Don't Look Up (2021)
Against the power of the all-powerful billionaires
I found this film very intelligent, one of the few that denounces the elites who take a malicious pleasure in hijacking individual freedom (internet and social networks) to drown the real news in the middle of "fake".
A film that is good because it is intelligent, funny, with sublime actors, and finally because it takes the defense of the weakest who can only suffer against the power of the all-powerful billionaires.
Band of Brothers (2001)
Too "American" for me
Sorry but for me one of the only "realistic" wars depicted in a movie is in 1917.
Here, the soldiers seem fresh, never tired of carrying 10 kg on their backs while jumping around, and not even sad to see their dead comrades (episode 2).
Having been a soldier myself, this doesn't seem to me to be realistic at all and doesn't convey enough THE FEAR felt (and the disgust).
In short, too American for me.
Maigret: Maigret et la nuit du carrefour (1992)
Maigret drawing his pistol and shoot repeatedly like a cowboy
This episode is interesting for two reasons:
- On the one hand, one observes once again the clear-sightedness with which Georges Simenon (the writer at the origin of Maigret) depicts the world of night, especially the prostitutes. What accuracy!
- On the other hand it is the first time since the beginning of the series that we see Maigret draw his pistol and shoot repeatedly like a cowboy!
It's quite astonishing. Let's not say, after seeing this episode, that Maigret doesn't like action! All the actors are right in this episode, as in all the series besides ! I love it.
Maigret (1991)
The reality is in the darkness and filth depicted by this series
An excellent detective series for any nation, and yet I've seen a lot of them, ancient or modern.
Quickly, what differentiates this Maigret 1991 from other detective series is the atmosphere, the weightlessness and above all the reality that sticks to the skin of this universe.
Maigret is a gruff bear, certainly, but he has the gift of empathy: he loves people (even delinquents) and that can be seen on the screen.
Everyone has a chance with him: he takes his time to live with them, to live in the dirt, to live in the filth of this world in which he appears like a breath of air.
I like Bruno Cremer in this series because he is both human and the God of this world.
I'm more than tired of the series that we see too often in videos on demand, in which the houses don't have an ounce of dust, in which everything is smooth, all the actors are beautiful and all the investigations are solved with DNA.
No, that's not the truth.
The truth, the reality, is rather in the darkness and filth depicted by this series.
For me, it is masterful.
Maigret: Maigret et la grande perche (1991)
A realistic and psychological investigation
Bruno Cremer has a definite charisma and the investigation is all in depth.
This makes a big difference from the American investigations where the cop wins by doing a flip-flop and shooting a gun.
Here we are dealing with a real and very realistic investigation (except when we see a gendarme giving the police commissioner the answer: in France the gendarmerie and the police are two totally different services).
Second inconsistency: the search warrant. This does not exist in France! It is typically American.
For the rest, it's very gratifying to "get into" the heads of the characters in this way. Thank you and see you next time for the other episodes !
Maigret: Maigret Sets a Trap (2016)
Interesting and well done
Too bad the series ended after 4 episodes. What happened? Lack of trust from the production ? Yet Rowan Atkinson assures and the stories do not lack interest. I think that the audience is mature for this kind of realistic detective film.
Only one flaw: the set doesn't really look like Paris...
