2016: Obama's America (2012)
"Epic fail" or "what NOT to do when trying to make a point"
Storyline: A documentary that examines the question, "If Barack Obama wins a second term, where will we be in 2016?"
Like hell!!! yeah. right... Well if he did I didn't notice. And
I think I have never seen a WORST piece of cinematography of it's kind. The reporter tried to be psychoanalytic pulling the arguments he invented by hair and stretching to a degree that reached.... the stratosphere!!! He tried to force-feed the words in the mouths of everyone he interviewed to the point of getting single nods as responses to the questions posed. What kind of "journalism" is that? Taking an interview of someone that says only "yes"? That is a style of tactics to be followed in front of a jury and not even like this - some people who were fairly cultivated like Obama's half brother were just asking him in response "you are kidding me now eh?". For Goodness sake they spent more time analyzing "the Kenyan Peasant Grandmother effect" as a factor for the delay of energy related projects than the environmental parameters that actually WERE THERE IN PAPER and yet gone absolutely unreferenced!!! That shows the kind of Environmental awareness promoted by the creator : it is the family environment we are interested people - not the "other one" our opponents focus on.
This film was definitely made and meant to be a strong political comment. In my little book it is an EPIC FAIL on that part. The flick - it started as an anti-Obama documentary (clearly) yet it ended being a praise for him. It showed that he overcame his dragons and succeeded where dozens of spouses of former presidents and their clones failed. Now how stupid is this? At a level of criticism I think my 10 year old son can do better actually. This reporter (bless his soul) was NOT smarter than a fifth grader.
Tha kind of research done was more like a PI investigation on the roots of someone that a dubious mafia father would have done for the future son in law. That is the cinematic metaphor for it. Why would someone be anti-American by virtue if he comes from abroad? If I remember correctly one of the greatest prides and the Founder of American Opera was Kurt Weill - a German who came here to stay in the 50s.
I think this film is a collectible piece of the thing we usually leave in a toilet that should actually be taught in schools of literature and creative writing and film as a brilliant and comprehensive example of "what NOT to do when trying to make a point".
I strongly believe that it came out in in the movie theaters at this point in the same manner that someone trows a bag of stones on a sidewalk as if some sort of Public Works site is going to be set for the time and the next morning a street fight begun and - what a wonderful surprise indeed! - so much good ammunition is there!!! The point is I can not tell if this was good but it is definitely subtle (just reading all these people saying what a good journalism that piece of "pie" was illustrates my point perfectly) and I have learned to be more afraid of the stupid than the smart in this life...
You should DEFINITELY watch it if you are fan of the genre - your life is not gonna be the same after this
PS. And listen.... DO NOT read the book! It is even more... promising of meaningful nonsense than the research that was focused on grandmothers etc...
The Passaic Textile Strike (1926)
Rediscovered PASSAIC TEXTILE STRIKE footage
When the NYU Tamiment Library acquired the Communist Party USA collection in 2006, a few hundred reels of films came with it. The librarians' initial inventory led to a significant find: a nitrate print of The Passaic Textile Strike (1926), a storied film sponsored by International Workers Aid to convey labor's perspective on the strike by mill workers in New Jersey. However, only an incomplete version was known to exist, with 2 reels lost. Those reels were found.
The deteriorating nitrate went to the Library of Congress, which had previously preserved the other 5 reels. George Willeman is working to salvage as much of the rediscovered footage as possible. George will tell us more at Orphans 6. Meanwhile, you are here among the first to see these samples of PASSAIC footage he has been able to rescue. (Courtesy of LOC and Tamiment Library.)

Flatland (2007)
How soon is Flatterland coming out then????
flatland has always been a magic book for me, as math itself although I was never VERY good at it. My average ability as an engineer to comprehend the mysteries of both the world of science and the social sphere, were given a true boost with this magic allegory. I purchased the film two times so far, one for my husband and one for a friend, and each time I watched it it revealed something new. The animation, I find it superb and the storytelling brilliant. Just brilliant.
I only wish there were subtitles to it, as English is not my mother tongue and I struggled enormously at first with all these terms and the peculiar accents. I shall definitely jump to buy the subtitled edition too when it comes out! Not to mention I am truly looking forward to the sequel!!! Flatterland - my last summer reading I mean. How does this sound Sir Ladd?
