Really really awful
1 March 2022
This formulaic adventure story doesn't have one laugh and possesses only three moments of actual entertaining action. This film is a great example of what's wrong with Hollywood these days. They've got the formula, I walked in expecting to be underwhelmed but I thought i would get a couple of cool sequences and a couple of cheap laughs. That's what I wanted, or expected, rather. The formula is right there! How could they miss the mark by so far??? I like Marky Mark normally and the kid is starting to grow on me but this is NIC CAGE LEVEL BAD. STAY AWAY AND DEAR GOD DO NOT DOLE OUT ANY ACTIAL MONEY ON THIS PIECE OF-oh and I'm out of time.

This woman is so 'the problem'!!
5 September 2021
This is disgraceful. Perfect example of what's wrong with Hollywood and why you should cut off your cable and start just using streaming services because idiots like this actually still get their own TV shows. I'm ashamed to say that she came from me to you but she came from YouTube making videos for children- slight difference there! Pathetic host no riters.

I Complain A Lot But This Wasn't So Baf
8 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Slow start with this one, the first 7 minutes felt like 20. I think The filmmakers are trying to show you how much red tape they have to go through before they actually initiate a bust. Me? I couldn't care less. Finally some (I think) French dudes show up with copious amounts of drugs. Now we're getting somewhere but wait. We have to stop at the liquor store first! Then bam! We are in what looks like a empty stripper joint. And the (6 keys!) drug deal is suddenly taking place. Arturo Castro just rolls up in the scene, always good to see him. Arturo says he can only do three keys, tops, and he has to go get most of it. Things go south quick, the racial slurs begin and poor Arturo gets killed. The cops surrounding the building all speed off and our obvious by now lead, Joel Kinneman, gets outta that scene unscathed. He goes to a dive bar for a drink.

Next we learn Joel's real name is Piotr and also that he has this (Russian?) boss, Mr Klimek. He quickly proves himself to be diabolical. I don't know if this guy is a judge in his country or what but he sends him to the big-house for a five year stretch.

But he doesn't go to jail, he goes to this cutie's house, Anna is her daughter's name, didn't catch her name but she literally cleans him up and we finally meet some new characters. Common, for one, is the lead investigator. We follow him from some crime scene then stops the city that mean nada.

Then more exposition I guess, I call it filler but the cutie either was or became his wife by the Time we have a dinner party outside of the generals house with Carmen across the street watching with his badge and gun. Then we go to jail finally, I guess he just had a few days to him wrap things up. Most of the prison staff remember him. Prison, as one might suspect, is not too much fun. But we dont have to stay there too long. After all we still have to introduce Clive Owen! Common's not a fan of ole' Clive and tells him off. Clive: he doesn't say a word. So some other typical stuff happens, he gets jumped, someone gives him a shiv and this group of brothers lynch him up for dead (in the Church!) but these three or four guys saved him, for some reason, right after he admitted he was a snitch!! Bunch of stuff happens, most of inconsequential until he manages a phone call to cutie in her blue fish shop. Per fish, not like on the docks and stuff. Cutie sells the tapes to Rosamund Pike (she made her uneventful entrance a few scenes ago). Joel picks a fight with this white jailhouse dude so that he can get to the authorities so he can at least find someone who can contact his department head. So they know he's really a cop, remember? Hard to be sure you're following this, I sure had a hard time mapping out ALL the (mostly un-needed) plot-points. I'm being harsh because this is a pretty good script with fine actor, the editors don't really consistently build the pace. It had many long, un-needed chunks, including several dialogue scenes! The ending is arbitrary and predictable but over all, I didn't NOT have a pod time. Six Stars!!!

So little with so much!
1 July 2021
This cast alone should have us all drooling in actors-bliss, but with this script we are on the near verge of crying rather than showing any other kind of emotion. There wasn't really a lot for the actors (Or Stephen Soderberg) to grasp onto because the script was so, so weak. A couple of them did their best: Benicio Del Toro held his own as he always does and Don Cheadle is there and he pulls out a pretty respectable performance from thin air, but when you see the cast list for this movie you're gonna think I'll my God all this talent!! Sorry but, well a lot of these guys left your talents at home for the shoot they. Apparently they just didn't give a hoot for whatever reason.

I bite my tongue as I say that I'm still going to recommend you watch it, I'll give it six of the stars so that means it was better than the average film and if anything else it's kind of fun to watch these super talented actors try to sludge their way through this mercilesd, molasses on morphine paced script!!

StartUp: Recapitalization (2016)
Season 1, Episode 10
9/10
RECAPITALIZATION
16 May 2021
Isabelle's sister is getting married today, but our female lead can't focus on anything. Especially a silly wedding. Her still developing start-up is beginning to look less and less promising.

Meanwhile Ron is with all his homies to collect 4.5 million but the case the mad-sexy older woman brings is 1.5 light. Not much Ron can do but take her at her word that the rest is on the way but Ron's friends think that's a weak move on their part. But Ron knows what he's doing; you can see it in his posture & eyes.

After the wedding & after the party, Izzy is greeted by Nick on the beach. She tries to explain the current predicament to Nick but he doesn't seem to grasp the severity of the whole ordeal. They start a fight which rather typically turns into a violent kissing session that leads to romantic sex. Only in the movies!!

Next Ron tries, rather feebly, to connect with the son on the basketball court. But the son has obviously had enough, heard a lifetime of lies, and he's especially upset about Ron being apparently showed up by the sexy older woman in the alley. The boy is mad confused, & Rom says some great fatherly advice & by the scene's end they are hugging and sniffling. Suddenly, Izzy and Nick show up at the court to try and get Ron back on the team. He doesn't say anything, but you know he's in.

Big pseudo-ending has Rask meet up with the gang at a bar and Izzy gives him a flash drive with everything on it. He acts like his machismo driven big dog self until they pull out the tape with him talking to his hacker and he hears himself say some pretty naughty and incriminating stuff.

Next, we check in with the people who actually stole GenCoin who are having fruit on a luxurious patio and talking shop until Officer Rask (Freeman) arrives to pretty blatantly blackmail their leader, this cool Asian hipster.

Some serious stuff happens here but i don't want to step into spoiler terrain. This one was one of the better ones, i will and can say that!

White Sands (1992)

fantastic movie kinda ruined by Amazon
8 May 2021
This is a fantastic thriller from the early 90s with Willem Dafoe in the lead role. It has an incredible cast: Mickey Rourke (post 80s, but not yet all beaten to hell by life and boxing), Samuel Jackson, Elizabeth Mastrantonio, James Rebhorn, Beth Grant, Miguel Sandoval, Maura Tierney, & M. Emmet Walsh! This is clear cut noir drama, no shortcuts or cheap laughs, just solid actors having a blast with a solid script. ONE THING: It's currently available on Amazon Prime and for some unknown, ungodly reason they have muted out every single curse word! It really takes away from the film and it's super distracting. The dialogue will just disappear for three quarters of a second while you watch Dafoe and Rourke cuss their little hearts out. I guess I must admit, after a short while, I found myself in a killing myself by trying to figure out what cuss words they were meeting out. Most actors a pretty good diction and you can tell but that Defoe, he's a mumbler! I've never seen anything like this done to a film of quality before; even on regular, ancient, pre-cable TV let alone the self-proclaimed awesomeness of Amazon Pime!! It's revolting and will ruin the film for some. Still worth watching. 8 outta 10! Stars!!

Trickster: Episode #1.4 (2020)
Season 1, Episode 4
10/10
"The Land Screams in Pain"
12 February 2021
This was a great episode! God, I hope this show doesn't get cancelled or, more likely, overlooked. First off we find Jared all screwed up mentally and emotionally about finding out that his Mom is a witch. Wade told him the Trickster gene skips generations so, at the moment, he's at least not worried about that. At home, the power is out, no surprise since Mom's been missing 'on a bender' for several days. Cut to the bush, where Mom is hanging with her mentor/witch friend. She texts him, to check-in and let him know she's okay. Next we check in with Wade at a very clean strip club. Georgina puts him in his place (& out of consciousness!). Then we join Jared and Sarah, where she tells him she's attempted suicide at least once. He tells he is cool with all that by kissing her and the lightning bugs appear again, taking them to the woods where they are suddenly in their undies!! We're lured then into a creepy and thankfully short nightmare of Jared's. This is the halfway mark. Act two has Wade making a gruesome discovery in some blonde dude's trailer & he's got a 2nd surprise for Wade! Georgina and Edna, with their scarred faves, next show up at the trailer to ask Wade if his son is also a Trickster. Before he can answer, though, Wade just blank-stared his way out of the trailer and down the road/trail. One of the scarred girls says he's got a spell on him, and she's excited because "it looks like we found ourselves a witch!". Maggie, the mom, let's us know she's killed Wade multiple times before and the script hints that they're all over 500 years old. Towards the end, everybody (Wade, the 2 witches, the blonde dude, the 3 scarred up ladies and Jared and his chubby friend) meets up and all hell breaks loose. Jared has a major transformation, his suddenly black eyes finally confirming he's definitely Wade's child.

There's a last scene that you just have to see to believe. This is a ten star episode, hands down!! It's all about that crazy ending!! You just gotta see it! Watch it now!

Not Amazon
6 February 2021
First off, this is on Netflix, NOT ANAZON PRIME! So, this great little low-budget follow the bad-guys movie has an amazing performance from relatively unknown Bennie Safdie. Robert Pattinson leads with relative ease a killer cast including the always awesome Jennifer Jason Leigh. The movie starts off with a pretty intense energy and doesn't really let up. I highly recommend it if you like crime capers at all.

Can't really be honest
17 December 2020
Can't really be honest with my review (2 stars) (outta 10) because I turned off this atrocity about twenty minutes in. Now I'm a Sandler fan, and I'm aware that means every couple or third film is gonna be a LITTLE NICKY. But this was so horrendous from the get-go, i couldn't stomach it. So I can't say this movie is bad because I really didn't give it a fair shake, but I'm pretty confident as an avid film watcher that my 20 minutes of evaluation, ultimately leading me to abort ship. I'm gonna watch The Take. Wish me luck. Yeah so DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR BRAIN CELLS with this piece of pigeon poop of a movie.

Teenage Bounty Hunters: What's a Jennings (2020)
Season 1, Episode 2
6/10
Quick 2nd Act!!
16 October 2020
We start off with our teenage bounty hunters late for church! Frantic their mom will be p.o.'ed if they are late, they indeed arrive to the service late, but Mom seems fine with it. You get the feeling they are late often...

Soon they're back scooping ice cream at the new job with Bowser (their mentor bounty hunter, even though he's unaware of that fact so far!).

Seems like the rest of the first act takes place at the ice-cream shop.

Except for the cringe-worthy scene where Sterling admits that the found used condom wrapper was hers. This scene reminds we are still in high school as everyone just starts to meanly laugh, as if a lesser classman had just tripped and dropped his lunch tray all over the cafeteria's main walkway.

Okay this films not memorable
6 October 2020
Even with the little gimp monkey boy, I can tell you that right off the bat!! Truly don't really remember watching it until about the 40 minute mark and then bits and pieces dislodge from my memory banks and I remember, I think it has a crazy, horror movie type ending that obviously really irked me as I rated it a 3. That is a low freakin' score for me. Here's the gist of what I remember: the "intruders" are really just orange jumpsuit clad versions of the family, doppelgängers: mom, dad, son & daughter. Kind of a great set-up and pretty comfy place by the 50 minute mark but that's sadly where things start to fall apart. The orange family is, well, to put it bluntly, crazy psychotic. They work like a team. You can prolly guess where we go from here...no spectacular ending, just some hard earned credit roll. Was a 3, 2nd watch, give it a 6.

The School Nurse Files: Episode #1.2 (2020)
Season 1, Episode 2
8/10
No More Gree Worm
29 September 2020
So we start with this giant green worm which quickly explodes into hearts. You read that right. Exploded into thousands of little colored hearts. Got that, then we go to the roof with the nurse and all the students. If you watched the pilot, you'll remember the frozen guys. Well, they all melt at about twelve minutes in. It's not gross or anything they just sort of, well, melt or liquidy dissolve I guess. Point us, they're all gone. We cut to the nurse who's at home watching the news report the incident as she tapes up all ten of her finger/rhumb tips(?). Soon she realizes she's the only one who saw the green worm, and of course that means the jelly creatures and red virus balls were all just her hallucinations. This leaves her pretty distressed. The rest of the episode is basically just about our nurse trying to figure out what makes the jellies tick. They think it has something to do with hair. Then the nurse is with a couple of students learning knots. Also, there's a group of kids who break into a neighboring school to assuminglybstesl seat cushions, but one male thief-it's an all girls school-gets caught by one of the sleeping female students. When she wakes she starts screaming and pointing, and sooner than soon there are 40 or 45 girls screaming and pointing. Then it's the next day and we're back knots. Then there's the brutal "test taking" sequence, which really pulls you back to those scan-tron days and the tension in test-taking in general.

Slowly earns an 8
13 August 2020
The first twenty minutes are pretty slow while the horribly obvious exposition was doled out by helpless actors. But after that it has its pace picked up with the arrival of the quirky and always impressive Richard Harmon, as Kirk Lane. But it's Bella Thorne who takes the lead with this one and she really shows she's got serious chops, beside dazzling beauty. The camera loves her! She plays Bella a mildly dressed punk with let's just say a very progressive outlook on life.

So anyway the plot trudged on for another 10 seemingly unneeded minutes or so until we finally meet Mrs. Calder who adds a little spice to the mix. Played by Amy Price-Francis, Mrs. Calder brings the creep factor in with even more, somewhat haunting backstory.

Oh I think I forgot to mention an important factor. Did I tell you that this was 10 years after some huge apocalyptic event and most of humanity is destroyed and it's kind of forgettable (unbelievable?) There seem to be lots of humans left and no real chaos whatsoever. They're still going to high-school b'ball games in Pack gymnasiums. But I suppose that will come in to play as the movie unfolds slowly as it is.

They call the ghostly apparitions, that seem to come and go as they please, forever looping the usually mundane task over and over, Rems. I forget why. They explained it but it didn't stick. At 40 minutes I was thinking of checking out. At 45 it got pretty bleeping interesting like out of nowhere!

So there's this no-go-zone, right? This is obviously like forbidden to enter. There are some murders we find out about through more, yes more exposition!! Coming in 15 minutes with more exposition. Anyway, that basically catapult them into said no-go-zone. Which, turns out is filled with rems. Remnants!! That's why they call 'em rems!!

By 58 minutes I had given in. When they incorporated the Great Chicago Fire. For sure not the best syfy film to ever come out, but even though it had a kinda crazy slow beginning, it turned out to be pretty damn good. It was interesting to watch even if the dialogue was bulky and choppy and the beginning was sort of slow, I highly recommend this one. Budget constraints keep it at a 8, but that's pretty high. Only for syfy fans. 8 outta 10!!

Sloppy Art
7 August 2020
Arliss Howard has GOT 2 BE ONE OF THE MOST UNDER-RATED ACTORS to ever give an honest shot at tackling the silver screen. He masters and mutates within every role, making it seem as if he & only he could've of played (nailed) that particular rolr. Be it BIG BAD LOVE or WILDER NAPALM or his INCREDIBLE take on the war in Kubrick s phenomenal FULL METAL JACKET!! His work alone should have you hunting down this unknown gem right now let alone all the other exceptional performances from some great talent early in their careers. I won't tell you the supporting cast so's you could be as pleasantly surprised as I was while watching the film's opening credits. You should watch everything Howard's done. Why not start here. This is one of his rare funny films. 9 stars and I'm not being generous. This is a wild film. Hot!!!

Pretty solid syfy flick
22 July 2020
Now that I've finished. This ended up being a pretty solid syfy flick. Uber low budget, but the director doesn't allow that to hold him back the way some other (most) directors would (do) (it). (predictable it's not, but really impressive for what I imagine started as a web series. As a filmmaker myself, I know how hard what this director did. Add all that to an original, wonderfully cruel and beautiful ending that makes me give 'em a high 8. This episode and the series as a whole.

Low Budget Doesn't Stop This Well Done Gem
22 July 2020
At first, I'll admit that I was excited about the 12 and 13 Run-times for each of (the only) 6 episodes. It says here on IMDb that it was filmed in '15....& each short episode doesn't really seem to have a beginning or an ending that would qualify these as "a 6-part " series. It really feels like just a regular movie with maybe 1 theoretical episode-ending-moment.

But I digress. This is absolutely a good little low-budget film. A young cast handles the sometimes bulky script with ease. I was entertained from episode one on, I was just, I'll admit, distracted by the lengths given and where they 'officially' end and start episodes. I was trying to rate each episode, they're so short at all, but by episode 4 I was absolutely lost as to where I was episode wise. It probably seems petty and it probably is but it's my dang review so I'm giving you my honest experience. It was strangely a (kinda small) issue.

24 May 2020
I don't know what's wrong with people rating this episode so low (1s &.2s??!?!?). Really? A friggin' 1?? Come on! Everyone saying nothing happens in this episode. Lots of stuff happens, I can't go into what but trust me, a lot of character development plus the story really arcs amidst this episode. Okay so it's not bullet and drug fueled. My only beef is the heavy handed religious mumbo jumbo coming out of several characters mouths. I gave it an 8......1! Sheesh!!

This show ruled!!
22 May 2020
This was a great show. I can't believe it didn't get a 2nd season. The only thing I can reason out is it came out simultaneously With HBO's VINYL. Both set in the rock scene they got billed together in a lot of minds but they are totally different vehicles: VINYL was strung out, Coke fueled and ALL over the place while ROADIES was a fun loving look at stadium rock in the modern era. More comedy than anything else, it had it all: surprise modern musical numbers, recurring guest spots from the likes of Ron White, just to drop one name. ROADIES was robbed and not marketed at ALL. It's a shame, at the time it was the show I most enjoyed and most looked forward to every week. I couldn't believe VINYL sucked and I can't believe ROADIES wasn't loved by the masses!!! Holly-Weird. You never can tell or predict. Crazy, man.

Great low budget syfy
8 March 2020
I don't know why this film has such a low score of 3.5. I am a hard-core sci-fi fan and I found it quite engaging. It wasn't the best thing on the lot by any stretch but it did introduce some interesting ideas and then had the audacity to actually answer them within the same film! Truly innovative! You have to remember that this is a low budget film. Yeah the FX aren't amazing but The actors performances are and that plus a good script with a decent ending is I should really be asking for for sci-fi film these days. I'll give it a seven and it's on Netflix right now.

Ouch....acting so bad it hurts.
25 February 2020
I don't know how this ever got green-lit. I have no idea if the story is any good or not because the dialogue is blatantly artificial and wooden and the acting!!!! Wooo-boy it's bad. I turned this bad boy off at 13 1/2 minutes. No joke.

And btw I LOVE bad movies. This tho, it's just self indulgent garbage. I hope the director reads this review so he can find a new profession. There are lots of young directors out there who could direct pants of this wannabe punk who gives low budget film making such a bad reputation. I'm angry I wasted the 15 minutes I did on this film. I'm mad that it got made and I'm infuriated these guys get work!! Oh I see now it's written by the cast; never a good sign!!
