I'm not a fan of the Shark-Tank-like prank pitch setup. It feels like a painful American idol where they just make people feel bad for lame ideas. Then the setup watching the pranks in front of a live audience feels off. Without Jonny Knoxville or Eric Andre this show would be a pass for me. It doesn't seem to be either of their styles. Or at least a very watered down version.

I liked the little bit of pranks slipped in on the people pitching a joke before they pitch. It feels more organic and not so structured. It's not a 1 star terrible. . . Might be moderately entertaining for some, so 4/10.

Vesper (2022)

Imaginative and fresh
5 August 2023
I always want to get into sci-fi and horror more. But often the plots are too predictable or don't convince me of the world/setting. Vesper did though! I liked the biology spin. While people are presently at work doing genetic research, a future where genetic alterations are commonplace is definitely believable. I appreciated the weird plants and the fresh ideas on what computers and tech look like.

Some low star reviews I read complained of the slow pace. If you want action (and no plot) go watch Transformers. Some complained of Vesper's age. The kid is a fighter and she's smart, I don't get why that's hard to believe for some. In Hunger Games, Katniss is 16. She fought to survive.

Idk I think some people just have too high of expectations for what they think a movie should be. For me this movie was perfectly entertaining. Without expectations for what I think it should be, I enjoy it as it is.

Solid story build-up, hollow ending
24 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed the first two thirds of this movie. The initial scenes introduce you to the main character-a single father. They make you feel for his struggles raising two kids without his wife who had passed away. Mixed with this it unveils his archeology career. This is where I got hooked and very curious to see how it plays out.

After his friend finds a rare item, they later begin a hike + quest to find artifacts and evidence to prove his theories of ancient Vikings correct. The story is building well here and there's excellent visual scenes.

_____(spoilers below)_____ Once the guide turned on them is where it went south for me. That was annoying. I feel like the dude who hired him would have vetted his guide choice better and picked someone he could trust? Not some grumpy dude who doesn't know a thing about archeology. I would have liked to see them sneak an artifact or two into their pockets or something when the guide stole the loot. I let the guide dying go even though it was too predictable. Him losing the stolen artifacts was annoying.

Also do none of them know what a camera is?! Collect as many forms of evidence as possible.

It later turned into just a monster chase after that. The giant snake chasing them and the characters surviving against all odds, entertaining sure. Elisabeth was a resourceful, rock-climbing badass. But the plot quickly moved from historical Vikings to running from a big snake.

Near the end the father says to his daughter that what he thought was a map to treasure was a warning of a place not to visit. Conclusion enough? I didn't think so! Like at least have him burn/toss the journal to signify he's done with his several years long investigation. Or burying any evidence they found. Something! I also really wanted to know what would happen with him and the museum. What new realizations did he have after learning a giant creature exists? Are he and Elisabeth going to date? Just having them survive the giant snake leaves so many unanswered questions!

Overall worth watching, thus 6 stars. I just wish the ending drew more conclusions. Kind of a bummer to build a plot like that and hardly wrap it up.

Good twists, worth the watch but didn't like ending
25 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm no film expert so personally I'm not here to critique color, sound, acting etc. For me all that was captivating enough that I watched the whole series and enjoyed it. I think it's worth the watch. Good plot twists as the story unfolds.

My beef is with the ending. Spoiler: as the main character Dan saves Melody, he's left behind. I am bothered by it because it didn't give substance for choosing the story to end that way. If he had say jumped in front of the demon to save her. Or if staying behind was somehow redemption for his father's connection to Melody. Something to give purpose. Idk maybe they are planning a season 2. But if they aren't then the hero is punished for no reason other than to end a way you don't expect. I would have been fine with him returning with her even though that's the predictable ending.

Don't over think it
12 November 2021
People who review movies crack me up. Some reviewers are saying this is so bad because it's historically inaccurate. I personally never got the impression it was a history flick. 😅 Don't over think it. Just enjoy it for what it is. Stop expecting everything to be an action packed Marvel movie.

I enjoyed seeing the protagonist D'Leh seek to find his worth during his journey. In the beginning he felt he didn't honorably kill the mammoth. Later he reclaims his honor through certain battles and leadership. He feels unworthy at parts, but rises to the occasion.

Boring plot, annoying dialogue
23 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
You don't have to go in-depth with science to make a good sci-fi, but they could have at least tried a little...

-The company couldn't build a fireproof suit to send him in? Built him a little pod? Give him a parachute?? Highly unlikely two people survive falling from the sky without something at least!

-There were no botanists alive in 2067? They couldn't make some green houses and grow plants?

-Why didn't his handheld device show the whole damn city when it said it found a structure?

The first hour was so slow and boring I nearly turned it off. Not enough details in the plot to make me invested in the characters. Once Ethan time travels, he's just a whiny baby. Give him a mission or something. Make us think he's looking for blueprints, a vile, SOMETHING. Instead he has absolutely zero wilderness survival skills and no goal when he got there. Just walks around super slow overthinking everything. Once his friend gets there and they start the 4 hour timer, they spend half of it crying and walking so damn slow?? It just drove me crazy sorry. I couldn't enjoy the move.

I would have rated a 1 but at least the ending made it not complete garbage, but overall it was still dumb I thought. Had lots of potential but was ultimately a let down.
