Frygtelig lykkelig (2008)
Not very good
I just rented the DVD the other night and was really excited. I had been looking forward to this film for a long time because of all the good reviews it had received..
I was deeply disappointed. You can tell the main plot instantly, the characters are stale and not lovable at all. There isn't really any great attempts on humor in the film and the pace is very very slow.
There are so many other movies about small local communities in all genres (Needful Things, Sleepy Hollow, Italiensk for Begyndere (DK), Hot Fuzz, the TV-show League of Gentlemen etc.) and Frygtelig Lykkelig is just not up to par.
I'm sorry to say I can't recommend this movie.
Try these Danish movies instead. They are guaranteed to make you laugh:
Blinkende Lygter, En Kort En Lang, Grev Aksel, De Grønne Slagtere, I Kina Spiser De Hunde
If you do watch this movie however, it will leave you with many unanswered questions and a feeling of unfulfillment and disappointment.
Partus (2006)
Worldclass
"Partus" is the Latin word for when a child gets separated from it's mother at birth.
The film portraits a mother having trouble cutting the invisible umbilical cord from her son.
Munch-Fals has yet again outdone himself with this short-film. The social-realistic angle works great with the storyline and doesn't wrap anything in.
The minimalistic dialog let's you digest the sights and sounds just the way Mikkel intended you to.
This film won a Robert for best short-film 2007. During the ceremony, it was said that some movies are perfectly made for the short format and Partus is a great example on that.
The movie is perfectly balanced and touches you deep in different emotioncentres.
5 out of 5 hats and 9 out of 10 stars from me
Ynglinge (2006)
Great short-film that leaves you sitting with a strange feeling
This movie tells a short and subtle story about three youngsters journey through their sexual orientation. The first thing that struck me about this movie, was the way that it has been filmed. Munch-Fals isn't in a hurry to tell his story and provides us with carefully shot stills, which allows us to dwell within the images and thoughts of the individuals, adding a good overall realistic aspect of the surroundings and life of the characters.
The soundtrack is very well incorporated into the film which makes this movie a nice package of pictures and sounds, beautifully wrapped with small referrals to other movies.
Throughout the 23 min. you experience a nice obscure ride of emotions, all coming together with a great ending, that leaves you speechless.
