Genuine and heartfelt

How often do we get to watch a movie and laugh in one minute, cry in the other? When emotions run so deep that we smile through our tears and tear up when laughing at a joke... This is what this movie did to me. Kudos to the cast for a brilliant performance, each in their own role, and to the director to provide a wonderful audio-visual background to the beauty that lies in the friendships of these four young men.

After seeing it, we ask ourselves: would we be able to do what Davy did? Could we be this strong and brave? Maybe if we love someone that much. Maybe.

Another question is: how would we deal with a serious illness? How CAN we? The alternative is wait until it vanquishes us and steals everything from us that we used to be, that used to make us what we are, or... or take the upper hand and go out screaming. Choose how we want to end it. Choose to miss many important events and great moments... because we want to feel capable... just once again. James poses this question and we are left wondering up until the end which alternative he chooses.

I strongly, highly recommend this film to everyone who loves genuine human emotions portrayed without sentimentalism, who thinks that friendship is not over-rated and that there can be times when friends are all that's left to rely on. Because in friendship, we have a choice.

The Vampire Diaries (2009–2017)

Great vampire show

I watched the pilot today and I have to say it was impressive. It has a good plot line, great characters, and a lovely soundtrack that I'll start hunting after posting this, LOL. What we know so far is that Elena lost her parents and is raised with her younger brother Jeremy by their aunt. At school, she meets tall dark handsome stranger, Stephen Salvator who turns out to get her, and also, to be a vampire... By the end of the pilot we find out that he had returned to Mystic Falls to look for his lost love, Katherine (spitting image of Elena, by the way). Also, after a series of "animal-caused" murders happen, we see another tall dark even more handsome stranger, who, surprise, is Stephen's older brother. And a vampire. Who, contrary to Stephen, is not ready to give up his blood-sucking habits. Basically, we have a basic conflict between two brothers, good and evil... add the familiar conflict between human (Elena) and struggling vampire (Stephen), and you get a really nice, angsty, dramatic, romantic teen-vampire show. Ian Sommerhalder is absolutely lethal in the role of Damon, the evil vamp-brother. Paul Wesley delivers nicely, too, and Nina Dobrev is pure enough to taunt any vampire, good or otherwise. I'm giving this show ten stars out of ten. I really hope it will live longer than "Moonlight"...
