The Passenger (2023)
Hidden Gem!
This little gem packs a powerful punch with realistic acting that evokes emotions that could only be felt in such a situation. The pacing and directing was perfect, and thanks to the multi-layered performances, I was never bored. Rough, rugged, and real, it reminded me of something from the 70s golden period of cinema. Like a small artsy film in which a young Al Pacino or Dustin Hoffman would have excelled in the role. Maybe we're seeing a start to a new golden age of cinema? Let's hope so. This film is pure art, and imo best of all, it does not attempt to appease or compromise to any politically correct criteria.
Run Hide Fight (2020)
Critics, you are now completely discredited!
Welp, critics have now lost ALL credibility. This movie is well worth watching, and easily 7.5/10, but since the critics tried to stop me from watching it, I gave it an 8!
Midsommar (2019)
An emotionally haunting trippy dark comedy dealing with grief and abandonment
If you're over 30, and were ever in a long relationship or two, this film will likely resonate with you. I have been on both sides, being the distant boyfriend as well as being emotionally destroyed by a girlfriend. So, I can relate to both sides of this amazing break up film, and it made the experience very personal on many levels.
Second, if you have ever had to endure a rough untimely death in the family, or been abandoned by your family in any way having trouble dealing, you will likely find catharsis in this movie.
Third, if you have ever enjoyed taking psychedelics, especially in the woods and/or at a festival, this film is must see for you.
Forth, if you can appreciate a movie that honors a Kubrickian style cinematography, as well as liking dark comedy, this movie will impress you thoroughly.
Lastly, if you like movies that stay with you for days or weeks, haunting your mind with thoughts, images, and emotions, Midsommar will do just that.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
This will be a cult classic
Remember, cult films don't do well at the box office. This film will get what it deserves as word of mouth places it in the ranks of greatness. It has "heart", and that is why the critics don't like it because they don't have hearts. ;-)
Ripley Under Ground (2005)
A hidden Ripley gem!
I highly recommend it. It kept me in suspense until the last second, beautifully done!!! Ripley was on fire in this movie, and definitely 100% heterosexual, hahaha. After over 10 years of thinking it'd seen all the Ripley movies, this week i got to see one more!! What a treat!!! :-D The movie is almost a dark comedy, and i love that about it, even though it still has many serious moments as well. Definitely watch this one before "Ripley's Game" as it ties in perfectly with how that movie begins. Wow, what a ride!!! :-D
The Poseidon Adventure (1972)
Not just a disaster movie as so many here are saying
This film has too MANY undercurrents of emotion, character, and lessons of life to be called a "disaster movie". For me, the disaster part came secondary to the characters and their development throughout. Each character's karma tokens are tracked, and each gets what they deserve, even Reverend Scott who gave his life, but only after being saved by Mrs. Rosen who could be considered the true hero. The long look Reverend Scott gives her after she saves him then dies in his arms speaks volumes. He knows he could very well have to give his life as well, and when the time comes he does so with a fury so inspiring that Mrs. Rosen would have been proud. There isn't any grown person here who hasn't yelled at God at one point in their lives, and Reverend Scott screaming at God to take him instead broke me down. I realized right there, that this is no ordinary "disaster" movie, and deserves to be called something else. Perhaps a psychological disaster movie? I dunno, but it's definitely in it's own genre altogether, and i haven't seen anything like it since. I'll always cherish this movie as a growing experience, and one that I always used to watch with my Grandma (who reminds me of Mrs Rosen). RIP Grandma!!! I love you!! :-D
Escape Room (2019)
Worth a gander
Don't listen to the people voting this movie down. It's got great suspense, surprise, and character development. Just watch it, and you'll see what i mean when your heart starts beating out of your chest.
