Homegrown (2021)
Same Thing Every Episode
I want so bad to like this show. The premise is great, a family wants to have veggies in their yard and jamila comes in with her team to make that happen while teaching us all about plants. Sounds great to me.
Unfortunately it seems like Jamila isnt knowledgeable or charismatic enough to carry the show on her own. What happens is we are forced to learn a bunch of uninteresting things about the family who are obviously forced to say the things they say. So much focus on the kids is so forced too.
From the multiple episodes i watched, we get the same solution / layout of the yards. "Ok, we're going to add some IRRIGATION!!!! And some RAISED BEDS!!! And ill bring in my GOATS!!" Same thing everytime. Skip this show.
Tulsa King (2022)
Wow
This show is so bad it made it almost watchable. Something stupid happens in every scene in every single episode. The dialog is laughable and filled with swearing for no reason.
A 75 year old man fist-fighting people is just so silly. Stallone can hardly turn his head let alone do anything remotely athletic. He's also a terrible actor.
One of the first scenes in the show is Dwight somehow intimidating the intelligent owner of a marijuana dispensary who seems to also be the most gullable person on earth. For some reason we are supposed to side with Dwight and think he's so noble for stealing part of this guys business. Its so cringe and cliche. I could go on and on. Yes, I did watch the entire season.
I grew up with and love mafia / crime movies and shows but this is a total disaster. I don't understand the high rating. Yuck.
Life & Beth (2022)
Uh, Okay..
This show actually started out funny for the first few episdoes but abruptly changed the tone. Its almost like a second team of writers came in. The show spirals out of control into a twist that ends up a non-twist and just general goofiness. I dont know what this was. Pass.
Better (2020)
Awkward
This documentary is one of the worst ive ever seen. They do reenactments with horrible actors for no reason when the actual subjects could just be interviewed. The entire doc seemed like some ego boost for the main guy. The whole tag phrase is silly. Nothing is new. You could sum up the main points in 2-3 sentences. Eat veggies. Dont eat carbs and sugar. Zzzzzz.
I rated this 2/10 because the ego on the main guy is so huge is comical. Its so bad it turns back to good. He starts crying throughout the movie because he figured out carbs are bad. OK i'll stop.
The Undoing (2020)
First Half Was OK
The first 4 or so episodes were great. Who did it? But the ending, my goodness. All of the sudden hugh grant's character is some monster. The finale has zero twists or anything interesting. The helicopter chase was one of the biggest WTF moments I've seen in any show recently. Nicole Kidman's frozen-unmoving botox face is so distracting throughout the show its almost comical. I couldn't stop commenting on it whenever her giant face was onscreen.
I guess I was expecting an interesting twist. But there was none. Snoozer.
Queen & Slim (2019)
Not Good
After watching a great trailer I was excited to watch this. But very quickly while watching the movie I was shocked at how many 'why the hell are they doing that' moments there are. A lawyer acting totally irrationally, people on the run stopping to go to a bar, handing a gun over to someone you are trying to rob... I made it half way through.
Not. Good.
Defending Jacob (2020)
Deadfaced World
The first episode had me hooked. But every subsequent episode was worse and worse. I stuck around to see what actually happens and was thoroughly dissapointed. Every actor has zero emotion, very robotic. The dad is a high level lawyer and starts FIGHTING another lawyer. Okkaayyyy.... Each character acts in odd ways and keeps secrets for no apparent reason. Why cant the kid actually tell someone what really happened? Whats with the girl? and the 'evil' friend? The pedophile storyline was so ridiculous. Who was the druggie kid Jacob's dad goes to see? What the heck did i just watch?
Cinematography was great though.
