Superterranean (2020)
Off the beaten path
I believe the movie was captivating although I didn't understand the writers thrust for quit a while. But still i had to keep watching.
I first assumed he was a climber although people don't climb alone in such a desolate environment. There did not seem to be mountains nearby that required all the gear that he had with him. Mainly ricks and shrubs.
I kept feeling that the stranger that came to the bothy was the same actor playing two parts. And spent time wondering about who was under the beard and heaving clothing. The voice was quite different so i gave up trying to figure that out.
At one point towards tge end i thought he was the victim of a plane crash but then remembered his injury.
In the end I realized I was quite right about the few things i was guessing about.
I had a very hard time understanding the accents and just moved ahead by fast forwarding.
The filming was magnificent, the acting was excellent and the landscape perfectly illustrated the protagonist's state of mind. I can't imagine how long it took for one person to write, film, edit and promote this movie. Amazing. I gave it a nine. Not Hollywood stuff but pretty great idea.
Falling Skies (2011)
One of two favorites.
Aside from the Expanse this show was one of the best. It started in 2011 so the CGI isn't as great as the Expanse but the story is really good. After looking for it for quite awhile it suddenly showed up on Prime.
The story is much different from most SCI-FI. Much more involved and good character development. The videos we see on tv that have been made recently are cheaply made with unknown actors and bland story development. Most it appears are made during COVID. What a disappointment to someone who has been reading science fiction since I was 10 yrs old.
It's now 2023 and I'm enjoying again and I can binge it.
I really liked the actors especially Noah Wiley. All the rest of the actors are interesting.
I would recommend it to any science fiction video buff. Not that many are good let alone excellent.
Prey (2021)
Netflix should know better
I would say the only thing less stimulating would be searching Facebook for something interesting to read. For one thing the characters aren't at all compelling in fact they vary from mean and arrogant to pathetic.
The scheme is five uninteresting guys take their bachelor party to the mountains for a canoe trip. They decide to go for a hike and someone starts shooting at them. They spend a lot of time arguing with each other about how to handle the situation.
I can't comment on the acting because there isn't a lot of it. I would think it's not very scripted, probably just reactions to the scripted situations The scenery is 99% outdoors so there wasn't a lot of cash put into the background. All in all a very inexpensive production
I'm not going to plead for you not to watch it as others have. That would be silly and not my business. If you have something more interesting to do choose that.
