The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
One of Illuminations best and the best movie of 2023 so far
The Super Mario Bros movie is a great foray into the world of movies by a beloved franchise that guarantees to leave audiences in tears of laughter. This film brilliantly blends humour, action, and adventure that will delight fans of all ages.
Undoubtedly, one of the strongest aspects of the movie is its humor. The witty writing is delivered with perfect timing, making the jokes appropriate for both children and adults. Additionally, the movie features a particular cameo character who occasionally makes dark and peculiar remarks geared towards older audiences, which will have you crying with laughter
The animation in the movie is stunning, and the Illumination studio excels in bringing the iconic Super Mario characters to life. The voice cast is equally impressive, with each actor perfectly embodying their respective characters.
The movie's plot offers a refreshing twist on the traditional Super Mario storyline. Although it may not win any awards for its story, it serves its purpose just like the Mario games. Princess Peach is portrayed as a strong and capable character who can take care of herself, no longer the damsel in distress. Moreover, the inclusion of another franchise adds an extra level of excitement to the movie, providing a unique and unforgettable experience for fans of both franchises.
Overall, Super Mario Movie is a fantastic film that effortlessly blends humour, action, and adventure. The movie's humour alone is worth the price of admission, and the animation and voice acting are outstanding. Highly recommended for fans of the Super Mario franchise and anyone looking for a fun and entertaining movie experience. Non-fans will still have a blast watching it.
Strange World (2022)
Great world building
Disney's "Strange World" is a pretty good movie. I enjoyed the world that was created and the multiple twists at the end. While I can't speak to why others might dislike the film, I can say that it is definitely not a bad movie and is nowhere near Disney's worst. It's target audience, children will have a blast watching it.
As an older viewer, one thing I would have like to see is more development of some of the characters. While it was refreshing to see that the love interests took a back seat and there were no songs, I felt like some of the characters could have been fleshed out more. This would have added a deeper emotional impact at the end of the film.
