Level (2021)
Compelling and Provocative
I've been researching flat earth for close to 4 years, and I found this documentary enjoyable and well-done! While other documentaries in the works will focus on more evidence-based information, this documentary certainly has its share of that as well. It also challenges mainstream cosmology head-on by urging a debate with a famous "scientist" ... we know it will never happen though.. because he would lose!
The Last Kiss (2006)
Good? Bad? How about... Inconsistent?!
I don't know if I liked this movie or not! Some parts were amazingly REAL and the acting was, for the most part, really spot-on! However, other parts in the movie are too extreme or not believable. For example, in one scene between Michael and Jenna, when she is telling him to get out of the house (and I don't blame her!), she breaks out a freakin' butcher knife and shakes it at him pretty convincingly. Now, I don't know about you, but if I did that, no matter WHAT the circumstances, I'd never be able to live that one down... (and not to mention the legal consequences of such if ever charges were pressed.) And the Kim character is ridiculous. I do believe Rachel Bilson plays the character as written, but she's not written well. I mean, let's face it, Zach Braff is cute, but he's really only cute because of his mannerisms and self-deprecating nature... if you saw him on the street, you're not gonna lust after him. But a hot young college cutie out-of-the-blue taking every step known to all stalkers in order to bag Braff's character Michael? She came on so immediately strong that, at first, I thought she was hired by Jenna to "test" her man's commitment to her! Seriously! And then, knowing he has a girlfriend, still calls him late at night just to come over and "talk." Now, COME ON. Even college girl stalker-types understand the definition of discreet?? Right? Maybe I'm just too old.
And finally, I can dig a good love/sex scene, but the only steamy sex scene in this film is the one where Michael is cheating on his PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND with Kim! I was disgusted by this scene and turned my head away. I've been a neglected pregnant girlfriend before, and I don't care HOW hot Rachel Bilson's backside is, I feel that scene was rude and thoughtless to be the scene to turn people on... there should have AT LEAST been another sex scene to equal it... and one between characters who actually CARED about each other! Why does "hot" always have to mean "cheap?!" Makes no sense to me...
Otherwise, this movie was GREAT.. I truly did enjoy watching it. It was just completely inconsistent. One minute, I was applauding the film; the next, I was rolling my eyes or turning my head... a very strange couple hours, indeed.

You Can't Do That on Television (1979)
"d'I Heaaard Thaaat!"
This show is so off the wall that it's right on target. I really MISS THIS SHOW! When I was a kid, a good dose of "You Can't Do That On Television" and then maybe a little "Out Of Control" could put me in a great mood and could also relieve my Mom of duty for a little while. :)
The silly execution sketches and the diner scenes alone make this show worthy of watching. But there's so much more. Nickelodeon's slime theme derived from the success of this show. But none of the kids nowadays will know this. Why can't they air some of the old good stuff on Nick anymore?... Hey, Nick needs to come up with a channel called "Nick - The First Generation" and then I'll actually purchase cable.

The Vicar of Dibley (1994)
Unique idea presented in perfect humor!!
I'm not a huge fan of too many of the BBC shows (Let's face it; Eastenders to me is a Valium chased with a beer.) but I've found a couple I really like.
"Are You Being Served?" is one TERRIFIC British Comedy. It is the first British show I fell in love with. I thought it would be the only...
But "The Vicar Of Dibley" is my more recent love. Dawn French plays her role as the Vicar quite believably, yet she manages magnificently to portray herself as human with so many of the quirks that most of us have and may or may not admit to having! Another character, Alice, is the complete airhead, and Emma Chambers plays this stereotypical character flawlessly. She never fails to crack me up. All of the characters have their comical signature character traits, and they mesh together quite well.
The plots to the episodes manage to keep one interested, and the setting of church and religion makes this comedy an unpredictable and even slightly shocking show!
This show should appeal to anyone with a semi-open mind and a compassion for great humor.
It's the best thing to happen to the BBC as of late.. at least considering all I've seen, which ain't much... so I should add disclaimer, as I've only seen the BBC shows they air on the only local PBS stations I can pick up in this hick town I live in! ;)
