Deviates too much from the book
3 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It is probably impossible to create a good Dune movie, as the book(s) are really complex in many ways. With that said, the first movie captured the essence of Dune as well as you could and kept true to the plot for the most part.

This second movie, however, kills some characters and dynamics. Why is Stilgar only a comedic relief? Why did they decide to leave Alia, one of the most important characters in the books, out of the movie? Why is the relationship between Chani and Paul so shallow? They even left out that they had a son that died. The ending scene is underwhelming and is not in line with Paul from the books.

If you're willing to ignore these issues, or you have never read the books at all, this is still a GREAT movie, but the authentic Dune experience still remains Frank Herbert's book.

The writers completely lost the plot.

Warning: Spoilers
Daniel Craig's movies are supposedly taking place before any other movies - save for skyfall, which can be considered as a standalone movie. It is in Casino Royale where he gets his 00 status, meets Felix Leiter. Then they show Vesper's grave, which clearly says she died in 2006, which would mean the cold war took place some time after that date. But then Felix Leiter and Blofeld both die, but they have already died, or suffered career-ending injuries in previous movies.

Also, how does one make a bio-weapon without developing a cure first? But even then, it is a weapon that instantly kills people who contact it with their skin, and the solution to ending the threat posed to the world is to launch an airstike to blow up the factory? That would vaporize all the fluid which would then be carried all over the world, and then contact the people in danger.

The movie also perfectly portrays how diluted the newer Bond movies are; were they named 'action movie #781' they would make for good standalone movies. But these are James Bond movies we are talking about, and there's really no connection to the original character - except when he's with Madeleine, where it instantly switches to the other end of the spectrum. ('I work for the British Government' vs 'I kill people' is a good way to describe the differences between any other Bond and Daniel Craig's Bond)

Also, there was little to no point behind Safin's actions, the rivalry for the number 007 was annoying, they didn't make the best of the locations, a lot of dialogues were tedious and frustating, I don't even have the faintest clue why Obruchev was doing what he was doing and why was Q in charge of carrying out the operation.
