The Dead Files: Death Sentence (2012)
So disappointing
Bear with me. The last time I left a review for anything was in 2006. That's how little I care about reviewing things. But I just have to for this. I wanted so badly to believe this was show was real. I've seen and felt things in my own life, and seeing some of it validated on this show has been entertaining.
However. In this episode the main woman involved in the process was an actress, as she herself stated. Not a terrible problem, but the whole episode felt so contrived that it seemed they were putting her skills to good use. I just could not buy that she would be so stupid as to actually steal a hat from the prison when she was shooting a movie there. First of all, why was there a hat? The film crew would have cleared away any debris for their filming had anything been left behind when the prison closed (which I highly doubt). Seems to me the place would be cleared of everything. Secondly, that item would have been property of the prison, had it actually have been there, so she is admittedly guilty of theft. Thirdly, the crew would have to have taken inventory of any debris before shooting and see that all was placed back when they were done. They had no problem with the hat being missing I guess.
Later on in the episode they go to the woman's house to investigate. Well lo and behold! Evil spirits abound! It's because she stole the hat! And not only that, assuming the spooky activity that she felt at home was due to the hat, she burned the hat in her fireplace! Again, I'm sorry, but that just sounds like a storyline straight out of a movie. Normal people would throw it out, or if she was really scared (and actually took the hat) I think she'd take it to the town dump and dispose of it (if not return it to the scene of the crime- the prison). And OF COURSE later on we learn that because she burned the hat it made the dark spirits more powerful in her home. Unbelievable.
In addition to the ridiculousness that was the hat, we also see that there is a very dark demon of sorts: Satan, if you can believe it, living in the basement. Yes. Satan himself lives in Santa Fe, NM.
I'd like to believe in all of this the experiences of the prison guards at least, but again, I cannot. The one describes walking with three inmates to get linens when they all spotted a dark shadow. The guard described seeing it with his flashlight and- hold it. You had your flashlight with the inmates to go get linens?? Why weren't the lights on? This place was supposedly extremely dangerous, why would you take a chance and not do something so simple (and normal) as turn on the lights??
I was enjoying this show up until this point. In previous episodes you could see where edits were made, and you could assume her "walk throughs" were re-enactments, but the reveals were always a fun payoff. But this episode ruined it for me. They CLEARLY wrote a script for one giant perfect storm knowing this prison was a scary place. I wish producers would allow reality tv to be just that- reality. Enough of this fake stuff. If I wanted that I'd just watch one of the plethora of supernatural movies out there. It's a real shame.
PS Bless you if you read this whole thing.
High School Musical (2006)
Sheer Delight!
i am the biggest musical fan EVER! i know not only the big time musicals such as "singin in the rain", "wicked", "the sound of music", and "grease", but i also enjoy smaller ones like "summerstock", "meet me in st. Louis", and "in the good old summertime". i just wanted to let everyone know that i am qualified to make a judgment.
i think "high school musical" is absolutely wonderful. i have starred in and seen hundreds of musicals over the years. though the plot is very silly, the characters and the songs add something new to an otherwise cliché storyline. so many people have put down the singing and the acting. i think it was perfect! people especially get on Zach efron's case of being dubbed. do you know how many people have been dubbed over the years? let's see, shall we? some of debbie Reynolds's singin in "singin in the rain", Audrey hepburn in "my fair lady", leslie caron in "gigi", mark lester in "oliver!", and thousands more! people are just using the "dub" factor as a lame excuse to not like this fantastic film.
some people have also complained that no one would get up and sing in the cafeteria. HELLO! that's what a musical is! a musical is a movie where the actors get up and sing in random places and miraculously know all of the lyrics! that should not be used as a criticism of HSM; it goes for ALL musicals!
also, i've read that people complain that basketball players, shaq for instance, cannot sing. Hey, this is discrimination! in my high school musicals, we had one of the captains of the varsity football team star in our musicals and in the school chorus, as well as a varsity track runner, varsity soccer player, and three varsity baseball players! and yes, they were all guys! unbelievable isn't it, how people can be good at more than one thing! i know, i'm shocked as well!
i recommend everyone see this movie. not for the plot, but for the array of young talent that is displayed in one of Disney channel's greatest originals! see it thoroughly before you make any judgment, and if you still don't like it, you either have something wrong with you, or you talked through the whole thing and did not pay any attention.
it's fabulous! i would give it more than 10 stars, but alas, there is not enough room for an infinite amount.
Sleeping Beauty (1959)
Disney's Greatest Film
This is my absolute favorite Disney movie ever! As a little girl, I would watch this captivating love story time and again, and I still watch it, and I love every moment.
This movie has everything a Disney story should have; comedy, drama, love, hate, good, evil, and most importantly--music! Disney writers today do not write their own music (they use pop music that stinks) and also, though the movies are directed at a young audience, the jokes and puns in the movies are often only understood by adults, and they go straight over the children's heads.
Anyway, i love the songs in this film. I love Tchaikovsky, and the lyrics that the Disney writers accompanied along with them is just spectacular! The art is very unique, in that the aimators imitated Medieval artwork. No other Disney production used that technique. I also think Prince Philip is the most handsome Disney male and Aurora is the most beautiful Disney female.
This is the quintessential Disney movie. A 10. Superb. The Best.
Blood Son (2006)
Horrible yet fascinating!
This is a horrible movie, yet there is something very intriguing about it. The acting is not exactly top notch, but I enjoyed it very much. I was wondering why the students names were not listed on this website, however. I thought they were a very interesting element. Their acting was wonderful, in that they all had facial reactions and expressions to Jules' essay. I think some of these students will go on to great things--in particular the lovely blonde towards the back of the room. Her expression was phenomenal! I think one day she will win an Academy Award!
All in all, this film lacked much of an interesting plot. I felt though that the acting was hysterical! From the beginning where Jules bit his mother to the end with Jules' reaction to seeing his saviour (Dracula), I could not stop laughing! There was something very interesting about the film though. I may be out of my mind, but I give this film...a 10.
Pride & Prejudice (2005)
Terrible!
What were they thinking? this is the worst version of the Classic Jane Austen novel ever! I love Jane Austen and so does my mother. We were excited to see how well they portrayed the story of the five Bennet sisters. WHat a disappointment! Really! We couldn't stop laughing at the horrible acting and the goofy characters. The costumes were terrible, the people chosen were terrible! Not only that, but we were bored out of our minds during the whole film! It was the biggest waste of 10 bucks, not to mention the two hours of my life that I will never ever get back! Jane Austen would consider this a slap in the face. I also didn't think that Kiera Knightly's acting couldn't get any worse from Pirates. but guess what? I was wrong! I'll admit it--I was very wrong. She hit the bottom of the barrel with this movie.
The truly great version of this novel is the 1995 BBC mini-series starring Colin Firth. The characters are superbly played and the scenery is just beautiful. This version is so perfect, I give it a 20! Shame on everyone who enjoyed the 2005 version! Shame on you all!
