Arrow: Fadeout (2020)
What happened to the adult William Clayton?
At the end of the previous episode, the adult William Clayton is abducted in adult Mia's presence. Unlike all of those killed in previous episodes, he never reappears, even though this abduction is a key motivator in the reunion of heroes in the first part of this episode. Instead, the adult MIa winds up resucing the child William Clayton, who is coincidentally abducted shortly after the team is wondering how to find the adult William Clayton. I have some sympathy for all the 10* reviews here, and it isn't the first plot hole in the series, but to end the series with such a gaping plot hole is unworthy.
MindGamers (2015)
Brilliant, engaging, suspenseful!
Visually stunning, thought-provoking, engaging and suspenseful! Beautifully choreographed scenes, with characters who make you want to find out what is going on. The film cultivates an atomosphere of mystery and oscillates between optimism and dread. Of course there are inconsistencies, but if you want to trash a Sam Neill film, have a go at Event Horizon, which is completely incoherent! Why doesn't this even rate half as well as Event Horizon? I can't understant the negative reviews!
Le voleur (1967)
A tragedy, not a comedy
This is a great satire of fin de siecle European society, but satire is not always funny. In fact, this is a tragedy along classic Greek lines, something which only becomes apparent in the final scenes, which give the lie to those critics who accuse Malle of being too sympathetic to his protagonist(s). Some criticize Belmondo's rather flat affect, but I believe that this is intentional, and an essential element of the tragedy. The film is widely recognized as satitirizing the bourgeoisie, but many miss the way it also satirizes the would-be Marxism of some of the protagonists. It is beautifully filmed, with a beautiful, all-star cast. By modern standards, it is a slow film, without much excitement, but it is worth watching, if you have the patience to watch it all the way to the end.
Ekipazh (2016)
Bombastic and implausible
Too painful and unbelievable to watch to its conclusion, despite handsome actors and actresees. The whole premise defies belief. A volcanic island populated by miners and tourists? A scheduled civilian airline flight diverted to pick up survivors? What about the (presumably paying) passengers? Cantilevered runways built across volcanic peaks? Please!!!
