Season 2....
I loved loved LOVED season one, even if I had to watch some scenes with hands in front of my eyes.
The brilliance is behind the plot... I have no idea where it's all going. When I think I have something, even a piece of it, figured out it then goes completely the other way annoying but intriguing and I NEED ANSWERS!!
Season 2... two episodes released so far... I can see it being another brilliant season however, this season so far, there are so many characters making stupid decisions to the point they are downright annoying. I actually hope someone locks Julie outside at night because she's really stupid this season. Every time someone tells her to do something she does the opposite and puts everyone at risk like... feed her to the monsters already! It's not just her... the sheriff, Fatima, most of the newbies, Tabitha, are all frustrating me to no end because it's like they're purposely doing the opposite of everything they should be doing, like they're cliche characters in a bad horror movie. Let's hope the rest of the season they all get their common sense back.
That '90s Show (2023)
Kitty & Red are IT
This is one of the better reboots of late, it's actually enjoyable if you watch as it's own show or as a That 70s show spin off. The secret to it faring betters than others is it's sticking close to the original source. It's also staying faithful to the 90s time period, not trying to reinvent with woke themes, i am insanely thankful for that!
However, the biggest negative is the kids, the characters are so over the top that it feels unnatural, where as the original cast in the 70s show were so flawlessly flawed that they blended perfectly together in group scenes. Between this and the Gossip Girl reboot I'm adamant that Gen Z actors can't portray roles based on an original millennial cast. Generational differences maybe? Not sure. All I know is in That 90s Show the most enjoyable scenes are with the adults, and not just Red & Kitty who are AMAZING, but even the newer adult characters.
I will keep watching though even if solely for the cameo appearances & any Red and Kitty scenes.
Stay Close (2021)
Hook. Line. Sinker.
I binged the entire season in one go, as I knew I would because I did the same with The Stranger and Safe.
Am I the only one who thought the creepy couple duo were like a real life psycho version of Team Rocket from Pokémon?! I couldn't unsee it once I made the connection! They even dance haha
Plenty of edge of your seat moments, scenes were I had my eyes covered, and plenty of times where I thought I knew where the story was going and suddenly a huge curveball. If you like your shows like that GO FOR IT. Episode 1 is a slow burner but persevere it's worth it.
The Lost Symbol (2021)
Other reviewers must be getting confused...
I have read/own The Lost Symbol book, and am a massive fan of the movies. Before starting the show last night I came on IMDB and read the reviews so I went in with low expectations, as the reviews made it seem so bad, like I was in for mass disappointment. Reviewers posting "it doesn't have same momentum" "he doesn't do it as well as Tom Hanks" "It's so woke" etc
After bingeing three episodes (only because I had to force myself to go to bed or I would've kept going) I can honestly say that I am BAFFLED by the bad reviews... and that's coming from someone who knows how the series ends!
There is plenty of drama. So many nail biting, edge of your seat moments (the enclosing wall scene!!). Plenty of suspense. It has the same "treasure hunt" vibe of the books and movies. People need to understand tv shows never completely follow the books, and why would you want it to? Knowing what to expect at every turn? How boring! One thing the show did better than the book was make Katherine more likeable, in the book she comes across as arrogant and very flat.
I like this younger Langdon version, and I like Tom Hank's version. They are different versions and you can like them both. The brilliant thing about tv shows over movies is less time restrictions so you get more character development... the hints to his childhood were a nice touch, and I suspect that's leading somewhere in future episodes.
People need to also understand that the book was written in 2009 and is being adapted for 2021 tv audience... it was never going to be exactly the same! The modern day audience lives for shock value, special effects, fast paced drama, etc. So yes there are some tweaks to the book's storyline but overall it's the same story.
For reference, I detest blatant wokeness for the sake of it, this has NONE. So whoever put that in their below review needs their eyes/ears checked.
One of Us Is Lying (2021)
Almost...
If you didn't tell me the name of this show and had shown me the first episode id swear you were showing me a gossip girl reboot. Online account exposing teens and their secrets? Sounds kind of familiar....
To be fair this show isn't "bad" but it isn't "really good" either, it's good only okay. It's not awful, and it has its moments that draw you in, but then a lot of moments that make you roll your eyes. The main thing that prevents this show from being really good is the lack of character development. You don't really get to know each character down to the core so you don't really care enough about them. And what you do know about them is purely superficial.
