Dune (2021)
Disappointing Misuse of Time
This movie is as rushed as the David Lynch's 1984 adaptation, which is surprising given how long this movie is, and adapting only half of the book.
Let's take The Fellowship of the Ring for example, and imagine how ridiculous it would be if they rushed or simple cut off the formation of the fellowship scene, missing characterization for every member of the fellowship, and Boromir for example was just some dude with no background that you'd think "oh ok he is some dude who can fight and is an asshat, lol".
The subtext, plottings of plans within plans, and dimensions to characters are completely absent, and there is no excuse for it in this version, if instead of spending too much time on scenery and slow scenes for dramatic effect they spent a little more time explaning characters motivations and not cutting an extremely important scene. You won't even know which characters suspect who as everyone has just one defining characteristic that you get at first glance and then you can predict everything.
It is expecially sad given how excellent the sequel is, and would be seen as even greater if the subtext and characters were properly DEVELOPED here, not a bunch of one-dimensional placeholders.
