it's gradually ruined by all the stereotypes with its multicultural characters and its cliche attempts to be woke with the typical men are dumb and immature but women are all smart and can do no wrong non-sense.
At the end. The Italian soldier, who saved everyone's life in the show, heroically volunteers to stay behind to keep the gates open. But the woman who's suppose to be in charge decided to handcuff him to the gate and left him to die unjustifiably, while she says proudly "I am a leader!". One of the most cringe worthy moment on TV.
This is the same suicidal woman who selfishly abandoned the entire crew during a critical mission so she can go cry in her bed and feel self pity. But the show wants to turn her into a leader while throwing all the logic and reasoning out the door. Woke TV at it's best. And for all of its wokeness, not a single Asian person on the show.
The Last Kingdom (2015)
Best show on Netflix. 3 incredible seasons. 4th not so much.
This is one of my favorite shows. Season 1-3 are absolutely amazing, better than both Vikings and GOT. Utred and his entourage are so much fun to watch. Afred is hands down one of the best characters on TV and the actor really nailed the role. The story twists and turns and never a dull moment. The relationship between Utred and Afred is complex, interesting and well crafted. Action, adventure, history, drama, humor, this show is as entertaining as it gets.
Then comes the highly anticipated season 4. Somewhere in the back of my mind I feared my favorite show might get the woke treatment by Netflix. And it did. Utred is now cast aside in a supporting role. Major screen time now goes to all the female characters. The men are mostly weak and act irrationally. All the women are strong, smart, and can't do no wrong. And we now have black warriors in Babbanburg. Sigtryggr is a great character but was given very little screen time.
One bad season and I still give it a 9. That's how good the show is.
Netflix. We're here to watch Utred. Leave your woke non-sense out of this show. Don't mess up Season 5.
The Strain (2014)
One good season. That's all.
Season 1 is absolutely amazing. Blows of all the other vampire shows out of the water. Edge of your seat intensity from beginning to finish sprinkled with actual scary moments. Some of them Pet Sematary like.
Season 2 is ruined by pointless subplots and a very irritating kid. My god that kid! And the main story did not move forward one bit. Most of this season are fillers. Complete waste of time.
Season 3 started off with some intense actions, but cooled off very quickly, again, by pointless subplots. By now we're seeing flashbacks of supporting characters, completely irrelevant to the main story. And a couple of the main characters now have nothing to do, but the story is constantly being interrupted to give them screen time, so you can watch them sit around, drink alcohol, fluff about nothing, hook up...etc. Fillers, fillers, and more fillers.
This is where I give up. One can only tolerate so much fillers. Don't care what happens anymore.
Extraction (2020)
Finally a Great Action Movie. Not a Single Dull Moment.
This movie is everything you would expect going into it and much more. Very impressed by Chris Hemsworth's action sequences. It's Jason Borne meets John Wick, Call of Duty style. Would love to see CH in the next Mission Impossible movie.
The 12min-long single camera shot was sick. All the supporting roles were great. The most entertaining movie Netflix has put out so far during this PC & girl-power pandemic. Maybe they're beginning to choose entertainment over wokeness. One can only hope.
