The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
It was either too good, or too bad...
Well, the first 45 mins to an hour was boring. I looked at my watch to see it was about an hour into it, when it started to get good...I think.
The reason I say, I think, is because it was either so far above my immediate comprehension of depth that it was too good for one viewing and will take multiple viewings to understand the depth in which it was trying to reach.
Somehow I doubt it.
I think it really was just babbling and trying to reach some philosophical depth that just wasn't there. It tried, and failed, in all honesty. It is too bad, because the first one started with such promise and excitement. This one. Not so much. It kind of squandered the dream.
5/10
Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)
And you all call yourselves Star Trek Fans?
And you all call yourselves Star Trek Fans?
I loved it. Sure, it isn't American Beauty, or the next Oscar movie. But it was great. The Star Trek story progressed and the ending was beautiful. I love all the Star Trek movies. No, they weren't all masterpieces, but why should they be? I love them for the characters, for the larger story they tell. The acting was excellent, the story was above par, the action was excellent. It was a great story, and well worth my time. I will go see it again. I hope that Paramount includes all the scenes that were cut on the DVD release, with the option of including it into the flow of the movie. The only criticism I might have would be it seemed a bit chopped up. I do find it slightly offensive that now that most movies come out over 2 hours for some reason the Paramount crew decided Star Trek fans were incapable of handling more. I wanted more. I think it would have told the better.
MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW
Data has attempted from the very beginning of the series to be human. He would have "given it all up to be human." And by giving his life to save his friends on the Enterprise was the most human thing anyone could have done. It was a tremendous ending to this movie. In reality, it was a nice beginning of other movies that I look forward to seeing.
Star Trek: Generations (1994)
Despite Bad Press, Excellent Story in the Trek Saga
This movie has been given a log of flack for not being what a lot of people had hoped it to be. After watching it again, I realized what an amazing movie this was. It tied in so many thing and had so much in it. It was a great send off for the new crew of the Enterprise in the movie industry. As an avid fan of Star Trek, I would not have been happy had it not been as good as it was. For those of you who slam it, I guess you are neither a fan, nor one who enjoys this genre, and if that is the case, I guess you shouldn't be watching it in the first place, because it was not meant for you.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Maybe I missed something while searching for something on the floor to slit my wrist!
I was taken to a midnight showing of the first Lord of the Rings movie. Like having sex for 3 hours with no orgasm I was completely disappointed. The movie was eye candy to behold. The scenery and the amazing special affects were stunning. I have not read the books, and frankly, I don't want to now. I was so bored. I almost began to cry. I felt trapped in a movie which went from one foe to the next...to the next....to the next....to the next.....to the next....to the next.....to the next....and on and on and on, so long that when the main character noted "I wish the ring had never found me," I agreed. As the movie progressed different foes and challenges popped up as though they just magically appeared--Oh look we are stuck in these frigid mountains, no where to go.......it is OH so cold....what do we do? Oh, I know, lets take these mines here that just conveniently randomly appeared! If you've read the books, you might enjoy the closeness, as I hear it has. However, if you haven't...don't bother. It is TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO long...TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO boring....and TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO plotless....and all this, for 3 hours and 10 minutes...and then, then THEN!!! NOTHING!!!!! Wait until you can set aside 9 hours and watch them all at once, then at least it might be slightly rewarding.
The Tailor of Panama (2001)
Boring, confusing, waste of my time.
Every once in a while, while watching this movie, I was thinking, "Oh, here we go, it is finally going to get moving in a direction that makes sense." It didn't. It would suddenly switch directions, and not in a good way. It was almost switching genre's at a moments notice, from trying to be funny, to trying to be a spy thriller, to being just plain stupid.
Now, I know some people have commented that if you are "unintelligent" you won't understand the movie. I am about to graduate with a degree in History and Political Science. While I understood the basic concept of the history of this region the movie surrounded nothing of the sort and was still worthless in any sort of educational sense.
The acting was so-so, the plot was bleh, the scenery was okay, the concept was bleh. Don't waste your time.
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Beautiful, heart-wrenching fairy-tale, on a high social scale.
With Kubrick-like images and Spielberg storytelling A.I. become a beautiful piece of eye and brain candy that leaves the viewer in awe. Once the viewer accepts this movie as a new-age fairy tale with underlying social commentary with massive ethical implications, rather than a story of fact based on fairy tale images, you are guaranteed to not only enjoy, but love this piece of art. With an ending which could have come about maybe 30 minutes before the actual end, but what was added was a beautiful and haunting, if you don't cry or feel your heart wrenching you should check your pulse for any signs of life.
Evolution (2001)
Has Movie Making Taken a Step Back in Evolution?
I was excited to see this movie. The previews made it look like it could be a funny, Men in Black sort of thing. It wasn't. It was S T U P I D! The jokes were forced and misplaced. They were old and rehashed jokes from movies before. The plot was extremely predictable, and lame. The acting was rather poor, and the characters were poorly developed and not very likable.
I will admit I laughed a couple of times. One being when Prof. Block was getting sucked up the anus of the large creature at the end. Sick, yes, but funny. But to wait through 2 hours of stupidity to get to that? NOT WORTH IT.
Overall I was entertained by the visual effects, and the fun creatures they created. But, it just wasn't worth it. I'm glad it was a preview that I paid nothing for, or I would have been demanding my money back!
