Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: Offbeat Steps Under the Moonlight (2021)
One of the most epic finale of anime
This is the moment Luffy found the one piece, the deiamon tamers returned to their world and Eren reached his father's basement, I want to congratulate Subaru for this episode, he surely deserved the kind of treatment after everything, now we will suffer from waiting for more seasons. Thanks for everyone who was reading my reviews for the past 7 weeks or so, BTW this is the twelveth half-hour episode, so we literally had more than 6 extra episodes over the 25 this seasons, White fox goated!
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: Choose me (2021)
Please IMDb, allow the score go for higher than 10 stars!
This episode.. if I were told that I would cry as much as I did an hour earlier, I would have never believed it, ironically everyone was hyping the content adapted into this episode as the best chapter of Re:Zero ever, or the chapter that made them consider Re:Zero to be their favorite novel, or something like that, so, even though I always lower my expectations before consuming any piece of media, I couldn't help but rise my expectations, but my god was it surpassed dozens of times. If this episode was 10/10 then all the previous episodes are less, if the other episodes were also 10/10 then this gem is 13/10, I will keep rewatching this
... episode, and edit this review later when I gather my thoughts. As for now, this is EASILY my new favorite episode.
Edit: Nvm I think I won't edit it.. Wai-
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: OVA: Bond of Ice (2019)
Nice, I suppose
It's actually a nice change of pace to see a protagonist other than Subaru for an episode, this OVA or movie gives more depth to Emilia's character, and I found a very interesting foreshoadowing some people might miss, at the beginning of the episode we see some script written in another language while someone is talking, the interesting thing is that the voice actress is the same one voicing Echidna in season 2, and the same script appeared in the episode titled "The value of life" while Echidna was talking, I think this gives us an idea about the identity of the one who sent Puck to rescue Emilia. The art and the colors were top tier even tho I wasn't a fan of the action sequence, the fight was Ok I guess. Overall: If you love Re:Zero then you love it probably.
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (2016)
I found this review on a different site
Note: It doesn't belong to me.
"It's a story well thought out and at every corner, there's a new mystery that drags you in. One thing that I really like is that it's hard to predict what's going to happen, there are so many twists and turns in Re:Zero.
Just as previous seasons, the art is on point and is in my opinion some of the best we have ever seen. Everything from the world itself to the characters and everything in between.
VAs are extremely talented and passionate, this is really one of the most impressive parts of the anime.
I enjoy every second of each episode, there's always something going on that keeps you on edge, jumping from sheer joy or just crying.
the characters are all real, they won't worship the protagonist when he's being selfish and naïve and disrespectful and rude (as most anime side characters do, in one way or another, directly or indirectly), they scold him when he misses and tell him his size, they don't just say: "It's Ok to be dumb and rude with higher people, as long as you unlock your secret powers and beat the bad guys". The protagonist learns a lesson from each incident he faces and grows.
Re:Zero isn't the type of story that reveals all of it's cards from the beginning, it has a lot of major mysteries that will be answered later at the end of the journey, while dealing with minor ones throughout the trip, but even with this high amount of mysteries, the story doesn't solely rely on discovering these mysteries to keep you interested, both the journey and the unknown for now goal are extremely interesting, engaging and entertaining. And you will never feel bored.
The story has a lot of hints and small details that foreshadow future events that you might not see until the ending or near it, which shows you how coherent the story is, and that the author isn't milking the story with new ideas out of nowhere just to extend it, but actually planned most of it perhaps before even beginning to write it.
Also, it doesn't rely at all on fanservice to get attention (Unlike most of the fantasy stories); the fanservice is 100% absent, there aren't any nudity scenes or Ped_ph_lia jokes (Unlike most of the Japanese fantasy stories), the female characters are all well-written and they aren't just some cheap fanservice material, the male characters aren't a bunch of degenerate pervs who can't control their desire to throw some heavy s_x jokes (or worse) every five mins (Which is usually used as a plot device from the typical fantasy writers just to bring the reader back to the wish-fulfillment escapism and nudity).
The gore is usually censored and not that detailed, and in the first place, Re:Zero is a light novel, which means it doesn't have that many illustrations, and no one reads the light novel just to say: "OMG! I can't wait to see that gory chapter in the anime form"; because it's not confirmed to have a sequel; so you can't say that people read/watch Re:Zero for the blood and the gore or the shock factor; because it's just a description using words. If not, then the light novel won't sell as much as it does, and the fans will only wait for the anime.
One of the main criticisms about Re:Zero, is that it's not an original idea or a story with an original premise; since it's not the first Isekai (being transported to another world) story, and if it had a time-travel twist, then it's not the first time travel story, and we won't even know if it's a time travel story until probably the finale, if it had gore then it's not the first to be gory, and so on. And I can't argue with facts; the web novel of Re:Zero started at the beginning of 2012, and there was enough material for three seasons and a half before the anime aired. Understood?
( ANIME SPOILER ALERT)
Three seasons and a half before the anime; so don't make silly jokes like: "The author cut Rem out of the show just to force Emilia X Subaru", or that "The author saw after the anime that Rem became popular but he prefers Emilia so he tried to shift the spotlight from Rem to Emilia", etc. The webnovel had already established Rem's disappearance, along with the whole plot for multiple seasons ahead before Rem became popular due to the anime. Some people really believe in this, skim the 1-point reviews in this section.
But I think that the realism of the story is paying off for the non-original premise, both the dialogues and the interactions between the characters are one of the closest in anime, to our real life, they don't use some characters as a plot device to explain how amazing is the author, and explain the whole plot of an arc using the mouth of one of the characters, which definitely takes the viewers out of the story to remember that it's just a story written by an author who tries to impress the readers/viewers by how amazing they arranged their story behind the scenes.
Unlike that, in Re:Zero, the story doesn't even try to impress you by what's going on behind the scenes; it both drops the questions and answers them casually and make very interesting parallels between multiple events and characters. That casual attitude is the reason why a lot of the consumers who don't pay close attention, might underestimate it's depth.
But that casual attitude is one of the highlights and the advantages that separate Re:Zero from any other story in the eyes of the people who realize it; because it's closer to our real life that we don't get an answer without searching for it, and paying very close attention (rather than being explicitly shown to our screens as a flashback or an info card), also because I feel like this attitude flexes on the other stories that just try to impress the consumer.
Unlike the majority of the brilliant stories that are usually cursed to be relatively very short, Re:zero will be a very long series, so far the anime has covered less than the third of the overall story; the author has stated that the story will consist of 11 arcs total, and season 2 is the fourth one only; so please restrain from accusing one of the seasons to have unsolved mysteries; because the finale is nowhere near where the anime is right now, and everything either already got explained or eventually will. Approximately, if fully animated, Re:Zero can reach around 200 Eps from the main storyline alone, and it gets better every arc (I have no reason to lie).
Not to mention that the author wrote multiple timelines called the (IF routes) named after the deadly sins, (Pride IF, Greed IF, Wrath IF, etc.) that explore what happens to the main cast if a certain incident was handheld in a different way from the main path.
(If stories synopsis)
i.g: (Sloth IF), it's the longest IF story, it explores what would happen if Rem agreed to run away with Subaru in (EP18) and travel to (Kararagi) rather than rejecting him as in the main route, probably can be adapted in a 12eps series, (Pride IF): explores what will happen if Subaru joined the witch's cult as the sin archbishop of pride rather than joining the Emilia faction. Aside from the IF stories, there are tons of side stories and 4 EX volumes that can be adapted into OVA's or movies or specials.
However, unlike the majority of the long and the very long stories, the more the story progresses, the more the significance Re:Zero's beginning holds, which is a common feature, only the short masterpieces share. The story doesn't have to end with a time-travel twist to remind you how important the beginning is; let me explain:
We know that Subaru, the main character, has the power of returning by death, but what's exactly return by death is? In mins (21:29) of (EP38) Roswaal refers to it as an "Authority", and we know that the authorities resemble the (9) deadly sins, so what authority does RBD resemble? It's implied in (EP34) that it has a connection with Envy. And from where did Subaru get it? In (EP25) the holder of the Sloth witch factor (Peteleguese) died, and in (EP41) Subaru could use the authority of Sloth (the unseen hand), and in the very first episode, both Emilia and Subaru died in the loot house, and in the same episode he started to use return by death. So, could it be that just like how Subaru absorbed the sloth witch factor after the death of Petelguese, he also absorbed the envy witch factor from Emilia's dead body in (EP1)? If that so, then could it be that Emilia had the Envy witch factor without knowing about it's existence; because she never died? Or was she returning by death the entire time before she met Subaru and he took it from her? Well, maybe. But the point is that the beginning's importance increased as the story progressed: i.g after (EP41) and it will keep increasing in the future seasons.
This is what separates Re:Zero from the "mediocre" or just "excellent" stories, it's one of the few series that forces you to use your brain and theorize, otherwise you will feel lost, not a lot of series can do this without looking like it's events were forced, or arranged by an author. And if it was just an "excellent" story, or just a "very good" long story, then the deeper we dive into the story, the less significant the beginning becomes, unlike in Re:Zero; thus even though the story isn't finished yet, you can't blame the people who consider Re:Zero a candidate to become a masterpiece once it proves itself when it finishes.
And that's why I usually recommend people to rewatch Re:Zero and they usually change their minds after it finishes."
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: Love Me Down to My Blood and Guts (2021)
The best episode animation-wise, Let's hope that the third trial is a sign of a third season
Edit (3): Why the toxicity? At the time I'm writing this, over 40 people gave this episode 1 star. Like.. seriously? How in the world is this episode less than a 9 at least? Even if you have a different favorite show, can't you appreciate the effort made by the studio? This was the ninth half-hour episode and it was full of top-notch voice acting with pure passion, well-drawn faces, and masterfully crafted background, smoothly-animated action scenes, and excellently well-composed music tracks chosen by a talented director to fit more than perfectly with each scene. It's really pitiable to give a different show 1 star just to decrease the score, I really feel sorry for you... (why?) you ask? Because the fans who thought this episode deserved 9 stars or 8 stars will change it into 10 to balance the 1's, so you're technically increasing the score and the accuracy; since the number of raters will increase for all episodes, keep spamming your 1's, little kid, that just makes us more confident in this episode.
This episode had such a good animation, even though Re:Zero doesn't rely at all on the fights and the action, and even though I didn't expect a stunning animation because we already have 30-mins long episodes, yet Whitefox Delivered both quality and quantity, as usual, the fight was so stunning and unexpected that I couldn't help but cover my mouth as it was opened for some reason. And the music was killing it during the fight! But we shouldn't forget the third trial of Emilia; it was so heart-shattering to see the characters that we know, being put into circumstances that force them into saying these kinds of words, and I see a lot of red flags surrounding the "happy ending" of the story, I guess all we can do is crying when these future visions come true (as always). And oh my god do I need that insert song at the end of the episode! It's so good, This series is indeed a masterpiece, I never enjoyed talking about a series as much as this, and I hope we're all sharing the same feeling. Also this time not gonna forget to mention that this is the 9th 30-mins episode, I'm not even joking, look it up yourself!!!
Edit (1): Ayooo!! Re:zero was trending or smth because of this episode!! Let's goooo
Edit (2): After rewatching the episode for more than three times, I guess this is the greatest Re:Zero episode (so far).
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: Happiness Reflected on the Water's Surface (2021)
Does anyone still call the character "Shallow"?
I think this episode made it clear (Even though it was already) that Re:Zero isn't "About Subaru"; to be frank with you, I couldn't care less about Emilia or her family if it weren't for her second trial; not only was it wholesome and heartwarming (Yet heart-breaking and sad), but also showed how much Emilia has changed because of Puck, Subaru, the first trial and Ram; because if she was the season 1 Emilia, then she would've easily dismissed the reality or even forget it; just to be in that fake dream, but as we saw, she rejected that sweet dream and chose to face the bitter reality.
Another thing some people might miss, is that Emilia never saw her face in the mirror after contracting with Puck, he was always the one to take care of her appearance and outfit, thus, she couldn't help but feel insecure whenever someone insults her appearance or connect her to the witch, but at the end of the trial, she finally saw her face properly in the reflection on the water, and that she's not a witch or a devil or a filthy creature. So Don't expect her to subject to other's racism anymore (Unlike her attitude in EP 13)
Also, the second trial made the death of Fortuna and Guese more tragic and gave more weight to Petelguese's character; back in season 1, some people accused the villains to be one-dimensional and evil just to be evil, rather than having character development, respectable motivations, a backstory or any weight.
If you noticed this pattern, then please restrain from judging the characters' depending on the screentime they had before their "Death"; because these (Post-"Death" characterization) occasions, apparently will keep reoccurring as the story progresses.
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: Reunion of Roars (2021)
Well-written female characters
I liked the interaction between Ram and Emilia, there's a very interesting parallel between this friendship and Otto and Subaru's relationship, finally, Emilia is having her portion of character development and Ram is becoming more likable. Basically, Subaru is Emilia's Rem, and Ram is her Otto.. wait wha-
it seems like this is the final dialogue-heavy episode and from now on we will get some battles. But of course, the biggest shock for me was playing the opening! I feel happy for the singer; Be honest, you didn't think that they will play it again.
Edit: Forgot to mention that it's the seventh 30mins episode, it's confirmed, Whitefox is my favorite studio ever!!
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: The Beginning of the Sanctuary and the Beginning of the End (2021)
This studio has unlimited budget
This is the fifth 30mins episode in row (and the sixth overall), seriously this is the best thing that the anime industry ever had in the past decade;
this season is supposed to be 25 episodes, but i think that the amount of content we're getting equals 36 episodes which means 3 courses season, All hail studio Whitefox.
i guess that this episode won't hold that significance until a few seasons later, which shows that the creator of this story planned a lot of these stuff perhaps before even starting to write it.
also the visuals are incredible in this episode, usually, when an anime is near the ending, the studios start to cut the corners and reduce the quality or run out of budget, but not here;
the visuals were gorgeous in the ending song as well. 10/10 for me, more studios should learn to make long episodes.
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: The Permafrost of Elior Forest (2021)
This episode makes the previous ones look boring
I think this is the best Re:Zero episode so far, for me.
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: The Day Alpha Orionis Smiled (2021)
Another banger episode
I guess we should just get used to Re:Zero outdoing itself every week with openingless time extended episodes. Thank you whitefox absolutely 10/10
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: A Journey Through Memories (2021)
Coherent
This episode shows to you that the author knows what he's doing.
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: Jishou Kishi Natsuki Subaru (2016)
The defining episode of the anime
If it weren't for this episode, i wouldn't know that i'm watching something special, the make it or break it episode for a lot. Also, the most interesting one from the first season for a lot, BUT IT'S STILL SOOO PAINFUL TO REWATCH IT!!
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: The Sounds That Make You Want to Cry (2020)
Everything comes togather perfectly
All the events of the first season seemed random to me and pretty strange, like the disappearence of Roswal the attack of the mabeasts. but now it all make sense, he was the master mind all along,.. What a reveal.
